Worst motel/hotel I’ve ever been too. Key cards didn’t work and nobody was there at 8:00pm. Nobody answered the phone after 10 calls and voicemails.
All our belongings were in there including my dads diabetic medication that he needs everynight at a certain time. Had no option but to kick the door in. NEVER GO HERE!!!! NEVER!!! and it’s just disgusting, dirty. I spilt water on the floor, and wiped it up with a tissue. The tissue was black. Clearly they do not clean around here. 1000/10 do not recommend.
Woke up in the morning, nobody there still. At 8:00. Pathetic. This place deserves to be shut down.

Nice accommodations for our trip to Bar Harbor. This was nice enough for my group who just needed a place to sleep and shower, but the floors were so dirty we had to wash our feet before getting in bed. Staff was nice and very helpful.

The first time we stayed here in 2019, we must have had a brand new room. It was clean & adorable with a nautical theme. So, when we decided to revisit Maine again this year (2020), we booked White Birches again. What a disappointment. We must have received the oldest room in the place. As soon as I walked into the bathroom, there was a spider crawling across the floor; not a big deal as they can be anywhere, however, there was a large spider web with a spider in it in the corner of the room. After cleaning that out, it appeared back the next day. The rug felt dirty & I was completely skeeved out by the sheets. Thank goodness I brought my own pillowcase. After arriving home, I realized that I left my phone charger plug in the outlet behind the night stand. I called twice & they promised to check with housekeeping but no one returned my call either time. After the third time, they said that nothing was found. I know for a fact that I left it there & I told them that. I had pulled the cord out, which came detached from the plug & then I forgot to reach behind & grab the plug. I specifically asked if housekeeping checked the outlet behind the nightstand & was told yes. I proceeded to tell him that that means that someone must have walked off with it. He could not have cared less. We love Maine & plan to visit every year but will NEVER stay here again & DO NOT recommend it!!

Response from Gibson properties Gibson, Owner at White Birches Motel

Thank you for your review! We are sorry you had some issues. We were not told during your stay that the room was not to your liking as we may have been able to move you to a better room, we do have some older style rooms as we are making changes all the time. As for the charger, it did take some time to look into and get in contact with the housekeeper that cleaned the room. While it may have been a oversight on our staff for not seeing it, you are right that someone may have checked in after and walked off with it and for that we are sorry. Its not a case of we do not care, but there is not much we can do about the situation after the fact. Our housekeeper said she did not remember seeing it but that doesnt mean it was not in the room. Once more we are sorry.

Bare minimum place to stay. Bring your own towels… we only were given a wash cloth and it was gross. Bed was uncomfortable my boyfriend couldn’t sleep. WAYYYYY to expensive for experience. The lady at the desk was very nice, but that doesn’t excuse the sticky floors dirty rag on tv stand and gross bathtub. I have stayed at way nicer camps let alone hotels.

My husband and I visited Maine for our anniversary from Maryland. We saw the great deal and jumped on it. The room was cute at first glance, but that's it. We stayed for 5 days/4 nights and during that time we never had the cleaning staff come to clean our room. When I reported this they gave me a couple of trash bags and told me to put the trash outside my door and they would pick it up. I don't mind cleaning, but we're on vacation...we should not have to take out our own trash. I had to go get new towels, because as I said no one cleaned so the old towels were never picked up.
Oh, it gets better. The television was never plugged in so my husband had to plug it in and put it on the right settings. The telephone was plugged in, but there was no dial tone. If there was an emergency you couldn't reach them, because there was no phone plus they close their office early and open up late.
The room while it looks nice is extremely dirty and smells! I walked around the room and when I sat down the bottom of my socks were black. We will never stay again.

We check in and are told to put a door hanger out if we want room service. No hanger in our room. My parents room had no heat (baseboard heat) and by the 3rd call they bring in a portable heater. So next day we go to the front office where they say they serve coffee. 7:30 in the morning and office is locked up/ no one there. We come back from our ventures and I speak to the office lady (who is super nice by the way) and apologized and said rooms “should” be cleaned daily without the hanger and assured us it would get cleaned the next day (3rd day of visit). Come back the third day to watching a fight in the parking lot which continued for almost an hour that we saw in which a boy charged out of a room with a lug wrench charging after the staff people trying to diffuse the situation. Again the staff apologized but basically said we didn’t have to stay if we didn’t want to. Seriously? 4 nights no room service and watching what looks like people living at the motel on drugs fighting. And these pictures…, clearly depict the reality of the rooms. The pictures online are not what these rooms look like!

I booked this reservation through Expedia and received a confirmation number and email for my stay. When I arrived I was given an electronic key to my room ( number 166 ) and went to my room. When I unlocked the door and stepped in, the room was OCCUPIED!!!
I return to the front desk and inform them of their screw up. I was then informed that they were full and had no rooms despite my confirmation.
The whole property reaked of stale cigarette smoke with people hanging around outside loitering and smoking the outside grounds were filthy and the minute I drove into the parking lot I had a feeling that I had made a bad choice for a room.
Don't let the pretty website and description of the property fool you like it did me. The place is a dump.

Place is a dump. I usually disregard the best and worst reviews and find that places are in the middle. This place is poorly maintained, dirty and seems like some of the rooms have people living long term. Our room was dark, had no table or place to set suitcases. Additionally the outlet in the bathroom was shorted so they brought an extension to use. No floor rugs or mat so the floor was very slippery as it rain for a day snd a half. Our friends room had 4 LED ceiling lights that were so bright you needed to wear sunglasses while inside. Their room has a table and chairs but no where to hang anything. The rooms we’re supposed to be the same. They both were filthy so I guess that counts.

The staff was friendly but because of the poor condition and dirty conditions I would highly recommend you avoid this place

The room was not clean. Hairs in the bath tub, grime on the floor. Maid service would begin to clean the room, emptying the trash, piling up dirty towels and then never return to the room. The air conditioning unit wasn't working properly. The staff communicated by yelling across the property at all hours. There were loud arguments on the property. The towels and bedding were poor quality. The exception was the reception staff who were helpful and professional.

Was planning on staying here but due to a family emergency had to cancel. Their cancellation policy is that you get a full refund as long as you cancel 48 hours in advance. I called to cancel and was told that I would receive a refund.. about a week later, still haven’t received anything. I have called every single day and no one answers the phone. I left a voicemail, still no call back and still no refund!
