There are spotless and spacious, one and two bedroom cottages with kitchenette. Be sure to make reservations at the restaurant on the property--The Watershed Tavern. This is a great place to stay--spring, summer or fall.

We spent one night at the Boothbay Resort because we were traveling with our dog and wanted a pet friendly place to stay. We stayed in Cedars #5 which was small but clean. The owners were ok with us leaving our dog in his crate so we could enjoy the brewery tour and dinner at the tavern. My husband loved the beer and our food was absolutely delicious. You must eat here! We liked that the resort was quiet and peaceful but just a few minutes drive to the harbor. We would definitely stay here again but would probably get a larger cottage for a longer stay. Bring your own toiletries. All that were provided were a couple of small bars of soap.

We spent three nights at Boothbay Resort with our toddler and my parents, and the Balsams cottage was comfortable, clean and met our need for some open space for our 18-month old to run around in. (Something a traditional hotel with single rooms would not have provided.) Unfortunately, I would not choose to stay here again because of the lack of phone and internet. First, the phone: We realized within about 5 minutes of our arrival that our cell phones had no service, but we needed to touch base with my parents, who were joining us later in the day. The cottage had no phone, so we walked up to the tavern where we checked in. I explained that we had just arrived and discovered the non-working cell phones, and asked if I could use a phone. To my utter amazement, I was directed down the street to the information center. I spent 20 minutes at said information center while the one attendant helped someone with hotel reservations, which gave me plenty of time to chase my poor kid around the place and reflect on the ridiculousness of the situation. I think for $200 a night (peak rate), someone could let me use the phone. I would have been happy to pay any charges associated with a call to a NH exchange. My thanks to the woman at the information booth for being kind enough to let me use her personal phone for a 30-second phone call. I don't want to vilify the entire place because of one customer service snafu, but the poor internet signal really sealed the deal for me. Of the devices in our cottage (a laptop, Kindle Fire, iPad and assorted phones), only the laptop could get a few minutes worth of internet service before cutting out, if you sat outside. For the rest of us, the connection dropped every 10-60 seconds. This made checking weather and researching attractions and restaurants difficult and frustrating. There was another building between our cottage and the tavern, so perhaps that was the reason for the poor signal, but if that's the case they need to move the wireless to a more accessible location.

For the money, I think phone and internet are not a lot to ask for, so we'll be checking out some of the other area accommodations next time we're in the area. If you don't need to be connected, then I think this is a quiet and comfortable spot with campground-like amenities, and with the exception of the person who thought a phone call was beyond the resort's means, everyone we encountered was very nice.

This place is nice enough. The good: very clean, awesome pool, nice jacuzzi, cute little cottages. Also, it is very clear that the owners truly care about their business and are working very hard.

The not so good: smaller cottages don't really have "kitchenettes", they have microwave + tiny fridge; breakfast isn't really a continental breakfast, but is waffles, coffee and fruit punch made with artificial sweeteners. Every. Day. The wireless signal wasn't all that strong. Also, fyi, the "Cedars" cottages are right by the pool, so can be loud. This wasn't a problem for us, but just so you know...

None of these little things really bothered us. What made this place sort of a drag was its low-level homophobic vibe. Our family = two women and a baby and this was clearly an issue, not with everyone but with several of the family-owners, especially the woman who owns the little shop on the premises who was quite cold to all of us. It was more of a cool shoulder from the others, but given that they were falling down nice to everybody BUT us, it was hard not to notice the *lack* of friendliness to us.

We have friends who were going to go there this fall, now they've found other arrangements. It didn't ruin our vacation, but it did leave us with a bad feeling, not something that you want to deal with on vacation. So, I suggest that gay. lesbian, otherwise alternative families and the people who love us steer clear of this place.

