Nestled in the heart of Kennebunkport, the Captains Collection hotel is lauded by guests for its fusion of historic elegance and modern luxury. The well-appointed amenities, including cozy fireplaces and a quality breakfast, contribute to its comforting atmosphere. Beautiful B&B in historic buildings, but with modern features. Perfectly located in a quiet part of town that is walking distance to main commercial area. Well worth the 5 stars. Also appreciated their environmental use of refillable bath soap/shampoo bottles rather than small plastic bottles. Breakfast was also delicious.

Stayed here for our 3rd visit recently & it was just as nice as we remembered. Each time we have stayed in the winter months but in a different rm. This time we stayed in the Oriental rm on the first floor front corner. It was very quiet due to the front door not being able to be an entrance (it was roped off outside & inside) & the staircase up to the 2nd floor outside our room was also roped off. This room probably has more light from the outside lights (that illuminate the mansion from the street) than probably any other room; I personally would've liked the room darker but I still slept soundly. The breakfast is delicious & homemade. A nice touch is the coffee/tea/cider & treats (cheese & crackers, small blueberry pastry snacks) that are out for guests in the afternoon. The "welcome back" cookies & small bottle of champagne in our room was a nice surprise that I had forgotten about! The staff is always pleasant & make you feel like family. The 1 thing I could mention to make the checkin process seamless is on your website, it would be helpful to have a place to put a gift card number or dollar amount in, so that staff will know not to charge the credit card the whole price. There was no way to book on-line with a gift card & when I called they said they would have to cancel my reservation & do it over the phone & just deduct the gift certificate amount. It all worked out but if guests can put their gift card in their on-line reservation, that would be great. Thank you!

We stayed at the Nathaniel Lord Mansion in the Nathaniel Lord suite, the room is the size of many homes. It is stunning they have done a lot of updates, that looses some of the history charm. Conversely it is beautiful, and very large. The breakfast is not anything great, some greek yogurt with a variety of toppings, one hot dish, and some not so ripe fruit. They allow the other three homes connected to this to eat in the Lord Mansion, which makes it very tight in the dining room and sometime guest of the home don't have space to eat. Currently having to ask to have housekeeping services is a bit uncomfortable, however I understand with COVID hopefully they will change this. The town is not a fan of the Lark Inc coming in and buying up these houses so I would not tell the locals where your staying, or you get a ear full. These were the least friendly staff on our journey in New England, maybe because its a corporation, not sure. I did ask a few staff if they were treated well, and all of them reported no, and were looking for other work, this may be why the atmosphere was different for us, however I still gave it a 4, overall its a place to stay in once, due to the beauty. The last day we did see people riding bikes and then heard we could have had access to this also, however we were never told and the bikes were stored at another house.

Having had three different hotel experiences in Maine during Covid this past week, I wanted to share impressions for those considering traveling at this time to Captain Lord Mansion. The good news is that the place is highly covid compliant, the beds are super comfortable and the air conditioning in the rooms quiet and highly effective so getting a good nights sleep is not a problem. Having said that, of the places we stayed, all four and five star, this is the one place that you feel like Covid has provided them an excuse to do as little as possible for their guests. No attempt at room service which they say is Maine regulations, rooms lack basic items like water bottles, bathroom amenities are befitting a holiday inn and not a B and B with these rates. Moreover, any requests for these and other items is met with a tone of condescension and exasperation as if you were asking for outrageous things. All of these would be acceptable but for the rates they charged. In effect, you are paying full price for discount service. Finally, while the rooms are clean, just know going in that the decor in each of the 5 rooms we stayed in is quite eclectic and in many cases bizarre.

We had an excellent one night stay at the Captain Fairfield Inn. Our room was lovely and clean. Check in was easy, and we had everything we needed in our room. The house was lovely with lots of common space for guests. Breakfast was included, but because of the pandemic it was delivered to our room instead of eaten in a common space. The breakfast that arrived was delicious! The location of this inn was great - within walking distance of the main street with lots of shops, restaurants, and water views! We will certainly stay here again when we return to Kennebunkport!

This place was once the greatest place we’ve ever stayed. It was warm and cozy and there were amenities at every turn. It makes me so sad to say, but it’s now cold and dark and corporate. We came on our honeymoon a few years ago and have been back for almost every subsequent anniversary. This is our first time coming since Lark took over and I’m sad to say it will definitely be our last. We stayed in room 28 (used to be Champion). If you knew this as the Captain Lord and are thinking it will be the same, it’s NOT. Run don’t walk and book somewhere else. When we got to our room, there was a broken chair leg (see picture). Everything was very dark and seemed unfinished. There was one picture hanging above the mantle and a smaller one just leaning against the wall (see picture). It was just strange. The bathroom doorknob was also broken (see picture). But the most annoying thing by far was that they had wallpapered over a window to the hallway right in front of our bed. At night, it was SO bright that my husband had to hang a robe over it and that didn’t even cover all of it. Beds were not super comfortable. No other pillows in the closet or anywhere. I prefer a firm pillow and there were only giant very soft ones. This may all seem nitpicky but if you ever went here when it was not owned by Lark, you’ll understand what I’m saying. I’ve noticed the common response from Lark to people on here that are critical of Nathaniel Lord is to say that it’s “the most opulent house in the collection”. So before you say that, our problem is not with opulence, it’s that you’ve ruined what WAS opulent and rushed it at that. The only redeeming thing was that the bathroom floors are still heated and the bathtub was wonderful. Breakfast was skimpy and nothing like it used to be. Next time you buy your next slew of hotels, maybe take the time to ask the former guests what it is they love about the property before you change everything. We would have expressed all of this at the end of our stay, but upon checkout today, my husband wasn’t even asked how our stay was. Just “where are you headed next”.

