The Harraseeket Inn & Event House presents a mixed bag of experiences, according to guest reviews. While the location earns praise for its proximity to Freeport's shopping and attractions, opinions on service and room quality vary, with some finding the service lacking and the rooms in need of an update.
The inviting atmosphere of public spaces contrasts with the outdated charm of the private quarters. Despite the clean conditions celebrated by many, the value proposition is questioned as guests express concerns over rising prices and diminished services.

My husband and I just returned from a delightful two-night stay at The Harraseeket Inn. It was our first time staying there. Check-in was quick, despite the fact that we arrived earlier than the stated check-in time. Front desk person was pleasant and welcoming. One of the things that I am very sensitive about is the smell upon entering a hotel. I was not disappointed or offended. I was even more pleased with the crisp, all white bed linens. Our room was sparkling clean with plenty of towels in the bath, and if we wanted more, all we had to do was ask. But what I really liked was when we were told that unless we requested that the room be serviced during our stay, the staff would not enter. We felt that for a two -night stay, we did not need our bed made or the room tidied up. And the windows in our room actually opened! That's a big bonus for me.
We enjoyed both the complimentary continental breakfast at The Porter Kitchen & Bar, as well as ordering off the menu. Waitstaff were happy to serve us, and the offerings were delicious and fresh. Afternoon tea consisted of a delectable array of cheeses, fruit, freshly baked cookies and other small bites. A nice touch after a day of walking and shopping and just needing a little bite of something before dinner.
One cannot beat the location of the Inn. Literally a five minute walk to all the shops, and during our stay, it was pretty quiet all around. It was a delight to be able to stroll at a comfortable pace without dodging people left and right.
We will definitely choose The Harraseeket Inn when we return to Freeport. Thank you for a lovely and memorable stay!

We have been to Harraseeket Inn numerous times. It is in easy walking distance of all that Freeport has to offer. The Inn is classy, clean and comfortable. The employees make it top notch. The price to stay is high for the area, but breakfast was included so it was more reasonably priced. We always enjoyed our visit. The Inn was sold and we heard there were to be changes. We are not happy. The Tavern's food was always very good. It purchased supplies from local producers - but this is no longer the case. You can expect "Sysco" chowder in a bag for the clam/seafood chowder. The rotisserie chicken (a Tavern stable) no longer exists. The menu had changed so much (not to the better) that we went elsewhere for dinner. We looked to book a room mid-October (not on the weekend) and the price was $299 plus tax and $22 each for breakfast. We will miss seeing the wonderful people we have gotten to know over the years, but at this point, we will not be returning to Harraseeket Inn.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The staff are excellent, particularly at the Front Desk. Breakfast is very well done, well-prepared and creative. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Mattress could use an upgrade. Afternoon tea is a real pleasure. Location in Freeport is walking distance to shops and restaurants. Very convenient and close to a bus stop for express service to Portland or Brunswick. One complaint: Like many hotels this is now charging a "facility fee." Two points about this. First, we all know that such fees are really just an addition to the room rate. Figure what room rates you need to make your business plans work and charge that rate; get rid of these "fees." That would be much more honest and customer friendly. Second, if you charge such a fee, be honest about it and include in the "total" when your customers make a reservation. Here, the "facility fee" is shown after the reservation is complete and a deposit has been paid. It is hidden in the text of a "welcome" email. This is really not a good way to treat your customers and it takes the bloom off what otherwise would be a first-class place to stay.

Dear POACA, Thank you for your kind review of The Harraseeket Inn! We appreciate your lovely remarks about our dedicated staff, breakfast, clean accommodations, and afternoon tea. That said, regarding your concerns about the facility fee, we understand your perspective, and we appreciate your feedback. This is common for most resorts and it includes many amenities that we offer. Your suggestions about being more upfront and transparent about such fees during the reservation process are duly noted, and we will work towards improving this aspect of our communication. We hope you will return soon for another enjoyable stay. Sincerely, Chris Pfeffer General Manager

The location was excellent, a very short walk to the LL Bean complex, the main shopping district, and close to the highway. The hotel has a nice included breakfast buffet. The main hotel has cozy sitting areas and fire pits. There also is a nice set of outdoor games in the back. We stayed in the townhomes. The townhomes are freestanding behind the hotel. The sloped walkways are cracked, uneven, poorly lit and overgrown with foliage. During a rain storm, large puddles gathered outside our entry door and a river ran down the already treacherous walkway. The unit had a nicely equipped kitchen, but well worn microwave and dishwasher. The counter tops were chipped and a refrigerator had a faint smell. The sitting room and bedroom decor was from the 1970’s with faded tables, scuffs on the walls and threadbare furniture. The washer & dryer had detergent for one load. The second floor had 2 bedrooms. The beds were fine, but had scratchy sheets. The bathroom is very small, but well stocked with towels, soap, shampoo and toilet paper. There was no hair dryer. There was very little space on the vanity for any additional personal items. The tub creaked when standing in the shower. The tiny bathroom is fine for a family with small kids, but very tight for 4 adults. The bones of this place are good, but it really needs an update.

