We stayed there one night en route to Vermont. I read all the reviews before we booked, and looked at the pictures so we knew what to expect. It has been taken over by a French couple about 2 years ago. I was greeted by the owner, Virginie, who was delighted to speak In French with me. The units are as described by others but our bedside light was not working. She said they were having trouble getting trades people to come & fix things. So she went out and bought a brand new light. They have a lot of work to do on this motel. Our fridge was an antique model, without a door on the icebox but plenty of ice caked on! It certainly is value for money and although a step back in time, it was very clean. It was also near the road, but that did not trouble us. I do hope the new owners make a success of it & I wish them well. It’s not a place for an extended stay, but if you’re passing through, give it a try!

I have stayed here many times. Something has obviously changed. We rented 3 rooms, and each room smelled so bad we went and bought air fresheners, and disinfectant. Even though it says SMOKE FREE I would gather they are not strict on there policy for smoke free rooms. We all felt sick the next day with sore throats and Headaches. I would not recommend this Motel to someone with children or that cares about there health. Also there is some sketchy things that go on there. Not really feeling safe, put a chair up against the door at night. People banging on doors.

My boyfriend and I stay here often when visiting a parcel of land he recently purchased. We LOVE staying here as it is a throwback to our childhood memories of road trips with our families! The so called "outdated" decor only lends to the charm of this retro motel nestled in this sleepy town of Newport. The new owner, Virginie, is friendly, sweet and accomodating; like knowing a friend who owns a motel! Unlike the not so lovely, Lovely's, this place is extremely clean despite its age. Please, please, don't change a thing about this place and help preserve a piece of American history when times were simpler...