Hi Lily, We appreciate you and your husband visiting us for your anniversary getaway, and we’re sorry that our renovations weren’t what you’d had in mind. While many of our guests have raved about the new design of Nathaniel Lord Mansion, we understand if our style is not to your taste, and we regret that we fell short of winning you over. We’ve made note of your feedback, and we thank you again for sharing your point of view so that we can continue to elevate the guest experience. Wishing you the best!

My husband and I just returned from a glorious 3 night stay at the Jefferds House in room 7 (studio suite). Our room was spacious with its own seating area and cozy gas fireplace. The entire inn was newly renovated as evident by the faint smell of fresh paint. It was beautifully designed in modern decor of white and neutrals. The sunny breakfast room was clean, bright, and well appointed. Each dish was neatly displayed in saran wrapped dishes (very Covid conscious). The light breakfast was delicious and a great start to our days exploring Kennebunkport. Staff was very hospitable and friendly. We felt so comfortable and well taken care of. We will certainly be back!

We actually stayed in the Acton Patterson House for 2 nights. My wife, our 3 daughters, and our future son-in-law were attending a family member’s wedding in Kennebunkport at a nearby resort. My wife and I love small boutique resorts which include breakfasts so we booked with the Kennebunkport Captains Collection. During the initial call when I made the reservation, the person with whom I spoke suggested that I book all 4 rooms in the Acton Patterson House so my family could enjoy the entire house to ourselves.

When we got to the House, my middle daughter, who works in luxury travel, exclaimed that I had outdone myself and this was the best place I had ever booked for the entire family. I wholeheartedly agree with her assessment.

The people who take care of the Collection were all just terrific; they were friendly and helpful.

The entire House where we stayed was clean, the kitchen well stocked, and the rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable. The beds were comfy. The House was air conditioned and there were gas fireplaces in both the bedrooms and public spaces of the House. As it turned out, the AC came in quite handy as it was quite warm outside during our stay.

Parking is onsite and free. The grounds are well kept and attractive. They even have a small putting green.

The Collection is centrally located and an easy walk to the shops and restaurants of Kennebunkport. Even a walk to Walker’s Point and the Bush compound is relatively easy.

The breakfasts are served in the Lord Mansion and guests have their choice of eating outside or in the Mansion. We took the hot portion of our breakfasts back to the Patterson House where we enjoyed them on the screened porch. Coffee, tea, granola, fruit, and pastries were all available in our House. They even had almond milk.

And I would be remiss if I failed to mention the availability of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies starting around 2:30 in the afternoon at the Lord Mansion. I found the cookies to be very good and enjoyed them both days of our stay.

Needless to say, if I ever visit Kennebunkport in the future, this will be the place I will stay.

Our room in the Nathaniel Lord Mansion was charming and comfortable. The breakfast items (as well as the chocolate chip cookies) were wonderful. The staff, for the most part, were professional and diligent
Housekeeping/cleanliness, however, was another matter. Our room was, quite frankly, dirty in several areas. When you pay well over $700 a night on 2 of the 3 nights of your stay (up from almost $450 on the other one) you expect and deserve better than dirt and dust bunnies all over the floor, beneath the commode, etc. And trying to get the room clean posed its own problems. One day we went out to explore at about 9:00 AM and made a point of notifying the desk that the room was available for cleaning, and that the toilet wouldn’t flush. When we returned around 2:30, the lady at the desk told us that the toilet was working. Upon climbing up to our room we were amazed to find that it was still untouched. When we told the desk they grabbed a young woman who was on her way out the door and who had to agree to stay past her shift to “refresh” the room. When we finally got back in there it was, as noted above, still awash in dust.
Finally, we - and other guests - were traversing the stairway one day only to discover, fortunately, that the woman vacuuming the area had the vacuum cord stretched taut across one of the steps at a height of @ 2 inches: a recipe for disaster as we pointed out to her.
For the kind of money we paid to stay here, that aspect of things was a major disappointment.

The Nathaniel Lord Manson is in the perfect location for walking every where around Kennebunkport They have plenty of parking if you come by car, checking in was easy, the staff are all cheerful, and very helpful. The room was old world charm, with a nice couch, table, big tv, we turned on once, nice large shower, a big bed, a wine cooler, with a cork screw, a safe, two nice bathrobes, and adjustable air too. The sitting room with cozy tables and chairs downstairs had calming light jazz music, and a fireplace was the perfect place for breakfast each morning. I thought each breakfast was well thought out and cooked close to perfect. I thought it was outstanding everyday we were there. The young women who was is their chef was so nice, very personable, and knew her breakfast recipes which are set to please. Coffee and cold drinks were always available, along with fresh chocolate chip cookies and a fruit selection throughout most of the days we were there. The first day we arrived I asked for a dinner recommendation that had a nice wine list. The first restaurant one of their reception room staff recommended was, The Little White Barn. It was the perfect choice for us. A very nice wine list, and nice fish. Great! I would return!
