This has been a fascinating experience. This hotel is, as promoted, "truly unique." The hotel owner is lovely and has created an atmosphere you can sink into as soon as you enter the doors. The rooms have four poster beds, they are spacious suites appointed with antiques. We arrived mid-October and the lobby was festooned with Halloween decorations that made...

Should have forfeited price of one night stay after walking into lobby and seeing it so run down. It only got worse. Lobby, hallway and room carpeting badly stained, drapes were falling off rods, light bulbs burned out in lamp by reading chair. The room, when painted, had splatters everywhere - bathroom facets, light switch plates, etc. This did not...

If you look at their website, thoughts about quaint or charming might spring to mind. Once my wife and I arrived there, we unfortunately realized that the stage where this hotel was quaint or charming was way in the past. It is a hotel that has "gone to seed." Disheveled would be a good word for it. We had booked...

Got here at about midnight after twenty-four hours on a variety of planes and coaches. Actually finding the place confused us briefly because we walked in and thought we'd accidentally gone into the pub next door instead, but that's jet lag for you. Within ten minutes, we'd settled in and worked out how to turn up the air conditioning. Following...

We stayed two nights at the Charles Inn and were quite happy with the atmosphere, rooms and service. Keep in mind that this is independently owned and in an older building before booking. If you're looking for something standardized by the big chains this place wont be for you. The rooms feature older mahogany and wooden amenities which we felt...

I didn't sleep a wink. The bed was so hard and old that I struggled to find comfort. Literally woke up with a kink in my back. I do have to say though the lady working the front desk was very accommodating. As I forgot my charger and she loaned me her personal one.

This hotel needs a new owner and renovation. It could be restored to a grand old hotel as it's very charming and interesting inside. However, the owner seems to be drowning trying to keep it open. The beds, mattresses and furniture is quite old and in need of repair. It's dark and dingy. I stayed there a couple of times,...

I'll start with the good parts - the fixtures worked, the bathroom was clean, the linens were clean and we had no trouble getting a room. Oh and the TV worked. And so did the elevator. And we did have cereal and bagels for breakfast. The problems? It is an old, rundown, smelly fleabag of a hotel with furniture that...

My girlfriend have lived in Bangor, Me and now live in Texas and will shout from the highest mountain top that the Charles Inn is a very nice place to stay. When we have stayed there a couple times we did encounter a few problems but nothing that would warrant a very bad review. I for one have stayed at...

I have stayed in many hotels before but this one is the best one so far. The rates are very reasonable. Staying at the Charles Inn you are close to every thing in bangor. The staff are friendly and the building is unique. If you love art this is the place for you. I was surprised when I checked in,...
