I was fortunate to stay in the Freeport, Maine Hilton Garden Inn on our way down south on the 29th of Mar 23 and on our return home on the 12th of May 23. Both stays were memorable because of the excellent customer service we received. The young woman on duty at the front desk on both occasions was friendly, courteous and went above and beyond providing outstanding customer service. She remedied a minor error in our room allocation on the 29th of Mar and by way of apology provided a complimentary breakfast. Then on our return stay on the 12 th May, upgraded us to a suite. Very much appreciated. During our 29th of Mar stay, the breakfast attendant the following morning was prompt and efficient in her service and got us off to a good start for the long drive ahead of us. Again on the 29th of March, we had dinner and drinks in the hotel bar, the food was very well prepared and the older man who was acting as the bartender attentive and knowledgeable. The same was true on our return stay on the 12th of May, food was very good, drinks generous and the older woman who was acting as the bar tender again attentive and knowledgeable. Kudos go out to all the staff at this Hilton from the manager to the cleaning staff for making our stays so comfortable!

The hotels in Maine are shockingly expensive. I selected this Hilton because it was inexpensive and reasonably driveable to Portland. It turned out that this Hilton Garden Inn was brand new and exceptionally nice with tasteful framed photos of Maine hung throughout it. Freeport is pretty limited - it's home of the LL Bean HQ and outlet malls, but the Hilton is close to all of them, the parking was free, the price was right and it was no problem to get to downtown Portland. I was very glad I selected it.

We stayed at this property on a Thursday night in early May and found it comfortable and tidy.
The gentleman who checked us in, and out, was very friendly and the process was quick and easy. Our king room on the third floor was equipped with a fridge, microwave and a large TV. The bed was comfortable and equipped with 4 full sized pillows, which we appreciated, as many hotels now use tiny half sized pillows. Bathroom with walk in shower was clean with plenty of towels, but starting to show a bit of wear; caulking, slight red mildew at edge of sliding shower door. Nothing to really complain about, it could simply use a touch up. Overall, we found the hotel in pretty good shape.

They were doing some renovations in the lobby, and we were awakened briefly around 9am by some hammering, but it didn’t last long thankfully. Restaurant service was suspended due to the pandemic, but there were snacks available in the lobby, and plenty of dining options in the area. Parking is just across a quiet street opposite the main entrance. There is an outdoor seating area with a gas fire pit, and we enjoyed sitting in the sun in the afternoon for a bit.

The hotel is about a block from the main drag in Freeport, and one can easily walk to shopping and dining without having to drive. Additionally, the commuter train runs just behind the property, so guests can easily catch it to nearby Portland, or a number of other destinations. While we did hear the train several times during the day, we heard nothing at night, and what noise we did hear was minimal. My wife actually mentioned how quiet the location was generally. Of course it is earlier in the season and summer is likely a bit more hectic, but during our stay we felt pleasantly removed from the main street hustle and bustle.

Overall, we liked this hotel and would consider a future stay.

If you choose a room with breakfast included, and then book it for four people, shouldn't it then be safe to assume your calculated rate includes more than "one breakfast". We were greeted this way, followed with "would you like to buy the other three" when we arrived at the Hilton Garden Inn, Freeport. Subsequently striking the "one breakfast" reduced our 2 day rate by a total of $6.

Went on a vacation to decrease stress and unfortunately our stay at this hotel created more stress. Management is very dodgy, unresponsive and greedy. I booked a stay with them for an incorrect weekend and called late after realizing I was charged for a no show fee. I still needed a two night stay for the correct date and they told me they would speak to management about refunding the incorrect date. My mistake was to believe that they would be helpful I ended up paying for and staying the correct date with them.. Management never followed up after I reached out to them 5 times (twice in person) and instead ignores calls and emails.. Had they been upfront with the fact that they were not refunding me I would have never booked with them again (spent $1,500 for two nights spent). I have family who visits the area frequently for work and I will be sure this location does not get any more money from us.

Bar: closed. Restaurant: closed. Room service: unavailable. Half the product in the lobby store: sold out. Breakfast buffet: not a buffet at all and you charge $13 per person when we paid $150/night for the room. All the Covid protocols you have in place but staff isn't even sanitizing the most critical places in the hotel rooms after each guest. There were hairs on our sink when we checked in and not in the corner; up front and center in front of the sink and when the bathroom fogged up during a hot shower it revealed a huge phallus a previous guest had drawn on the glass shower door. At check-in, the heavy-set man spent his whole "welcome" speech telling us what the staff WASN'T going to do for us. E.G. service the room in any way during our stay. Horrible stay and we'll never stay again. We loved Freeport and will be back often; just not with Hilton.

The room was nice but everything else was disappointing.
* The heat pump in the room kept turning on the A/C when I turned the head done, I had to turn off the thermostat to get the heat to shut off w/o the A/C turning on. The heat pump should be setup to not engage the A/C in the winter.
* The ceiling vent in the bathroom was very dusty and had not been cleaned in a long time.
* I waited 10 minutes at the bar for the bartender to show up to order dinner around 7pm. He showed up to take a dinner order from a party sitting down, said he'd be with me soon, and 5 minutes later he was still not back. I left to get dinner elsewhere.
* Breakfast starts at 6am, I showed up around 6:25am and it wasn't completely setup yet, and the potatoes I was served were cold and wilted.

I visited this hotel pre-Covid and unfortunately it’s totally different now. I was not recognized as a Diamond member. I was not advised about food allowances. I was advised housekeeping had returned and if I didn’t want my room cleaned to hang a “ Do Not Disturb “ sign on the door. I didn’t and my room still was not cleaned. The lounge was not open for the length of my stay. I have the property a 3 because it’s a great location.

This Hilton Garden Inn is conveniently located in downtown Freeport. It is 25 minutes from the Portland airport (40 minutes in traffic). The hotel is well maintained - our rooms were spotless. The beds were very comfortable. The real stand out of the hotel, though, is the staff. Lisa and Patrick greeted our family when we arrived. Their service was impeccable. Throughout our stay, all of the staff were just great. They were friendly, professional and engaging. They always asked if we needed anything. They were quick to assist when needed. They had excellent recommendations and advice when asked. Shawn made evenings at the bar a pleasant, relaxing end to the day. I wish I could remember all of the names of the staff we encountered. I have lifetime diamond status with Hilton, and the staff here is in the top five of any location I have stayed at in my career.

This is an excellent location to use as a starting point for day trips. We went on several hiking trails that were within 30 minutes of the hotel. Popham Beach is a 40 minute drive. The hotel is centrally located in Freeport so it is easy to walk to many locations, including LL Bean. It avoids the hassle of parking in a busy town. Bow Street market is an easy walk.

We have already booked a return reservation.

What a WONDERFUL hotel! We loved our spacious, modern, clean room and the beds were so comfortable. There is a bar off the lobby with delicious food served in the evening and the breakfast here was reasonably priced -cooked by a chef-and offered great breakfast selections. There was no need to leave the hotel to eat and we greatly appreciated that after all our traveling. Also, the staff in all areas of this hotel were extremely polite and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel and will be sure to stay here when we return to Freeport!
