We stayed at hidden pond the first week of September with the family (2 kids and 2 adults) in their tree lodge. Its an absolutely beautiful property. We loved the rooms, bathrooms (outdoor shower too), porches (screened in), toiletries, small kitchen area with coffee/tea, and juices. It was a bit chilly in the evenings and loved having several fireplaces to cozy up next to, as well as the heating units.

We are fairly independent travelers and did not mind the lack of housekeeping. They were pretty responsive by text for anything you might need (towels, taking away trash bags from your front door etc)

The bikes were nice and we did use them around the property, although they should fix up or invest in a few more kids bikes as the chain kept on coming off the bike for our 9 year old. The ability to use the tides beach club was key to enjoying the beach, the pool was very nice, but cold even though heated, and fire pits around the property for the stores kit provided was a nice added touch.

The frittata and coffee cake on arrival were great, but at this price point I would have expected something similar each day or at least every other day. I don't think COVID could be used as an excuse as they are willing to deliver dinner from their restaurant.

Overall though this is our type of property, quiet and serene! We would definitely return one day.

First trip to Kennebunkport. Loved Hidden Pond. We were in a brand new Tree Top Lodge cottage. Incredible decor that immediately gets you in the mood to live and appreciate the natural beauty of the forest. Space and privacy. We were two couples and loved the bedrooms separated by a sitting room space. The screened in porches are just lovely for working or reading. They think of everything from cozy throws, s’mores and books by Thoreau. Small garden where you can cut your own flowers for your room! Bathrooms were brand new and adored the outside shower with the trees as your canopy. Excellent toiletries. The restaurant Earth was also superb with a variety of seating options. Our massages were also top notch. Having access to Tides Beach Club gave us the best of both worlds as we loved to sit in the cheery yellow chairs watching the ocean.
Downside: May have been due to Covid but there was no housekeeping or room service. You have to go off property for breakfast and lunch. No bar area to grab a drink to go. You had to empty your own wastebasket and towels and they would drop off water. First day they did not supply the coffee cake and then we asked for it and got it the last day. It was delicious and we made coffee in the room. However a bit inconvenient with no room service or other food choices for breakfast or lunch without a formal kitchen. Better safe than sorry so small price to pay during these times. Would have also liked more information in advance of our stay regarding activities on and off property.
Restaurants we loved off property - Nunans Lobster, Hurricane, Rocooco Ice Cream, Mornings in Paris and Port Lobster.
Shopping: Check out Local Color for unique gifts and clothing for all! Snug Harbor Nursery is magical.
Activities: We did a private morning sail on the Pinneaple Ketch. Also loved the Forest Bathing walk at Hidden Pond with Jeanne Christie!!! Surfing on Gooch. All fishing charters were booked so plan ahead if you are a fisherwoman or fisherman.

Dear rdkflk, Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay at Hidden Pond. It sounds like you were really able to enjoy your time at the resort as well as Kennebunkport! Thank you for your high remarks on Earth as well as our sister property the Tides Beach Club. Covid restrictions and regulations made for a different offering this past season at Hidden Pond and our team did a wonderful job at maneuvering through these tough times, we can only hope that the next season will have back to our “normal” paces where we can welcome you and your family to our amazing property! Cheers, Justin Grimes Managing Director

We stayed at Hidden Pond for our mini-honeymoon. This was a perfect vacation spot if you are looking to interact with very few people.

The resort: We stayed in one of the bungalows, and it was very well appointed and just very cute. We also appreciated the outdoor shower. The property is very well maintained, and we enjoyed hanging out at the serenity pool (which was heated and never crowded during our stay) and walking along the nature trail. Bikes were provided, and we also enjoyed riding them to the beach.

Food: We did miss the daily breakfast delivery, which was suspended due to Covid, but they provided a quiche, yogurts, and coffee in our room. They also provided a smores kit, which we were sure to use at the smores pits on site. We dined outdoors at Earth one night, and the meal was amazing! The prime ribeye, donuts, chocolate torte, and cavatelli are all highly recommended. It was very cold the night that we were there, so I wish they would have provided more heaters. Room delivery from Earth is free, so we took advantage of that as well. Unfortunately, it's not offered for breakfast or lunch service though. Takeout from Tides Beach Club was also a solid option. Because of Covid, the bars at the pool areas were shut down, which is unfortunate because it would have been nice to enjoy some drinks by the pool during the day.

Spa: I enjoyed a massage at the Tree Spa. I believe my masseuse was Kaia. She worked some magic...I didn't realize I needed a massage that bad. It is not cheap, but I would highly recommend it if you are looking to treat yourself. It can be charged directly to your room, and I booked my appointment the day prior.

