We recently returned to The Colony, and had another great experience. We reserved the same cabin as last year, and it was great to be back. The check-in was quick and efficient. All the staff we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The location was perfect. We enjoyed the sunrise at the beach across the road each morning. The national park entrance was right down the road, and the town of Bar Harbor was a few minutes drive away. Our cabin was very comfortable and spacious. We had a great stay and will definitely be making plans to return.
We've been coming to the area for years. Each time staying somewhere new. This year I wanted a cabin because we were traveling with an infant. The staff or owners I spoke to on the phone were lovely and because of covid I had to change our stay once or twice and they were very accommodating. When I arrived to check in the lady at the front desk was very short with me and the next day the same way with my husband. There was no kitchen. There was a small fridge (that even on the lowest setting froze all our food and drinks) and microwave beside a very small bathroom. It was also very outdated. I read on thete paperwork in the room that we could pay extra to use a grill which didn't really sit well with me. Overall it was decent but there are other places I would go back to before coming back here…
There were many problems with this very short stay. There is a motel side to this property. It is not all cottages like the description has you believing. It says no pets allowed in the motel room as they call it and they do allow pets or should I say they turn there backs. It set off my allergies almost instantly. We left and stayed down the road at The Hinckleys cottages. No problems there. Anywhere on MDI is a good location! We saw a cockroach in the bathroom so bring your bug spray if you stay here. Also they would not give one night back even after arguing about the pets. The owner lied and said we used the pool which was ridiculous.
We were very uneasy about taking a vacation this year because of COVID. We finally decided to head up to Bar Harbor/Acadia as long as we could find a cabin or motel type of property with separate entrances and more ability to distance. The Colony did just that. Our cabin served it's purpose and the staff was outstanding. It might have been a bit dated (and the shower was small) but for the price, we couldn't have asked for more. The staff did not come into the cabin until after we checked out. If we needed new towels or sheets or needed the trash emptied, we left it on the front porch and they replaced it all pre-packaged. Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay at the Colony. They made us feel more confident in our decision during these uncertain times.
This was my trip staying in a cottage and I was pleasantly surprised how much room we had. We stayed for two nights in cottage # 5. Lots of room, very clean and updated. The kin size bed was very comfortable. The location is absolutely great to see the sunrise. The entrance to the Acadia National Park is only 1/2 mile. Across the the street from the cottage is also an outstanding restaurant. After we left we talked about our stay and must say that staying at the Colony Cottage is very quit and a bit away from the tourist area at Bar Harbor. I must say again Thank you to the ownership to let us stay here.
