I stayed at the Birchwood for two nights on my way to Freedom, Maine, and I couldn't have been happier. The couple who owns the Birchwood is friendly, available, and helpful. It is very inexpensive for the area but still includes a basic breakfast and nice lodging. Highly recommended for anyone on a budget. Also: nice views of the bay!

Pretty, clean, comfortable, and friendly place. Beautiful view of Penobscot Bay as you sit on the porch in great rocking chairs with lovely blooming flowers at your feet. Quick and tasty complimentary breakfast. Great owners - husband and wife who were so helpful and informative. On their recommendation, drove 5 minutes into th town of Camden and went on a windjammer/sailboat two-hour cruise in the bay on the ship, The Surprise. Gorgeous boat, great vistas, plus wonderful, interesting couple who are the owners of The Surprise. Thanks to them we road 10 minutes up to Mount Battey, took along our lunch, and saw the bay and forest as Edna St. Vincent Millay described them!!

You never quite know what you're going to get when you see places on the internet or just drive down the highway. We booked the Birchwood Motel based on the cryptic descriptions on the internet and the key tag line "best value in Camden". The place is exactly what you want in a motel -- close to town, impeccably clean, friendly service, cable TV, comfie bed and AC in the heat of the summer. The morning coffee sitting out on the porch was a bonus!

Looked for a place to stay. Had no reservations, went out of the busy center of Camden and all the tourist noise and found this very pleasant comfortable motel. I liked the fact that it had a long porch to sit after a busy day of sight seeing and just relax and look at the view of the water across the street. Very nice couple own this unique motel. I like the fact that there were fresh scones or muffins and fruit and coffee in the mornings in the motel lobby. I would recommend for 1 or 2 adults, very comfortable, clean and a great escape for the busy adult traveler. When in Camden again I will definitely stay there.

Sometimes what you read on the internet is 80% true. This is not the case with the Birchwood Motel as the hotel is one of the cleanest we have stayed in. The beds are comfortable with nice duvets. The room good size to accommodate two with luggage. You can tell Eric and Jenny take pride in what they do. Everything was freshly painted. Tips - a light breakfast of juice, great coffee, home baked something and fruit is enough to get you started. You are there for the lobster anyway. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner. Internet works best in the lobby and/or right outside your room. This place is a great value and we can see why people come back year after year.

One of the cleanest places we have ever stayed...you could have eaten off the floor! But that's about all I can say...the whole place was very bland and with no hot beverages available until breakfast,it was not a comfortable stay.Surely, as the owners are so eco friendly,it would be more green to provide coffee than to have a dozen or so cars taking the 6 mile round trip to Camden to buy hot drinks. Breakfast was minimal and we are much too old to be using jam/jelly jars to drink water out of...quirky but no!We would not stay again as for only 20 dollars more we have had much better accommodation in New England.

How would you like to stay on a farmette with chickens, a huge vegetable garden, a berry garden, fruit trees and flowers spilling all over? Yes. Birchwood Motel is actually just like that at a really nice motel. They offer home baked scones with berries from the garden at breakfast, and the staff (actually just wife, husband and cleaning lady) couldn't be more helpful. The only thing I wanted that wasn't YET available was access to their sauna. Yes they have one up in the woods above the berry garden and pond. The owners are deeply involved in organic gardening in Maine and if I remember correctly are officers on some type of state organization that encourages that type of living along with recycling. For more info about the actual motel experience, please read the others reviews because I agree completely with what they say. Sincerely. Gale Carlson.

We were riding through town with no reservations. We did some tripadvisor homework and liked the looks of the birchwood. We called ahead and reserved two rooms. Upon arrival we were thrilled with the million dollar views and the postcard setting. The grounds were spotless and loaded with flowers and fruit and berry bushes everywhere. The rooms were immaculate ... By far the nearest and cleanest rooms I've ever been in... Everything was perfect from the beds to the pillows sheets comforters and towels all top notch. In the a.m we were invited in for possibly the best cup of coffee I've ever had and homemade muffins. The owner was the nicest friendliest guy ever. This place is now saved on my favorites and we all look forward to coming back next year.

"The cottage sits back farther and is quieter. Room one (corner king) is closest to the office, so gets a bit more traffic."
