The Nonantum Resort garners praise for its inviting atmosphere, complete with classic charm and live music, as well as its spotless cleanliness and well-maintained grounds. Guests appreciate the family-friendly activities, exceptional breakfast, and stunning views among the amenities. While some travelers find the hotel's rates steep and question the value, the prime location near Kennebunkport and local attractions, along with the personalized service from friendly staff, often compensate for the cost. However, a few guests have mentioned issues with room soundproofing and maintenance.

This was our first vacation since the covid19 shutdown. We stayed at the Nonantum for 4 nights and couldn't have had a better experience. We stayed in a portside king room which had a walkout and beautiful view of the lighthouse and river in the distance. My only complaint about the room is that the unit above was very noisy as the floors were a bit creaky. But other than this, we felt very safe. The staff took the time to disinfect and constantly wipe down outdoor furniture. Breakfast was included, it was served at stations behind plexiglass with staff taking all the proper precautions. Our first night we dined at 95 Ocean in a private cabana on the river. It was very romantic and meals were delicious accompanied by nightly live music. If you just want to relax in the adirondack chairs and listen to music that was available nightly too. One night we did smores by a private fire pit for our anniversary. We took a kayak for a paddle down the river. The week could not have been better. Recommendations have been given to our friends and family! Can't wait to go back. Please check them out

Thanks for coming to celebrate your anniversary with us! Our lovely cabanas are the site of many, many anniversary celebrations (including my own!) The food, service and ambiance are simply amazing! Our s'mores fire pits are another pivot we have made that has been met with lots of enthusiasm! Each family rents their own fire pit and we build the fire, bring you a s'mores kit and clean up afterwards. Stop by the nearby bar for an nightcap to enjoy by the fire and you have the perfect ending to a perfect day! Thanks for sharing your recommendation with your friends and family! We really appreciate it! Warmly, Jean Ginn Marvin Innkeeper

My wife and I took our first steps into the world of hotels this week. Like many others in Maine and accross the Country we have been keeping our distance from people, wearing masks and generally staying home to protect ourselves from the Coronavirus.

Our first tentative step was to the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. And I have to say, it was the BEST choice! Of all the businesses we have visited during the pandemic the Nonantum management and staff have set a very high bar. We were reminded throughout our stay of how serious they are taking the health and safety of their guests!
Signage was clear throughout the facility that distancing, masks and hand washing were not only encouraged, but required by all staff and guests. Food service was handled impeccably, and dining was outside by the water in private Cabanas.
The breakfast seating was handled similarly although inside with 8 to 10 feet between tables.
The key way to our room had a note in it assuring us that our room had been completely sanitized. When we entered our room it was clear that it was super clean. Fresh plastic covered all glasses and surfaces we touched and that gave us further confidence that the environment was as safe as possible!
When we take our next foray into the world of travel...The Nonantum Resort will be high on our places to stay list!
A stay at the Nonantum is good for the soul, it’s as simple as that! If you are planning a trip in south coastal Maine, do yourself and book a stay at the Nonantum, you won’t regret it‼️

Hello Gary: Thanks so much for noticing and appreciating all our hard work! The staff here has been working on protocols all spring in anticipation of summer and across the board people agree that they have done a fantastic job! Team Nonantum helped lead the charge in the creation of the Kennebunkport Promise (a document our entire town has signed on to committing to keep everyone safe) Our outdoor dining room is incredibly popular. We have an outdoor kitchen and bar as well so everything is completely transparent. The food is delish and there are some wonderful specialty cocktails (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) Please come back and see us again soon! All The Best, Jean Ginn Marvin Innkeeper

We enjoyed our stay at the Nonantum Resort. We stayed in a Queen ocean view room in the port side building on the 3rd floor and found it peaceful to wake up to the river/ocean view in the morning. We did not have any issues with noise from other rooms. The room itself was very clean and had what we needed. The bathroom is modern and not much bigger than a cruise ship bathroom. There were not housekeeping services when we stayed. We were able to get extra towels from the front desk as ours were not drying on their own. The WiFi was very very slow in the room.

