We stayed in Rockwood last fall, and decided to go to The Birches for lunch. There were no other guests, and we both placed orders for some fancy sandwiches and coffee. About 20 minutes after we got there, a party of about six came in. All the workers gathered around the table and fawned over a man in the party....

I enjoyed my stay. I've read some negative reviews but I have to say I had a great stay. Great food and more then I could eat 👍 And great conversation and good people. Parking was difficult but they helped me out so all good. There are several locals that enjoy this place also so in the morning there were...

We stayed in a rustic cozy cabin for 3 nights and had a great stay. We had planned on camping, but the weather changed our plans! Cozy cabin 1 has heat...which we were thankful to have. There are bunks, table and chairs and a fire pit. Other than those amenities you are on your own for cooking and food storage....

We booked two nights for a total charge of $360 which was supposed to include 9% Maine tax. Our bill said Total Charges $360 and then they added $32.40 for Maine tax.Over the phone they said their was tv and Wi-Fi for this price. What they failed to mention was that it was in main lodge. The cabin we were...

This person was reported as aggressive and miserable by our staff. He should have stayed in a Holiday Inn. He was abusive and was threatening to our staff from the beginning even threatened to sue our front desk person on duty. Our moose and wildlife safari sees many animals regularly. As fall approaches the moose are more on the move...

Made reservations for a campsite at The Birches with a quoted price of $15/night. Received a phone call later that night saying it was quoted incorrectly, it would be $30/night. Taken by surprise we said we would still take it but the next morning we decided we didn't want to pay $30/night. Called The Birches back and said we were...

All of our campsites are waterfront with water and eclectic. The rate is 15 per night per person. A bargain in the camping world. How does someone get to do a review without staying at a property?? Sounds like a deliberate plan to trash an establishment.

Okay, I saw that the reviews said rustic but this was a new level of rustic for me. Cabins were very shabby. Warped flooring, holes in walls, exposed plumbing, loads of bugs and rodents. Went on a pontoon moose tour and did not see any moose, but the lake is beautiful. The dining room was also beautiful and the food...

Our cabins were built in the 30's and 40's. They are traditional log cabins and are insulated. While there may be some shifting in the logs they are tight. The plumbing was retro fitted into these genuine log cabins. Our repeat guests , some of which have been coming for over 40 years love the cabins. We have full time...

A few summers ago I stayed at a wilderness yurt site at the Birches that has a great view but the yurt was so fifthly we were glad we brought tents. My party of seven had a great time but didn’t use the yurt because of the poor condition at the yurt. We were pleased to find that the Birches...

The Birches is an old, rustic "resort" on Moosehead Lake. It's right on the shore of the lake which is great, and the restaurant is pretty good, but our accommodations were awful. Our extended family of 6 (3 adults and 3 teenagers) stayed in the Strangers in Paradise house (as opposed to the smaller cabins) in early July. Granted, the...

My family and I stayed the week of July 17th. This place is a slice of heaven. The views are breathtaking. We stayed in the Elmer Bemis which was a 1 minute drive from the lodge. Very secluded and comfortable for the 6 of us. All the staff treated us great. Food was excellent and huge portions in the lodge....