We stayed in Cedars 3 for 3 nights. What a huge disappointment this place was. First of all the accommodation was described as a 1 br suite. It was simply one large room, approx 12x17, with a king size bed, a rather tired and soiled loveseat, tiny kitchen area, and bathroom. The room needs updating and a paint job. The kitchen unit was very old. There is a microwave but no way to use it as the dishes and cups provided are metal and there are no non metal cooking dishes suitable for microwave use. Also, there is a note stating that there are no wine glasses, glasses, can or bottle openers here but these can be obtained for a deposit from the Tavern! So, be forewarned....if you stay here bring your own cooking dishes, microwaveable plates/cups, openers, glasses, paper towels (there were no paper towels provided). The bath towels were skimpy and very thin, the bed sheets were totally mismatched. The Wi Fi is only available at the Tavern or near the Tavern, not in the cottage units which one might expect when free Wi Fi is advertised. The price for this unit in the off season was $115 per night + tax....it is worth about $50 per night.
As for resort status, there is a pool (closed at the time of our October visit), one small fire pit, a bocce court, and that's about it. I would definitely not qualify this as a resort.....just a bunch of cabins and a pool. The management seems to have an inflated view of their premise!! We actually dreaded coming home to this place each evening. So, I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone, especially for the prices charged. There are so many other options in lovely Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor. The only plus was that the bed was comfortable and the shower was decent with plenty of hot water. That's about it. Don't stay here!

We traveled in high season, the beginning of August. Check in was smooth although you had to go to the tavern to check in. On our way to our cottage, we passed the highly regarded pool only to find no one around and the water green. It would have been nice to be warned that the pool was not able to be used. Our cottage/cabin, which is pretty much a stand alone hotel room, looks like it has not been maintained in years. The bed was a king and pretty comfortable other than that I have nothing good to say about the room. There is no wifi in the room either, only at the tavern. If they had rooms at the tavern I could understand this, but they don't. Needless to say, we could not wait to leave. I would have demanded a refund soon after check in if it were not high season with the unlikely chance of finding another place to stay. I would not recommend this "resort".

We travel with a large dog and were limited with choices in the area. The town of Boothbay Harbor is a lovely destination. I booked in May for one night, they required full amount deposit at that time. If they'd charged $50 a night, I would have expected what we found, not the $113 (with tax) we paid. The property is run down, even looked abandoned. The cabin was badly in need of paint. It appears their business focus is on the brewery and tavern not the accommodations. It was clean inside but needed a deep cleaning (baseboard doors very dusty). Our only mistake this trip to the coast of Maine was this place.

We are a group of friends who, every year, ( for 22 years now) have a "bocce weekend" where we go and have a great time playing our favorite game. We have played on many different courts, some "official" and some not, some good, and some not so good, and this year we chose as our destination the Boothbay Resort as they advertised that they had an established bocce court. What a great find!!! The hosts of this little resort could not have been more welcoming and eager to accommodate us, and went above and beyond to assure that we had a great weekend. When we arrived our cabins were ready for us, and the heat was on (this is October in Maine, remember). We stayed in "The Ceders." These cabins are small, perfect for two people, though one of them has a twin bed as well as a queen, which was great, as one of the couples with us has a child. All the cabins were very, very clean and well equipped. Micowave, hot plate, coffee maker, small fridge, and plenty of towels. The hot water was HOT and plentiful. The wifi signal was strong and steady. Frank, the caretaker, came around from time to time, making sure everything was satisfactory. Best of all, the bocce court was fantastic. Probably the best we have found at a lodging facility. Frank turned on the court lights so we could play after dark. The owners had put out a little metal fireplace so we could have a nice fire to keep us warm. Being so late in the season, we were the only people there for the first two days (we stayed three), but I imagine they are pretty busy in the summer. They are also pet friendly, which was also great as, between all of us, we had three dogs. They DO expect you to clean up after your dogs, but this is certainly reasonable. We have already decided to return next fall for our bocce weekend, and we are also planning to come at least once during the summer. This is a REALLY cool little resort, and we are so happy to have found it.

The hot tub was filled with green water. There was no wi-fi. The place had a funky odor and the staff were very pushy and rude. It was a huge let down for my vacation.