Service: I really appreciated the ease of texting guest services whenever we needed some toilet paper or a trash pickup. They were usually very quick to respond. I did call the overnight service once because another car was parked in our bungalow's driveway when we returned home one evening. Luckily, the owners of the car had just finished their meal at Earth and were coming back to their car. Apparently, the restaurant had told them to park in our driveway? I do wish that guest services had communicated with us more before our stay to let us know what to expect. They sent a couple of texts shortly before our trip, but that was it. We arrived late in the evening, so someone was nice enough to show us to our bungalow.

Overall, I very much enjoyed our stay at Hidden Pond. I deducted a star mostly due to the high price and the lack of some amenities due to Covid.

We take pride in knowing you were able to enjoy the entire property, spa and Earth restaurant. Hidden Pond is an amazing resort. My husband and I have stayed at Hidden Pond since they first opened. We book our trip for the following year at checkout.

This year we decided that we would not book next year’s stay. Unfortunately the price increase does not justify the stay. The past several years have been disappointing. The staff does not check on the little things that can be frustrating. This year there was no soap in the shower dispenser. Yes, I know this is minor but Hidden Pond has always been very meticulous about the little things.

The so called spa consists of two small rooms right next to each other. It is not a relaxing experience as it is not quiet. I have used their spa twice in all the years of my stay. I booked a spa appointment for a second time hoping for a more relaxing experience - no change.

My final complaint is breakfast. When Hidden Pond first opened we received breakfast every morning - one hot and one cold food item each. For example, a warm croissant and an orange plus amazing coffee. The last several years we received one item each - muffin or croissant and coffee. This last year we we lucky to get one muffin to split between the two of us. We were flabbergasted. At first we thought it was a mistake, but each breakfast had one item to split. My husband mentioned it to management and there was no comment. For the price, breakfast should be included. Perhaps this was the resort’s way of encouraging us to use their restaurant (Earth) for breakfast at an exhorbitant price. The little general store that was on premises closed so we could not walk over and buy something to add to our meager meal.

My husband and I will be at Kennebunkport in 2020, but sadly our stay will not be at Hidden Pond.

Thank you for your review, Juliewoo12. We are appreciative of your support over the years and are very sorry to hear that your last experience with us did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide all guests with a wonderful experience while visiting Kennebunkport, and it is disappointing to learn that we have let you down. I couldn’t agree more that the ‘little things’ do mean so much! Delivering exceptional service with refined attention to detail is one of our team’s top priorities, and we can understand your frustration with not having the soap dispenser refilled in addition to the discouraging morning delivery of coffee, pastry, and newspaper. Not receiving two pastries in the morning was certainly an unacceptable oversight and should have been immediately addressed with your husband when he mentioned it to our team. We are also disheartened that your experience at the Tree Spa was not the tranquil atmosphere you had hoped for. This upcoming season, we will be expanding our spa services by offering in-room massages. We can only hope that this new option will provide our guests with a more serene and relaxing experience—and one of comfort. As one of our frequent and long-established guests, your candor with your review is greatly appreciated. We do hope that you consider giving us another chance to experience an improved Hidden Pond, and I would be honored to assist you with a reservation if you would join us again for the upcoming season. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly should you reconsider. Thanks again for your honest review. Kind regards, Kristen Caouette kristen@hiddenpondmaine.com

Overall our stay was great! Earth was fantastic for dinner, but breakfast needs help. The Bungalows for two need some updating. For the price point you would expect a little nicer furniture, everything was very worn. We enjoyed Yoga every morning and the staff was very accommodating. The adult pool chairs can also use a refresh and the pool was a little dirty.

I stayed here with a few friends so that we could have a woodsy getaway, while still having access to Kennebunkport. It completely re-set me to be in such beautiful and quiet setting away from the city.

I really liked staying in a the bungalow which gave us a much more private experience outside of a traditional hotel. What I liked most were the little screened porches connected to the rooms. The porches are perfectly private for some "me" time, reading a book and listening to the trees. Being in the city for a while made me forget how valuable pure silence really is; just the rustling of the trees. The outdoor shower connected right to the bathroom was definitely something I underestimated, and I ended up using it every day. It was super refreshing.

Riding the bikes throughout the property was very cute and fun, it made us feel like we could just stay on the property the whole time. Earth is such an amazing spot and feels super elevated. It can be hard to get a reservation, though, which can be a little frustrating. Just plan ahead and make a reservation in advance or ask the resort to help. Even if you have a cocktail by the pool you can still enjoy it.

Excited to return next summer.

What a unique and refreshing experience! Hidden Pond is a truly Hidden Gem very near Kennebunkport. While the resort is not walking distance from town, the location allows for complete isolation and tranquility. We were blown away by the size of the resort, the beautiful New England architecture and the incredibly kept grounds. While our stay was short, we were able to experience quite a bit of the resort. We took the complimentary bikes around (that were left waiting outside our cottage upon arrival), exploring the main lodge, tree top cottages, gardens, various ponds, etc.