We liked the included breakfast enough and it certainly is a step up from chain hotel breakfasts. There was a hot part and a continental part as well as make your own toast and cereal. Everything was served to you from the hot bar and pasty area. The fruit, toast and pastries were quite good. The eggs were a massive lump of hard scrambled eggs. We chose to eat out on our third morning.

The grounds are very pretty with beautiful hydrangeas blooming. We wish there would have been the mini bon fires available on the weekend. I did not quite understand why they put them all away. Lots of Adirondack chairs to sit in with a place for the mini fire but we saw them packing them all up on Friday morning.

We enjoyed the pool one day and had good drinks and nachos from Latitudes. The pool was clean and the lounge chairs were good quality. We sat in some wicker chairs by their little light house on our last evening and watched the boats come and go. It was relaxing.

The shuttle service was great and on time.

So, all in all, we had a nice stay. But we also paid for our most expensive room of the year at over $450 per night. With this price tag, you really would hope for good WiFi, and daily cleaning services. I understand about COVID but then maybe the price could be brought down a tad if guests are not receiving full treatment. It’s a big perk when you’re vacationing to have cleaning services. If people are vaccinated, it is okay for them to enter the rooms to do a quick towel change, bed making and trash empty. The weekends were more expensive at this resort but then it seemed like some amenities (ocean 95 dining, the bon fires) were taken away on the weekend.

Hello Vermont Travelers: Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding your recent visit to The Nonantum Resort. Our grounds are certainly very beautiful this time of year. Our gardening team works so hard to make sure all of our guests can enjoy all that mother nature has to offer (with a little assistance from our team) :-) I am so sorry your internet service was not satisfactory. I wish we had known about your WiFi issues as occasionally we need to reset our system. I am certain we could have easily made an adjustment that would have resulted in a much better experience for you. As far as pricing is concerned, much like the airlines, many hotels base their pricing on how many rooms they have available. If there are lots of rooms available, prices are lower. On weekends there are very few rooms available and therefore prices are higher. We are unable to accommodate fire pits while a wedding is going on as it is not fair to either the wedding, or the fire pit participants. Open flames and crowds just are not a great combination! I am so sorry that was a disappointment for you. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out. Your points are well taken and we will continue to try our hardest to meet the needs of all of our guests. Kind Regards, Jean

The location for Nonantum is a decent walk from the busy center of town, the view of the river was serene and the air conditioning is extremely functional, but those are the only positives worth mentioning. Unfortunately, the way the property is configured amplifies the noise from the extremely busy pool and common areas reducing the peace and serenity of the water views. The rather depressing dining room feels more like that of a rest-home than a hotel resort. The beds are very soft and bouncy, making it tough to get a decent night's sleep and the WiFi was abysmally slow regardless of time of day. The rooms are decent. Nothing special, very ordinary amenities, very well worn towels with moderate water pressure. There are plenty of better options in Kennebunkport that are more worth the $$.

Hello! I am so very sorry that The Nonantum Resort was simply not your cup of tea! I suspect much of your dissatisfaction stems from our strict adherence to Covid rules. In keeping to CDC guidelines we have removed anything that could be touched by another guest so much of the nautical decor items have been removed both from rooms as well as the dining room. We also have moved half the tables out of the dining room to allow for proper social distancing at breakfast, which I agree makes our dining room feel a bit sparse. Again my apologies that your time at The Nonantum was not a happy time. Sincerely, Jean Ginn Marvin Innkeeper

We have visited the Nonantum at least once a year for the past 15 years. We missed last year due to the pandemic. Fully vaccinated, we decided to venture out again. We learned that our rooms would not be services until after 3 days, and we would have to specifically request this service after a 3 day stay, “due to the pandemic.” It was not a problem for us, just 2 adults, but I imagine that for families with young children, it would be more difficult, dirty towels, food waste, sand etc. would make the rooms more difficult to clean for the housekeeping staff. The evening dining services are suspended, so options for food consist of limited menu at poolside dining, or a few tables that require reservations in outdoor tent options. The staff at the Nonantum are fantastic, but apparently have not had a raise in a while. Paying $470 a night ( rate with taxes and fees) for an uncomfortable queen size bed with limited space seems excessive. You may do better to look for a vacation rental by owner.