We have been going here for over twenty years and felt like family. The Greys were exceptional inn keepers and very community oriented and committed to the environment. In June of 2023 the Inn was sold to Giri Hotels The rates have gone way up and the services have gone down. Breakfast is no longer included and the afternoon tea is dismal. Also a $25 per day resort fee is added. No housekeeping service either. The commitment to locally sourced food is gone. The breakfast was buffet style. The food was put out in bowls and cold. The meal in the Tavern was overpriced. No more homemade desserts and pastries. Apparently the pastry chef was let go.Many of the longterm staff have left. In the past the Easter weekend would be bustling with guests. We overheard staff members saying that leftover food from the Easter buffet was being thrown in the garbage. I asked a chef who was cutting out circles from slices of bread what he did with the leftover bread and he said garbage. With so many people suffering with food insecurity this breaks my heart. Sadly we won’t be returning. Before writing this review I reached out directly to the Giri Management Group and didn’t get a response. Obviously they are in it for money and do not care what guests think. The lack of guests during a usually busy holiday weekend tells the story.

blueberry Quebec, First, I must say I really enjoy your handle. blueberry Quebec. My wife is 100% French Canadian. It's a nice connection to have on the way to the start, I hope of a new friendship. I am going to do my best to address every point you have made. You may agree with some, you may not, but at least you will know where we are coming from and our thoughts/plans. Our rates, in actuality, have not gone up but are slightly lower and adjusted to sell a little differently. The annual average rate of the hotel in the last year of the Grey Family was slightly over $240. Last year the annual rate finished at $195, though we do add the facilities fee which equates to $220. In recent years, as you are aware, there has been a great staffing shortage. The vast majority of hotel companies have reduced housekeeping services for several reasons. Among them is the availability of staff. The other is a biproduct which speaks to one of your core values and that is the environment. Changing and cleaning linens every day is a waste and not good for the environment. Going 2 days without changing sheets, relatively speaking, should not be a hardship and is good for the environment. We do, however, offer a refresh of amenities if requested [we are crafting a door hanger for more visibility] and upon request we will of course, offer a full service. So, it is not truly disappeared, just taken another form and for the better, I believe. If daily service is important to you, please ask for it, we are happy to provide it. We also intend, this winter, to add amenities in pumps to our guestrooms, greatly reducing plastic and product waste. Breakfast is no longer included, and we are currently working on upgrading it. We also share your view and want to make some additional positive adjustments at the same price. We have not changed anything regarding the tea service so I would like to get specific feedback from you and understand where you see the differences. We no longer have a pastry chef though our executive chef makes most of the bread and pastries onsite. It is not unusual for a portion of the staff to turnover in transitions like this. I wish it weren't so but my 39 years with 4 companies provides evidence to the contrary. There are a variety of reasons why this occurs, too many to write but we can discuss them. By the very nature of buffets, some items are discarded. Every restaurant does its best to estimate the food purchase ratio to guests. Often it depends on what guests choose to eat more of than any other. All restaurants do their best. Going off topic here, for a moment, I think this is a larger problem in general. We have come to expect oversized portions, much of which gets thrown away, but reducing portions restaurants face a backlash. Go to any restaurant, anywhere and look at the pile of French fries as a side we all get, most of which gets thrown away. Another good topic to chat about offline. Easter in general was very well attended and comments were very positive. We did prepare for the number of people we received - as noted above. Finally, I don't know who you tried to contact at Giri but we would have responded had we received it, I assure you. Customer satisfaction is a major focus and a pillar. Honestly, you can't be in this business and not be all about the guest satisfaction. Please send a inquiry to connect to HIFRME@girihotels.com and I will be happy to reach out directly. Look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your comments and the opportunity to address them. Management Harraseeket Inn

Many years ago in 2016 I had dinner with family at the Broad Arrow Tavern in the Harraseeket Inn. The experience was wonderful and I had always wanted to return. Returning in October of this year we found the tavern closed and were seated in the main dining room. My first unpleasant surprise was how uninterestingly the room was decorated completely lacking the charm of the tavern. We got on with ordering dinner starting with an appetizer of New England Mussels. These were overcooked and tough. Following on to the main entree of a baked haddock, I found it again overcooked and accompanied by an assortment of vegetables oddly hidden under the filet. My overall impression (and second unpleasant surprise) was the food quality and presentation not up to what you'd expect in an establishment of this caliber. The final unpleasant surprise was the inattentiveness of the wait staff. After informing our server that we were done and ready for the check, it took 20 minutes for her to return with the check even though she repeatedly walked past our table and could see we were sitting there at an empty dirty table. I will not be returning. But I do hope the management can correct the inn's shortcomings and return it to its former stature.