Our cottage was exquisite. We were in 45 Dilly Dally (all are named cute, fun names like that) and had a beautiful, relaxing screened in porch. Through the sliding glass doors we had a sitting area stocked with fridge, microwave, some complimentary snacks and eating utensils, plus books and games. There is also a beautiful electric fireplace with a timer. Our bed was comfortable and the temp in the room was perfect. I slept better than I did the entire vacation during our stay at Hidden Pond. The bathroom is
beautiful and stocked with Malin + Goetz products (amazing) but the outdoor shower really sealed the deal for me. So relaxing and beautiful!

Our stay was punctuated with an incredible meal at Earth. We had the 4 course tasting and it was our best meal of the trip. We closed the place down enjoying conversation with a table next to ours sitting on the beautiful screened in porch and enjoying the twinkly lights and fire pits overlooking the nearby pond. Could not have been more relaxed or at peace.

Thank you Hidden Pond for such a unique experience and enjoyable stay!

We stayed at this property for a friends wedding and I am appalled with how terrible their service was for how much they charge for the rooms. From the moment we got there we had nothing but issues. We arrived early on Friday and because it was before check in we decided to do drinks and lunch by the pool. It took us almost 30 mins just to be waited on at the bar for us to then be told that they lost the key to the bar and had minimal
options for alcohol. They never came around to get us more drinks, we had to go up to them to ask for
more and then when we went to order they told us the kitchen closed 10 mins ago at 2pm. It would have been nice for them to tell us! This same service was a theme throughout the rehearsal dinner and wedding itself. I ordered from Earth at the rehearsal the same sparkling wine 3 times and each time had to send it back because it was the wrong one. Our other issue was when we called about checking into our rooms the women told me she had no update and took my number and said “they might call you about your room”. The only bright spot was the bartender at the wedding. Absolutely a horrible experience and I would not recommend.

This is a very nice place, but why add a $35/day resort fee to a $3000/day room? Or a $100 “administrative fee” to cancel a reservation two months in advance. It’s mean-spirited and greedy. If it’s really necessary, build it into the room rate so people don’t feel nickel and dimed when they’re spending a smal fortune to stay here.

Dear Joan, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience about your recent stay at Hidden Pond. While I am glad to know that you enjoyed your stay, I am sorry to hear that your stay was made less enjoyable by the charges on your bill. We do our very best to be transparent about our rates and fees from the beginning of the booking process so that our guests know exactly what they will be asked to pay for their stay at our beautiful resort. Shoutout to the staff at Hidden Pond, especially Corey, who texted us helpful guidance about the area and hand delivered a GF breakfast pastry to me one morning when it was forgotten in the hustle of delivering breakfast to each bungalow. The staff here are incredibly friendly and many stopped in their tracks to greet us when we were exploring the property or assist us if we looked lost. We stayed in a bungalow and wanted to live there it was so beautiful! Screened in front porch with fireplace, high ceilings, and beautiful bathroom - complete with outdoor shower if you prefer. There was an amazing restaurant on the premises and my husband and I enjoyed the heated pools and nightly s’mores. I attended yoga with Jennifer and it was perfection! I would highly recommend for a couples getaway or even a family reunion or experience. Kennebunkport is a 10 minute drive but they do have transportation after Memorial Day. And we rode the provided bikes to goose island beach - had the most amazing day as our sunburns can attest. It was a dream and we are so grateful! Thanks HP!!

Probably best to be in a cottage. The bungalows are on the other side of the resort with the adults only pool. The cottages are on the "family" side with the farm, lodge and kiddie pool.

I’d consider either Portland or Manchester Regional (MHT) in New Hampshire about 1.5 hours from Hidden Pond. We found better rates to MHT than Portland and MHT is a much easier airport to get in and out of than Logan (BOS) which is a similar distance away from Hidden Pond.

Hard to see how you can navigate Hidden Pond area without a car. You need a ride just to get from the check in to your cottage! (Which they will provide). I would suggest trying Uber, renting a car or taxi.

Hi 2_of_us_ontheroad, I'm delighted to hear that you're interested in celebrating such a special occasion at Hidden Pond! The end of July is a great time to visit Maine as you will be able to enjoy everything that the resort and the state itself has to offer. Hidden Pond is nestled within 60-wooded acres about 10 minutes outside of downtown Kennebunkport and only a half-mile from Goose Rocks Beach. For the more actively minded, we have complimentary bicycles that you can use to ride around the property or take over to the beach and two pools that you can enjoy. While at the beach you can also rent paddle boards and kayaks! With a quick visit to the lodge, the Front Desk team will be able to provide you with directions to the best hiking trails around.
