We enjoyed this place very much. What a treasure !! we were not “on vacation” but needed to get out of the house for a couple days while work was being done. I drove by this place hundreds of times over the years and never gave it a second thought because you’re not usually looking for a hotel 20 minutes from your house. But we thought this place was delightful and would definitely recommend it to travelers visiting Maine, Especially travelers with pets .There were four adults and two dogs .the first night we stayed in a small cabin which was adequate, because a larger cabin was not available. But then the next two nights we got a larger cabin and it was fantastic. The staff is very friendly. There is no restaurant. In the mornings, there is coffee and pastries, which I believe are homemade and it is a pleasant seating atmosphere. You can take short walks around the cabin roads or sit out on the cabin porch. You can’t walk to Freeport , but it is less than 10 minutes away and if you want swimming, Winslow Park was a delightful find about 20 minutes away.

My wife and I stayed 1 night, arriving before 2PM. The owner checked my confirmation #, took the credit card payment, said breakfast was discontinued due to Covid and the “key is in the door” of #11. We parked near its picnic table and moved into the small handicap accessible cottage with a table and 2 chairs, a comfortable queen, nice TV(50 channels) and an actual working fireplace. The next room had a kitchenette and then the spacious bathroom with shower. No AC as all the windows opened and had baseboard electric heating. The open WIFI worked intermittently depending on # of users. This old style motor court has 20 nicely spaced cottages just off Rt #1 and the really busy I-295 immersed in an older dense stand of oak and pine woodland that moderates the road noise. Choices of cabins include ones with a fireplace(kindling + wood) or more modern ones with AC and extra bedrooms.
Our is a well furnished and clean older style, making for a romantic stay for $87/night.

Maine Idyll has become our go-to base to explore the area for its location and affordability. And during the pandemic, having a self-contained cabin is convenient so we could sanitize for ourselves.

Cabin 10 offers a bed, desk, bureau, table and chairs, fireplace and kitchenette.

Horrible…I felt I was in a homeless shelter. Rotting wood on walls, floor on a 25 degree pitch, dirty…I could go on….. Nightmare!!
The wall heating was not on and door of cabin open so it took a while to heat. There was no dishes or kitchen utensils so you could even make a lunch, never mind a meal. One chair so to watch TV had to from bed. No one would want to go into that tiny aluminum shower. No heat in bathroom. I was in tears and couldn’t wait to leave.

On our two week driving trip around Maine and Canada we stayed in hotels and AirBnBs. We didn't want to end our trip at a generic overpriced airport hotel. Maine Idyll Motor Court was historic from the 1930's and perfect end of trip stay for us. The cabin, the grounds, and the friendliness were memorable. The home baked treats for breakfast were unbelievably delicious, served on the front porch. It was less than a half hour to get to to the Portland Jetport.

It’s exactly as we expected, older furnished but clean and run by helpful owners. The cabin was cute, loads of space, warmed up quickly via the heater. Would have loved to have used the real fireplace if we’d been there for more than one night. Coffee, juice and homemade cakes ( with 2 gluten free options) offered in the morning.

Our family stayed in cottage 4. Check in was quick. However, upon arrival to our cottage, we found a dirty towel under one of the beds along with lots of pet hair and a dirty stuffed animal. It was very gross and made the whole place feel dirty. Bed was comfy and cabin was sufficient otherwise. If you have a bunch of coffee drinkers maybe bring you’re own coffee pot or plan on grabbing coffee on the go. This had a tiny little singe brew coffee maker that wasn’t worth the time or hassle with 4 of us drinking coffee. If this place was cleaned properly and given a little TLC (fresh coat of paint in bathroom, a decent coffee maker, and better door knobs that don’t get stuck) it could be a great and charming little place to stay.

We enjoyed our stay. It was exactly what we wanted as I would much rather stay in a place like this than a hotel. The location is perfect as it is only minutes from downtown Freeport. Our room has A/C, a fireplace (wood was provided), a fridge, microwave and hot plates. The only slight issue I had was there was some cobwebs in the corner of the rooms that could have been cleaned but other than that it was great! We talked with two different people that we’re working in the office and both were very nice and helpful.

Charming and wonderful. My husband and I felt like we were living in the fifties and I mean this in the best way possible. We had cabin 9, which is made up of two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. There’s a fireplace in one of the bedrooms that I would have loved to use but, alas, the temperatures were in the high eighties! Speaking of that, there was a very modern ductless air conditioner in the kitchen that cooked the place down quite nicely. The place was clean, the bed comfortable and the staff friendly. The only thing keeping me from giving five stars is the water pressure in the shower wasn’t very good. I wish I could give 4.5. All in all, I can’t wait to stay there again next time we’re in Maine!

This was a bit rough. The bed was HORRIBLE!! They know this because there is a cheap foam pad on top of the mattress. The mattresses are ancient. Cabin #18 was very old, not quaint. Spiders everywhere, old webs not cleaned between wall and items in the room...don't drop anything and you won't see it. Website said A/C in every cabin. It was a LIE, no A/C!! Left the windows open at night with the 2 table fans they gave us...listed to the 295 all night. You are sleeping right next to the 295. The table had the only available flat surface in the room and it had two fans on it. The shower was a small square with a shower curtain on two sides that stuck to you the whole time you are showering, no vent/fan in bathroom. The weirdest thing is that the bathroom sink water smelled like an ash tray, not the shower just the sink. Didn't expect luxury for the price but did expect it to live up to the write up on the website. The patio "furniture" and picnic table in front of the cabin was filthy. Bring cleaning supplies if you want to use it. Won't return...really wanted to like it. Wanted a place that was inexpensive but comfortable to come back to in the future. Will keep looking.