The good: The public spaces in this hotel are warm and inviting. The hotel is within walking distance to all of the shops downtown. They have a heated pool, offer afternoon tea, and continental breakfast comes with each room. The wait staff at breakfast and our final dinner were fun, polite, and attentive. Not so good: What we were disappointed with was the room we stayed in. While the beds were made up nicely and the bathroom was clean, as others have mentioned, the room decor was very outdated. The room was clearly well used - with dings on the furniture and old wallpaper on the walls. The light colored rug was visibly stained and needed a good cleaning. The amount of dust on the electrical cords also showed that they had not been cleaned in quite a while. The last bit of frustration came with the group meal that we had with our tour group. While the food was well seasoned, every single person in our group was served cold food with undercooked vegetables.

My family and I are long time patrons of the Harraseeket Inn…30 years! We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our family at the Harraseeket in 2021. This year, we came up to celebrate our 52nd anniversary with two of our adult children. I am writing to you as a concerned patron of the Inn. First, let me say that the staff is lovely. Our disappointment is in the state of the hotel. It doesn’t feel as clean and fresh as it should. I know that you have plans for new carpets, floors and furnishings. I hope that you keep the old charm of the place as you refresh. Our bigger disappointment was with the Broad Arrow Tavern. An important reason that we stay at the Harraseeket has always been the great dining experience. It set the Inn apart from other hotels and restaurants in town. It was much better years ago and has gotten progressively worse through the years. This year was especially disappointing. It was the topic of conversation in the breakfast line each morning. One reason that visitors travel to Maine is to order steamed lobsters, fried clams, clam chowder and homemade Maine blueberry pie. In the past we were able to order extra lobsters to take home and a whole blueberry pie to go. This year, there were no steamed lobsters, no fried clams, no clams at all in the clam chowder (it was a potato soup) and no freshly made blueberry pie! The few desserts offered were not good…and guests were heard to complain that strawberry shortcake was tiny and stale. If the establishment is not pristine and the food is not good, how can you hope to keep people coming back? One more thing, we miss the moose and other assorted creatures staring at us in the Broad Arrow…they gave the restaurant charm and we had always taken family photos with the big moose.
I hope that the new owners of the Harraseeket will address our concerns and let us know when the Inn is in better condition and when the food is back to excellent. We want to continue our tradition of staying at the Harraseeket!

I chose this hotel based on the high ratings. What a disappointment. The first room we checked into smelled like a stale ashtray, despite it being a nonsmoking hotel. The people at the front desk graciously changed us to another room, but that room had a wet spot on the floor, the carpet was stained, and the furniture was battered. The toilet was also stained. The whole place was just tired looking. They offered coffee and hot cocoa in urns in the lobby, but every time we went to get some, the urns were empty. The receptionist never told us that there was a free breakfast -- neither did the restaurant. We ended up paying for breakfast. For the rates charged, this hotel did not deliver. I expect clean, updated rooms, beds that don't sag in the middle, and at least a cup of fresh coffee when I'm paying over $400 a night.

In addition, we’re sorry to hear there was confusion about our breakfast offerings. We offer a complimentary continental breakfast with an option to order from our a la carte menu and we will be sure the team better communicates this to all of our guests upon check-in. Breakfast:
Start your day off right! Breakfast will be available in the Maine Harvest Restaurant each morning. Reservations are required and can be made at the front desk. Our wonderful breakfast buffet includes many offerings such as eggs, pancakes, French toast, breakfast meat, oatmeal, homemade granola, fresh fruit and so much more. Breakfast is $22.95 per person. In addition, coffee and tea are available in the Drawing Room starting at 6:00 am each morning.
There is an outside patio of sorts, set up with tables and chairs which extend the restaurant. Additionally, some seating circles an outdoor fireplace. However, sunning yourselves after pool use in this area overall is not similar to what you might hope to have typically.
Yes it is if you book with them. Buffet is so delicious, don’t miss their bacon. Afternoon tea is also really good also. You will really love Harraseeket’s staff cause they are wonderful people just like Randolph folks. Love Randolph, NY just came back Saturday from visiting.
There are more places to choose from in the Freeport area.