I am so sorry to hear that your visit to The Nonantum did not meet your expectations. As you may have heard the pandemic ravaged the hospitality industry like no other. Covid has not gone away and we are constantly vigilant when creating policy to be sure that our guests as well as our staff are kept as safe as possibly. As of this season, we do not service rooms for folks who stay less than 3 nights (this covers the vast majority of our visitors) There are three major reasons why: First of all most of our guests do not want anyone in their room. (We of course can remove trash left outside the door and deliver clean towels, extra toiletries etc as needed). Secondly, as a environmentally friendly hotel, it flies in the face of our stated commitment to sustainability to change towels and bedding on a daily basis. Finally, it is very challenging to find Housekeepers on a nationwide basis. I am sorry to hear that you were under the impression that we do not have evening dining services. We actually have an additional dining outlet this year (Latitudes) in addition to the 95 Ocean and Heckman's options. Latitudes is incredibly popular as it is outside and has magnificent views and a fun delicious menu. I also am curious why you would think that our staff has not had a raise in a while? As you very correctly noted we have a fantastic staff. As I have always maintained, the staff is indeed what makes the Nonantum the popular place it is and The Nonantum Resort has regularly been named a Best Places To Work in Maine. Waterview resorts in Kennebunkport are not inexpensive places to stay (particularly in summer) and with the unprecedented crowds every property in town is experiencing, prices are higher than in the past. After the significant financial losses last year as well as the skyrocketing costs of payroll, food and other supplies, we have been forced to raise our rates. Please know we will do our very best to ensure that your time at The Nonantum is a great value for dollars spent. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Sincerely, Jean

Situated 3/4 of a mile from the village center and a half mile from the beach, the inn offers both a pastoral retreat on the bay as well as access to restaurants and shops in the village. Boating is also convenient since several
boat tours dock at the inn.

The major consideration for travelers is that the inn boasts a considerable wedding/event business. On its part, the inn is transparent with the noise from such gatherings and they provide earplugs as well as sound machines in rooms to somewhat address this issue since room walls are paper thin and large window and doors increase the audibility of noises.

But noise is not the only issue. Inn personnel are observed rushing about to set up the events with the movement of chairs and tables, planting of flowers, and setting up
catering. An added problem is the service area is in plain view of the main inn/ dining room with service person and service cars working in that area throughout the day. As an inn guest you feel the harried pace. It’s as if you arrived BEFORE the party instead of AT the party. What’s lost is a sense that you are “away from it all” in a place that focuses on you the traveler. One feels as if the event guests are a priority over the inn guests.

The exception to this is the dining room. The
inn offers a complementary full breakfast to guest who book a room through them. The breakfast is well prepared with the highlight being gourmet bakery items. The hospitality staff in the dining room is top notching and makes you feel as if your enjoyment of the dining experience is of utmost importance to them. An added touch of class are the afternoon cookies offers at the hotel registration counter that have the words “thank you” written across them.

An areas to enhance would be the registration process. Verbal information on amenities would be helpful at check-in. Although we were given a welcome brochure, we were not informed of breakfast nor of the local shuttle that stops near the inn. Also, no housekeeping was provided during our three night stay. Last, the inn offers an option to rent a fire pit with roasted marshmallows for $50. The fee for the fire pit (notwithstanding the marshmallows) was tasteless to us since we’ve been to many inns, hotels, and resorts that offer fire pits as part of their outdoor amenities.

Last, the room we selected was comfortable with an awesome view of the bay. We enjoyed the puffy pillows and strong shower head. The two chairs for sitting by the window/door provided another respite area in the room.

If location is important and you
enjoy the hustle and bustle of events, then this is a great place to stay.

