The primary attraction is, I confess, the price. Under $200 per night is a bargain in summer in Maine. However, the thing I liked best was the "50's motel" meant there were windows that could be opened at both front and back of the room (ours was #3), yielding lovely fresh Maine air all night long. The AC was excellent and quickly cooled a closed-all-day room, and then nature took over. Didn't turn on the TV over two days. Our room did not have a refrigerator, but there was a place for one. My wife stayed at this location a year ago and in the same room and it did have a mini-fridge, which would have come in handy to safety store leftovers from the typical giant portions that restaurants serve these days. Maybe I should have asked. Overall a great find.

Take a trip back in time in this 1950’s motel. The rooms are quaint and very clean. We were in 11. This room had queen size bed which was very comfortable. This motel is located within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants in Boothbay Harbor. Also it is close to the beautiful Botanical Gardens. We only had a few issues. The bathrooms are small (similar to the old 1950’s bathrooms) and the toilet is close to the wall. If you are tall like my husband it is not easy. The second issue was the door to the room was hard to shut. If you are not careful, you may not get it closed all the way if you leave to go somewhere. That being said they have nice storm doors in front of them so they won’t completely be opened to the outside if it were to come open. We spent about two days in Boothbay Harbor in the beginning of May, right before tourist season. We had some chilly days and the room stayed perfectly warm. There is a great keurig in the office with plenty of coffee (my husband enjoyed), fridge and freezer( if you need it), and ice machine.

Mid-Town Motel is within a walking distance to the central Boothbay Harbor. Many had to come to the town early in the morning to secure a parking spot, but we could just leave our car in the motel property. We could drop off our purchases and come back out to town if needed to... Location was perfect.
WIFI worked very well.
However, our bathroom was very small, and it came with soaps and extra toilet paper only. The bath mat was paper. There was no mini fridge to keep your beverage cold. During our stay, I could hear our neighbors. One coughed a lot while awake. I was not certain if the door locked from inside. I kept a chair behind it to feel secure, but since the door required an actual key (not key pad), I felt a bit like sleeping in a shed.

Great location - just a short walk away from all the shops. Office is pretty much unattended. They should post a sign where to call for assistance. Also need a trash can outside for the guests for anything larger than the tiny trash can in the room!

We stayed here two years ago when Tim owned it. We had just needed a room for one night and it was very well priced. Tim was sweet and accommodating. At $100/night, as it was in 2020, the motel was charming and quirky. Under new ownership this year, it’s $200/night with absolutely no updating or even anyone there to check us in. Definitely nothing charming here at this price. It’s tired and nowhere near worth the price. There are plenty of hotels nearby that may be a few dollars more but so much more worth it.

Response from Innkeeper Topside, Owner at Mid-Town Motel
Responded Aug 8, 2022
Hello ArtTrippers, We are disappointed that your stay was not to your satisfaction. Tim was and still is a very good friend of ours and he trusted us to continue on the tradition of running his family's 1950's motor lodge in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Thou not relevant when discussing the value of your stay, Tim's ability to charge $100 a night was only possible as he did not have a mortgage on the property. We are disappointed you did not take notice of the upgrades we have made in order to make our guest's stay a good value, even at a higher rate. These upgrades included adding individual heat and air conditioning to each guest room (Tim's number 1 recommendation to us), new beds including four rooms with king beds now, new Comphy Company linens and pillows, a full line of amenities (soap, shampoo, lotion, shower gel), hairdryers, upgraded furnishings with USB ports and charging stations, new guest kitchen in the lobby with guest refrigerator, microwave, ice machine and Keurig Coffee maker with complimentary coffee in each room (this coffee maker was just installed this week, possibly after your stay) and doggie rest station. With so many 'value properties' disappearing, it is our goal is to be able to continue to offer visitors the option to stay in a clean, comfortable downtown Boothbay Harbor accommodation for the most reasonable price we are able to offer.

I love the vintage motels and quirky places found along the nation's highways and I so wanted to give this place a better review. The owner was so fun to chat with and I enjoyed visiting with his adopted cat, Oscar. The Mid-Town is just a short walk to Boothbay Harbors stores and restaurants. Being 50's style, it comes with no A/C, coffee maker, hair dryer, fridge, microwave, or ice machine. I can handle that, but no cloth bathmat? No facial tissue? A bathroom with absolutely no place for your toiletries? The room came with a limited amount of outlets, and none in the very small bathroom. The heater is in the wall, and would be dangerous for children to touch. We had Room #8, which required a climb of about 8 stone steps making it quite the challenge for us to get our luggage and belongings up them. I would recommend rooms 1-7 so you can pull up to your door. Assuming the owner plans to keep this motel for some time, remodeling of the property is in order.

Hello Yankee33, We know your review was posted in October 2021 under the previous owners management, however we thought it would be a good opportunity to let you and other readers know about the upgrades we have made to the property since taking over the property this past winter. As you mentioned, the amenities were minimal. Here is what we have done so far to make our guest's stay more comfortable: Air Conditioning!!! We have installed individual heat and air conditioning to each guest room, new beds including four rooms with king beds now, new Comphy Company linens and pillows, beautiful new cloth bathmats! (no more paper bathmats), a full line of amenities (soap, shampoo, lotion, shower gel), hairdryers, tissues, upgraded furnishings with USB ports and charging stations, new guest kitchen in the lobby with guest refrigerator, microwave, ice machine and Keurig Coffee maker with complimentary coffee in each room. We plan to continue to improve the property with outdoor living spaces and other fun amenities over the coming months. So thank you for posting your review last season and we hope you will visit us again and check out the upgrades.

Absolutely a trip back to the tiny motel rooms of the 50s and 60s. But, it's clean and has two chairs and two benches, so plenty of places to put things. No extra amenities, and NO COFFEE MAKER. We were warned by reading reviews so brought our very very old retro electric coffee percolator, which worked out perfectly! The owner is friendly and it really is 5 minutes or less to town, yet very quiet.

We needed a place in Boothbay Harbor to stay for one night. This place fit the bill perfectly. It was a great value for the money and our room was exceptionally clean and quiet. The owner, Tim, is super friendly and eager to help. We would stay here again just to experience his hospitality.

The charm of the place is that it lives up to its claim of being a 1950's classic. Rather than trying to do a budget update, Mid-Town Motel fully embraces its theme - and it works!

This motel is very convenient to downtown Boothbay Harbor, as well as out of the way of the traffic.

Retro motel. We stayed here for 2 days. Location is perfect. On top of a hill a 4-minute walk to the harbor where everything is. The motel room is a decent size, but the bathroom is tiny. There was a slight musty smell in our room. The bathroom is not really situated for a full-sized adult. It was a tight squeeze as the toilet was situated up against the wall. The shower is pretty much the size of an RV shower. Checkin and checkout was a breeze.

We stayed three nights and were very comfortable. Location! Location! Location!
Steps away from downtown, no worries about parking downtown which is tight sometimes, you're already there. Coffee in the morning makes me happy. For you coffee lovers there's coffee in the lobby so you don't have to drag yourself downtown to get your fix. A great value so close to all the shops and restaurants makes this stay
a positive one.

The Boothbay Region does not have many beaches, it's mostly a rocky shoreline. But we have a couple of nice small tidal cove beaches that are great for swimming and only 15 minutes from my Motel. Hope this answers your questions and take care and have a nice evening !!!!! Tim Lewis Mid-Town Motel
