Spruce Point Inn is a beautiful oceanfront destination situated on over 55 acres of shoreline fringed with tall spruce woodland. As the resort sits “off the beaten path,” getaways here feel like a genuine retreat. Located about an hour "down east" from Portland, Spruce Point Inn is a gem among Maine resorts, differentiated from other oceanfront properties by the acres of woodland, gardens and trails. Born as a private retreat for captains of industry seeking an oceanside escape for fishing, hunting and rusticating, Spruce Point Inn continues to burnish its legacy, offering an iconic coastal Maine experience. Guests here enjoy the luxury of leisure and simplicity – tailoring the Spruce Point Inn experience to their own pace. They may enjoy as much, or as little, as they’d like. Either way, they always leave feeling refreshed. Recognized by major travel media as “one of the best resorts in New England,” this vacation destination attracts all generations with a timeless appeal. Putting Spruce Point in the historical context of Maine200, the Inn has attracted travelers from across the United States for more than a century and has shared historic moments with national, international and Maine leaders as well as families and friends, each creating their own “oceanside memories made in Maine.” Spruce Point Inn is the premier Maine resort, an ideal venue for romantic or family getaways, and a distinctive destination for memorable reunions, seaside weddings and executive retreats.

If food and knowledgeable staff matter, stay elsewhere. This was a major disappointment given my expectations from their marketing. The food was so bad we walked away from full plates and drove into town…. Picture clam chowder that sticks to your spoon like old oatmeal…. And the staff that simply didn’t care! As a business leader I can only assume it’s the management.

Beautiful views. Wonderful food. Friendly staff. Lots of outdoor things to do. The perfect get-away. We enjoyed a long weekend that enabled us to enjoy Boothbay Harbor and surrounding areas in Mid-Coast of Maine. So much to do!

We are long time visitors to this Inn-15 + years. It used to be magical but was sold to a real estate investment company in 2019 and the changes came quickly and not for the good. To fully explain our experience would be a novella so suffice to say they are ridiculously expensive and woefully unprepared and / or unwilling to accommodate guests. You cannot choose a particular room as they say if there is a fire or flood then they could not accommodate you-seriously, that’s what they say. This last trip they were all set to put us in the type of room we requested, ran my credit card , and then said’”Oh Sorry we need to put you somewhere else”. At checkout I see the room rate is $150 higher then the rate confirmed in the reservation. They say the rates go up Thursday to Saturday. No one will call you back, the food is mediocre at best, the screen door on our room was so hard to open and close we just left it open, the AC leaves you either sweating or shivering, you can’t get a cup of coffee in the morning though my husband did find a staff member at the bar who agreed to provide it. This is a place that, once upon a time, acknowledged our ten year visit with a bottle of wine, fruit, and a card thanking us for our business. It is beyond sad what this place has become and I can only think the former owners must be blissfully unaware as they knew how to run an Inn. There are many options for accommodations in Boothbay Harbor that will serve you and your family much better

Given the price of our stay, I had higher expectations. The amenities on the property are wonderful for families - two pools, free harbor cruise and kayak/SUP use, Smore's nights, etc. But our room was tired and needs some updating, particularly the bathroom and deck. There was no daily cleaning service. And the sticking point for me was that the Salty Stag was a huge disappointment. The service was not great and food was not good. My tuna tartare appetizer was clearly not fresh and my daughter's fish and chips looked like kids fish fingers instead of a large piece of fresh fish. Grandview Deck was not open for service and I was told I could "order at the bar and carry my food outside on my own". When I went to look at the deck, it was almost completely void of seating. So we sat inside on a beautiful night, sadly, to eat underwhelming food. We rarely stay in hotels in Maine over the summer because of the high prices, and this was a reminder of why - it simply wasn't worth the money.

I could literally write a book about the many things that were so terribly wrong with our stay, but will spare the gory details and instead try to be helpful here. If you are considering staying here - please track the reviews online. It's a beautiful location in Boothbay - which is naturally stunning from every angle. However, I had certainly wished that I had read reviews before booking. The Inn is not what it appears to be online. Stuff is broken, dirty, and not properly maintained all over the property. Service is non-existent, and maddeningly absent when needed. This is not a luxury resort - but it has the potential to be. They obviously contract temp staffing through a global firm, but with no management present - you basically have all these very young, inexperienced, foreign workers operating this property like it's a Super 8. I'm not embellishing here. If you are looking for a luxury new england / Maine resort - you can find much better, at similarly beautiful locations, for much less (and save yourself a few headaches too). I hope that with new management and staff - the resort could live up to its potential (at least what is advertised) - so I'd recommend waiting until you see an upward trend here and on Yelp until booking. To ownership - you either need to rip and replace the General Manager and find staff that have experience in delivering quality service - or lower your prices dramatically and adjust your marketing to reflect the current quality of the Inn.
