Granted, the road in is hectic, but if you don't have a bakkie a (2x4 will get you there) then Stuart, the owner, will gladly come and collect you at the gate and transport you in to the lodge. The lodge is situated...

I have now been to Boondocks more times than I can count. If you want somewhere off the grid, far away from the madding crowd, where you can just breathe and be, this is the place. Whether self-catering or B&B, Stuart & Ann offer home comforts and warm hospitality. Up on a mountain, eco-friendly (solar power etc) nestled in the...

We recently went to Mpumalanga for my birthday and my search for something extra special to do on my birthday, led me to Boondocks. What a place!!!!! I made prior arrangements with Stuart to be picked up at their gate at a certain time (as we do not drive a 4x4 vehicle). The rest of the day was so blessed....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Boondocks Mountain Lodge and LabyrinthBoondocks is a sanctuary for the soul. Perched quietly on a mountain overlooking the valley below, this unspoiled haven consists of 8 luxury en-suite double rooms all uniquely crafted with loving care and attention to detail.Boondocks Mountain Lodge has a very gentle footprint on the earth. Indeed it seems to grow organically from the very ground. For more than ten years it has been lovingly crafted to be an example of how without any compromise you can live and work off the grid. All electricity is solar powered as indeed is the hot water. The water is sourced from a spring at the top of the mountain and is gravity fed to the lodge and flows by gravity through five pools and is then returned to the stream. Beautiful spring water in every tap and pool. Not forgetting the outdoor shower with a truly breathtaking view. The garden, with spectacular views over the whole valley features an open-air shower and secluded niches for meditation. Guests may roam freely among a wide variety of birds and wild life living in a range of habitats from riverine valleys to ancient woodlands. The wild life population consists of rhino, giraffe, kudu, wildebeest, zebra, impala, grey and red duikers, bushbuck, mountain rhebuck, klipspringer, warthogs, bush-pigs and all the many smaller animals and carnivores, including monkeys and baboons. There is also a large and varied bird life, including forest and open veldt species.Boondocks nestles in the centre of a 100 square kilometre conservancy. Boondocks itself overlooks a large valley with low hills, lying in a great amphitheatre of beautiful mountains. It is covered in typical bushveld with magnificent and varied riverine forest in the kloofs and along the stream beds. The Labyrinth offers a quiet time of personal reflection in a natural setting – a unique experience! ... more   less