Thanks so much for your well thought out response. As we continue to recover from the challenges COVID-19 threw our way, we are super busy. All of the weddings we had booked for last year moved to this year and we already had many events booked for this season. I don’t disagree, there is a lot of hustle and bustle going on, particularly on summer weekends. Add to that a new bar and grille that was weeks late in being completed (like everyone else we have had significant supply chain delays!) This meant our landscaping folks were delayed in putting our grounds back together. Fortunately we have a great team and everyone stepped up to the plate and got the job done. Our breakfast crew is amazing top to bottom. Instead of the afterthought many people give to breakfast, we make it a centerpiece, even though it is offered at no charge to anyone who books directly from us. Our private campfires require an up charge as the wood is incredibly expensive and we have a person assigned to set up the fire and chairs, and then clean up the sticky marshmallow sticks. Prior to Covid we had one complimentary campfire for everyone but our current belief is that most families are simply not ready to sit shoulder to shoulder with strangers. As the summer unfolds we may return to the one campfire for all plan. Like everything else we do, it is subject to change! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. Gratefully, Jean

We spent the last 3 nights of our 10 day Maine vacation at the Nonantum. After stops in Rockland and Portland, this hotel was our least favorite. After a beautiful drive down from Portland, we arrived on a Wednesday evening to find the hotel bustling. We had made arrangements to eat at the hotel's highly rated restaurant on the first night and rainy weather resulted in our outdoor table being moved indoors. The hotel notified us of this a few hours in advance, which was appreciated. We checked in and made our way to our room past the dining area and photos of Bush's whose family home is less than a mile away. The room was different than any I'd stayed in. It was sort of "shotgun" style with an entry into a sort of living room, followed by a bathroom and then the bedroom. The low ceiling had been retrofitted with exposed pipes for a sprinkler system years ago. It was cozy to have a fireplace in the room, but I don't think they are used anymore. When we saw earplugs provided on both bedside tables and a note saying how it's sometimes hard to get used to noise in a new place, we got worried. What noise? We're on a quiet street overlooking the water. Turns out, this is an extremely popular wedding venue and with COVID delaying plans, the place is hosting 2-3 weddings each weekend. During our stay, there were 3 - and they all took place in the courtyard outside our room. We enjoyed our dinner the first night despite being moved indoors, but found the dining area lacking in aesthetic. The place has been around a very long time and you can tell... it needs a lot of updates. While charming, it feels conservative and dated. The vibe is stuffy. The place trends decidedly older. As for the room, the mattress was extremely uncomfortable and we let the front desk know when we checked out (though no accommodation was made in the rate). While the hotel considers guests by enforcing quiet hours and cuts wedding events off about 10pm, we wish we'd known that this place was mostly a wedding venue at this point. It's certainly an easy walk from the hotel to the town shops and restaurants and is in a great location, but there are much better options for those just visiting and wanting to experience some luxury and pampering while on vacation.

Hello There Georgia Friend: Thanks so much for writing. It is always so interesting to hear a new point of view. Outdoor dining has been a huge hit at The Nonantum - so much so in fact reservations are really hard to come by. I am happy to hear that we were able to accommodate you but sorry to hear Mother Nature did not work with us that night. It surely was a summer of weather challenges! Fortunately the fabulous fall weather we have been experiencing has caused us to forget about the rainy days we experiences this summer. Like every other wedding venue it was indeed difficult to meet our bride and grooms needs for last year as well as this year in one summer. Regretfully we have had to host more than our fair share of weddings, but I truly feel that we have been respectful of wedding goers and non wedding goers. Many people love seeing the beautiful wedding party and often there was an impromptu dance party on our lawn as our other guests enjoyed the wedding bands. My sincere apologies that this was not your experience. I guess we will have to agree to disagree regarding your assessment of our décor. We do significant updates each and every year and while we do have a commitment to tradition, I would never describe us as stuffy! Thanks again for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. Sincerely, Jean

I chose the Nonantum Resort for a multigenerational trip to Kennebunkport and all ages were pleased with this choice. What initially attracted me to this resort was its location close to town and its activities for children. It is a nice walk into Kennebunkport but Nonantum also has shuttle service to town and to the beach which we did use several times.

From the very beginning until checkout, the staff was very welcoming and helpful. The reservation staff helped reserve multiple rooms for us and offered some suggestions regarding popular activities. We all had lovely rooms on the third floor of the Portside building. The rooms were spacious and while the bathrooms were not that large, they had a great shower and there were small shelves to store some items. The resort staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the staff at Camp Nonantum was great with the kids.

