Aloft Portland Downtown Waterfront ME is celebrated for its prime location near the heart of the city and the waterfront, with many guests praising the ease of access to local hotspots. The attentive staff, particularly the friendly bartenders and helpful reception team, receive frequent accolades for their warm service. While the modern amenities and clean, spacious rooms are appreciated by guests, some feel the lack of a gym and a microwave is a drawback. Although the high parking fees are a point of contention for some travelers, the hotel's inviting atmosphere and quirky décor are often mentioned as highlights. However, opinions on the décor and noise levels in the rooms are divided.

My wife, 2 kids and myself stayed here Saturday night before the Maine marathon and the hotel itself is beautiful. It just opened about 2 weeks ago and it surely shows, the rooms are large, modern and feature a lot of moveable furniture so you can alter the room to fit a pack n play etc. Each room has a massive shower, private toilet and mini fridge which surely come in handy. My gripes are minor but I think could really improve things - add a trash to each floor by the elevator and lobby and then install a shelf in the shower so you don't need to store your goods on the ground which doesn't seem to clean. Otherwise stellar, super clean! The valet workers were very friendly and really hustled to get you your car.

They will try to sell you on $35 a night for valet only parking. There’s a private parking lot across the street. You have to get a hangtag from another parking garage about two blocks away. It’s $10 a day. And you don’t have to deal with the hassle of having a valet bring your car down every time you need to get something out of the trunk that you forgot. If you drive in the lot across the street there is a sign with the information on where to go. Please see my picture.
Chris at the bar was fantastic! Always willing to offer you advice, directions, or recommendations. Better than most concierge‘s!
The only annoying thing was that they don’t do housekeeping because of “Covid” being a lifetime titanium member I felt a little slighted waiting in line while people checked in an out to ask for more towels and toiletries every day. I understand it’s a first world problem but it’s still a problem.

Many reviews touch on the same points, but the location is great, walkable to all the best of downtown Portland. While not a huge issue, was surprised no recognition of a Marriott status on check-in. The front desk team was pleasant although not overly engaged. Valet attendants were incredibly pleasant and energetic, but with a captive audience (read: no other parking option and $35 per night).

On the surface the hotel is stylish and chic. Unfortunately the rooms were worn and not well cleaned, especially for a hotel of this brand and price range. During the stay experienced dust, stains and overall inattention to detail throughout the common areas and in the room. Like other reviewers, had to request basic amenities for the room.

Not a horrible experience just expect so much more from the brand. Most likely will chose a different property on the next visit to Portland.

The hotel itself looks appealing with trendy decor and room layouts. The location is great and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, the issues encountered during our stay put a damper on our time in Portland.

The room had very little sound proofing so you could hear people in the hall, flushing toilets, etc. We were provided with only two towels, and there was no extra toilet paper despite the roll in the bathroom being almost gone upon our arrival. While there was a coffee maker in the room, it was missing any type of caffeinated tea. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the sheets felt cheap and scratchy.

With the $35 valet fee, we paid over $350 for a Thursday night stay. I would be able to let some of the issues go if it weren't for the high cost for a subpar stay.

One final note: Our king room was setup so the shower is not behind a closed door (only the toilet is in an enclosed room). It didn't bother my husband and I but I can see how the layout may be off-putting for others.

This hotel is stylish. The room looked just like the photos. Unfortunately, the service, amenities, and functionality of the room were poor, as others have also mentioned. The front desk staff seemed either bored or distracted every time I spoke to them. When I checked in no one told me anything about the hotel, the area, coffee in the lobby in the morning, etc. The room was missing basic amenities: no conditioner, no cup for some water, only 1 bar of soap to share between the sink and the shower. I had to go to the front desk to request more soap on the first day, but they didn't have any conditioner. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable and the corner room was quiet.

The hotel is new but the features of the room were already damaged, including the soap dish in the shower which was tilted and falling off, and the USB ports in the nightstand which did not work at all.

I really think for the price they are charging, a small conditioner, a plastic cup, and two bars of soap is not too much to ask, especially when there still is no daily housekeeping service.

The parking attendants were friendly, but the price was outrageous. However, seems normal for Portland where parking is at a premium everywhere.

