My husband and I stayed here in early June and had a balcony room - from what I could tell, not many hotels in Old Port offered balconies so I was happy to have one for our stay. Their location is as good as it gets for Old Port! Their valet service to/from the airport was a nice amenity and they also offer valet if you need a ride somewhere. Their valet staff was always very helpful and a pleasure to chat with. Room service was very quick for when we wanted something on the fly and they had a few different on site cocktail spots too! Our room faced a parking garage and we were near a bar where the street noise carried up to the balcony but it was nice one night to hear their jazz music. Once we had our balcony door closed though, our room was quiet so the happenings nearby didn’t keep us up in the least. This is definitely a more old school classic hotel and I’ve seen reviews where they referred to this as a tired property. Meh - maybe a little bit. I wouldn’t call it trendy, but it definitely offered a lot and was clean, etc. So the tired didn’t really bother me. We booked our stay before the restrictions lifted quite a bit so before I did book, I called with some questions. It was refreshing to get a live person immediately who could answer a few questions. We encountered nothing but wonderful hospitality from check in to check out. Enjoy Portland, ME. Lots to do near by and lovely/comfortable rooms with a balcony after a day exploring. If I had stayed an extra day, I would have definitely taken advantage of their spa as I heard great things about it! I would absolutely recommend a stay here!…
The Regency never disappoints. I stayed in April and returned during Memorial Day weekend. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive. Turn down service hasn't returned but the chocolates are available at the front desk. Both visits soothed my COVID frazzled nerves. There were two weddings during my last stay, which added something special to the weekend. I'll be staying again all through the summer. Make a reservation, you'll be happy that you did.
We were really excited to stay here based on the photos, it looked like a really nice place. However when we entered our room I noticed that the cotton ball holder in the corner had some hair in it, which made me wonder how well they had cleaned other parts of the room (and wonder why it wasn’t changed out between guests). The wall pump in the shower was also out of conditioner and the ice and vending machines were out of order which was inconvenient.
We wanted something close to the water but still reasonably priced, and this fit the bill. The building itself is beautiful, and a little quirky as it is a former Armory that has been renovated into the hotel. Our room (2 doubles) was a little small but sufficient for our needs. We had friendly service from everyone we encountered. The only downside was for all the beautiful furnishings and things, there were some things that were a little lackluster; rusty shower curtain rod, some ceiling tiles in the bathroom could be replaced, little things like that. Our shower was also out of conditioner, but we all had our own with so not the biggest deal. All in all, a very nice stay!
Good location. Room was generous, for an urban downtown hotel, and clean, but furnishings were tired, finishes worn, and the services were bare. The valet was often ‘on an errand,’. Wireless was a trip. Had to enter a nine character code, and be careful of upper and lower case! The mattress and pillows were basic. Shredded foam rubber or something like it for pillows. Not a restful night on the sinking mattress. Would not stay here again. Can’t understand the glowing reviews of some. This is supposedly a ‘luxury’ hotel. Maybe we were in a substandard or unrefurbished room. We travel often and well. This hotel did not meet our usual expectations.
