Pros: great location, room we were in was quiet with a good view of the harbor. Parking attendants were fast and nice. Cons: rooms very much need updating and they had no maid service — figure out how to empty your own trash, etc. For 3 nights and for the price was just wrong. The Hilton brand isn’t what used to be.

The Hilton Garden Inn is taking Covid precautions very seriously. Front door is locked except to guests with key card access. Restaurant is contactless, call down from room and receive a call when food is ready. Eat at socially distanced tables or in your room. We travel extensively and this experience was extremely positive. Rooms and common areas are very clean. Staff is exceptional, friendly, efficient and always ready to help. A big shout out to the management for creating such a positive atmosphere. Location is outstanding, right on Commercial Street - a very short walk to restaurants, bars, shops and waterfront. We will definitely be back!

We had a great stay at this hotel. First of all, the location is great and walking distance from the bars, restaurants and breweries that make Portland so popular. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The valet stand is super speedy with bringing your car out, we never waited more than 5 minutes. The room was nice, but not exceptional, It was clean and nicely appointed. There is free coffee in the lobby each morning but breakfast is not complimentary. Being that Portland is a foodie town, I would suggest getting breakfast at Becky's Diner or go on over to Holy Donut. We paid in the $250 range and for the location and time of year that price was reasonable. We looked into going back on the weekend and it would have been $600 per night and there is no way I would pay THAT much for this particular hotel. Overall a great stay and I cannot say enough good things about the people who work here, they make it such a friendly place to stay. Highly recommend if you can get a good rate.

This is a pretty nice hotel. The staff of pleasant and helpful; our room was clean. To begin, I have no idea why downtown Portland is so expensive. There is nothing to do here, really. In spite of that, town is busy and so is this hotel. We are staying in a 2 queen room with a pull-out sofa. The pullout is typical—which is to say bad and uncomfortable. The real beds are extremely soft, which is not great for my back. There is an abundance of pillows, which is nice. The a/c is working great despite it being so warm outside the last few days. Valet parking $25/night with in/out privileges. There is no water pressure in the shower—I had to rinse my shampoo in the sink. It’s not worth $500+ a night by ANY stretch of the imagination. This is a meat and potatoes hotel in a sleepy, boring town with nothing to do. For that price, we could stay somewhere far better than here. Also—the pool is a joke. It’s a single lane, maybe 10meters long. The fitness center is gross, with outdated and minimal equipment.

The HGI at the Portland waterfront is by far the best Hilton brand property we stay at. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The cooked to order breakfast is delicious. Clearly the management makes customer happy choices. For example, fresh Maine blueberry pancakes, meaty (not too fatty) smoked bacon, and house made hash are a few examples. A great location to walk around the Portland waterfront. Rooms are spotless and the hotel well kept. And just for the perspective, I spend around 60 nights a year at various Hilton properties.