The food at the Nonantum was excellent. Breakfast is included with your room if you book directly with the hotel and it is well worth it. Nonantum has a pastry chef on staff who creates wonderful breakfast pastries. There were also wonderful egg dishes that changed daily in addition to the scrambled eggs that were offered every day. There were also pancakes, waffles & crepes depending on the day. We were there for a week, and it was a treat to get up every morning to see what was being offered that day. We also ate at Nonantum's Latitudes Restaurant and found it to be as good as the restaurants that we frequented in town. My sons ate lobster rolls at a variety of places and they deemed the one at Latitudes was the best.

Nonantum Resort was a perfect fit for our family. Highly recommended.

We love our multigenerational family groups as the Nonantum is uniquely qualified to take great care of these folks. There truly is something for everyone here! Our lobster roll is absolutely the best there is! I take one for the team each summer and check out the options offered by several other places and each year ours come out on top. My personal preference is hot butter but others love Chef Steve's lemon aioli. Fortunately there is a choice for everyone! The always rotating breakfast menu is of extreme interest to the staff as well as the guests. All the employees sit down for a Nonantum Family breakfast each morning and we all have our favorites. One thing is for sure - whatever there is will be delicious! Thanks so much for writing! Jean Ginn Marvin, Innkeeper

My husband and I stayed at the Nonantum from August 17 to August 20, attending a memorial service on August 18 for a dear friend at nearby St. Ann's Church. We had stayed at the Nonantum in 2012 when the friend's daughter was married and the reception and Sunday breakfast were held at the hotel. The room we requested, on the top floor with a water view, was what was awaiting us. It was clean and all protocols were being followed vis a vis the Corona virus threat: constant cleaning of elevators and other common areas, staff and guests in common areas all wearing masks. The breakfast (included) was excellent. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. (As there was no room service because of the virus, we needed to telephone for clean towels when needed, which were very promptly delivered.) The pool was open and there was a plentiful amount of seating on the lawns. Check in and check out were fast and easy. Highly recommended.

We stayed in a second floor corner King Premium Water View room with balcony. The view and balcony with chairs were excellent. The room itself was just ok. The bathroom was very small with walk in shower, slippery, and it only had a single sink with very small counter. The room had two nice chairs with small table which was nice to sit in front of the corner windows while sipping a glass of wine and enjoying the view. The room itself was just ok and decor was nothing special.

The lobby, dining room, and public areas in the main building were nice period spaces.

I am not a breakfast buffet person but they do an excellent job here. They had two servers behind plastic “shields” that plated the food so there wasn’t 300 people rummaging through all of the entrees. Lots of choices so should meet just about everyone’s taste.

All in all a nice stay.

Those corner rooms are so hard to come by! Everyone wants one and I can see why! Beautiful views from all directions! Our breakfast (which is complimentary if you book directly with us) is incredibly popular with guests of all ages. (I also am a non breakfast eater and will admit to feeling very tempted by the offerings here!) There truly is something for everyone. Please come back and see us again soon! There is an amazing November Special happening you might want to take advantage of! All The Best, Jean

Hello! We think Kennebunkport is a wonderful place to visit anytime of year! Team Nonantum has taken a hike every week all winter and we would be happy to share our routes! (Check out our Instagram Reels!) There are many terrific restaurants, bars, shops and galleries to visit downtown which is 6/10ths of a mile from us. We also have a variety of historical properties of interest, as well as multiple wonderful day trips. I would absolutely suggest you bring a car. Thanks for writing! Jean Ginn Marvin, Innkeeper

There are several restaurants within walking distance. But if you take the shuttle it will drop you in the middle of the center where the restaurants are.

We do not have a fitness center on site but there several nearby that you can purchase a day pass from. We do have kayaks, bikes and yoga classes as well as wonderful walking/running paths nearby as well.

I do not believe that the family rooms have a balcony. Most rooms in the hotel do not have a balcony. I would encourage you to call directly to ask about a preferred room because it’s unclear when booking on the website. Just an FYI, I noticed that the air conditioners are placed on balconies. You may want to check regarding the noise level for summertime when those would be used.