The bar was nice, the bartender Chris was friendly and the drinks he made were carefully crafted and he clearly took pride in them.

Overall, I would not return to this hotel. Given the price, it felt incredibly cheap for them to skimp on basic things.

That was the reply one of three uniformly unhelpful front desk workers gave when I asked for help on a relatively small matter. Bracing in its honesty, it summarizes everything that has gone wrong with a hotel that has been charging well over $400 a night and on occasion over $500 this summer. As we approach Four Seasons pricing, however, there should be minimal standards of service.

The good: the rooms are clean albeit lacking in privacy, the elevators work, and on occasion, though hardly consistently, some coffee is placed in the lobby. The valet parking attendants are the only hotel employees who work efficiently (though my understanding is that this service is outsourced). You will find a review farther down that lets you understand just how overpriced parking is and what alternatives are available.

Take a close look at your bill as you leave, as I later found charges that proved difficult to correct..

Old Port is a great location, but unless you are able to get at $150 to $200 a night (a reasonable price point for this level of establishment), I would avoid this hotel.

We were exited to visit a 'hip-looking' Aloft on our recent trip to Portland. Given that it was 3 stars, had gotten good reviews and nearly $300/nite, our expectations were fairly high.

The staff were nice, but hotel was generally disappointing and room was dreadful. Basically a college dorm room, with no cups of any kind (not even paper), nor drawers for clothes and a total of 6 hangars for clothes (we battled over use of each and every one, even after doubling up). Finishes are just cheap, towels were too few (4 in total) and with no service of rooms (unless you stay for a week), it was challenging to have things addressed.

Hotel has no restaurant (though it does have a bar), not breakfast and only valet parking for cars (exorbitant). Location of hotel is on edge of town, so it's a bit of a walk get to good stuff (no fun in the rain) and it's right on a main road, so our 'water view' (was really a parking lot view) was noisy as it was on a main road.

Aloft hotels are clearly too 'hip' (or scrawny) for us, and we won't be back to this one in particular

Stayed mid week, hotel was clean but busy. Checked in for 2 nights. Hotel has thin walls and is loud. Holiday week so it was busy and loud. Next morning we went to breakfast and walked around. When we got back our keys would not work. We went to the desk and the response was well did you have a late check out....? no we 're here for 2 nights. Ok....so she reactivated the keys. We went upstairs room wasn't cleaned. We went to the mall and came back around 4, room still not cleaned. I asked and was told they only clean every other day so 2 night stays dont get room service. Ok would have been nice to know and if you knew we were there 2 nights why turn off my keys. Went to get coffee and the creamer as gross, it had turned to syrup. They have couches in the valet area so you can watch for your car evidently they also allow the valets to take naps on the couch because thats where the valet spent most of the day......laying down on the couch. Also a suggestion if anyone reads this. If you want to let people keep their dogs at this hotel maybe try putting all the dogs on one floor as it wasn't much fun being awoken at 6 am by a barking dog also barking at 2 am in the morning. I think this could have been handled better and they should have at least comped the valet.

Brand new hotel. The check in was very efficient. All of the staff I ran into were very friendly when I ran into them, even the house keepers in the hallways. The bartender is a true asset to the hotel.

You can either pay for valet parking or find a spot on the street. It was easier to find parking on the street than I thought it would be, and the street parking was very close.

The bed was very comfortable. Nice large TV. The in room heat pump for heat/ac was very good. The bathroom was fine with us (I don't need a shelf in a shower). Appreciated the clean and modern mini-fridge.

Large modern lofts in great location. Staff friendly and efficient on check-in and check-out. There is valet parking but we found free overnight parking across the road next to the cafe mentioned below.

Stayed just one night in Portland and this was a great choice. Location was just right for proximity to Bissell Bros Brewery which we visited on way into town and various breweries and restaurants in the centre and northern part of the city.

Room was large with a cool layout and a clear view across road to waterfront. Shower was equally large but the shower head chosen by Marriott for this and a couple of other newer/renovated properties we stayed in is not great at dropping a decent water pressure.

There is a cool open bar area on the ground floor but unfortunately it didn’t serve breakfasts. We went across the road to a great old skool cafe (Becky’s Diner) that has a huge following and equally huge breakfasts.
