Great location, beautiful grounds, quiet, spotless and good breakfast. The room was big with a TV, dorm refrigerator, desk and chair. A full size bathroom. Outdated decor, but very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful with the area. A nice place to relax. Visit the gift shop while you're there.

This is a hidden jewel. Walking distance to downtown, very quiet and beautiful grounds. The prices are very reasonable and the rooms are spotless. 1970's decor (wood paneling, etc) but overall a small sacrifice for the price.

The lodging is on Monastery grounds which are beautifully kept. The rooms are very basic but clean and reasonable. Staff is friendly and helpful. We enjoy the peacefulness of walking the grounds and having the beach only a short distance away. Would recommend this as a place to stay for families or travelers who are not into hotel chic.

This is on the grounds of an old Monastery. Rooms are basic but very clean and have all of what you need, AC, individual heating has been updated recently it seems, WiFi, Cable, etc. Over 40 acres with paths along the river. Easy walking .(or ride if you prefer) distance to Kennebunkport and to the Kennebunk Beach. Breakfast buffet is...

I did not know that this was actually a Monastery. However the accommodations were exactly what anyone needs when looking for a place to stay. The beds were comfortable, plenty of running hot water, tv, air conditioning. I have been in the Boston area for almost 2 weeks & this was a great affordable place compared to some of the...

The Franciscan Guest House is affordable, clean, and perfect for families. It's not fancy but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff are very hospitable and helpful. Maid service is not offered daily, but clean linens are always available. The building has been updated to include air conditioning and hotel-quality plumbing (no running out of hot water). We recommend...

There is no place on earth like the Franciscan Guest House! My husband and friends feel the same way about this hotel. We love the relaxing atmosphere, the grounds and many paths to the channel, the short walk or ride to the beach and to the heart of Kennebunkport. There is a trolley that we can take to learn about...

Yes there are nicer places but you will pay for them - about $200 a night more. If you can put up with a dated room this maybe for you if not don't stay here. Very nice people offering reasonable price for a room with breakfast. I would suggest that they rehab a couple of rooms at a time in...

This used to be a monastery but is no longer run by monks. The property used to be very nice with a real architect designed mansion but is now a run-down and quite tired collection of rooms/gueshouses. The non-profit status keeps this place in business, plus its proximity to downtown Kennebunkport. (walking distance). We stayed for one night, a Saturday.The...

The Franciscan Guest House was at one time a Lithuanian boarding school for boys run by Franciscan Monks. The buildings on the grounds therefore all date back to this time period, which is also why a majority of the rooms are quaint and contain the essentials. For a hotel the Guest House has the best location, a 10 minute walk...
