Just spent 2 nights. The price is right and the location great, but… the bed was terrible mattress so hard. Our shower curtain had lots of mildew! And no hot water in the sink. Otherwise, the rest of the room pretty clean. The person who checked us in was wonderful and helpful. If you go, have a meal at the Irish pub across the street!
We enjoyed our stay here. Staff members were very pleasant. The hotel has an older look, furnished very creatively. All of the rooms I saw had themes, and the ones we stayed in were elaborate and fun. Beds were comfortable, comfortable chairs. Some other reviews mentioned just a trickle of water from the sink - that was true in my room, but the shower pressure was good. My one complaint is the amenities: no ice machine and no coffee in the morning. There is a coffee shop next door, but they open at 8:30. There is enough coffee in the room to make 2 small cups. The coffee situation was bleak. Aside from that, very good.
We had to arrive later than anticipated due to a plane delay. The proprietor was very nice- told us how to access our key from the lockboxes outside and to not park in the parking garage as they close it Saturday night and don't open it until Monday morning. It was challenging to find street parking- we had to park 3 blocks away. Our room was large and clean. On the plus side, the Inn is right in the center of town so there is plenty of walkable restaurants and shops. We were there during Covid so there was not a lot of night life and hence, not much nightlife noise. On the negative side, the sink in our room barely had a trickle of water from either tap. Thankfully the shower had good water flow. There was no provided hair dryer.
I had an incredible stay at the Charles Inn - it was centrally located to downtown and had a wonderful cafe attached to it where I got coffee and a pastry in the morning before heading out for the day. I had been concerned about parking, but it was always easy to find street parking near by. I stayed in the Derry, ME room, which is a MUST book for any fan of Stephen King/IT. The decor was the cherry on top of an already great trip, and was a special layer that other hotels couldn't provide! The room itself was clean, comfortable, and perfect to return to after a long day of exploring. Sandy and Mike are incredible hosts - from booking to check in to check out, they made sure it was a wonderful and seamless experience and really took care of me as a guest. For anyone looking to stay in downtown Bangor, I highly recommend booking a room at the Charles Inn.…
This hotel has it's pluses and minuses. The drawbacks are that the hotel itself is old and a little run down. They have been working to improve it, but that takes time and money. Noise from the street can be loud, especially when there is live music outside. Parking can be difficult. On the plus side: the hotel has a lot of charm. Sandy and Mike were fantastic and upgraded our room. The bed is very comfortable, better than the cookie cutter chain hotels. The location is fantastic! You are right in downtown Bangor so when you step out of the hotel there are great restaurants and an amazing coffee shop right outside the door. You are also able to walk around downtown Bangor with ease (not that downtown Bangor is all that large).
