#1 of 5 Speciality lodging in Rockwood
Rockwood Cottages is a village of housekeeping cottages nestled on the shore of Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine. We are located in the heart of a complete four-season vacation area, an area that has something for everyone to enjoy every season of the year in a natural unspoiled wilderness setting. Here is a beautiful, crystal clear lake, 40 miles long and 20 miles wide. Moosehead is a boaters' paradise!! Explore sheltered inlets and coves and discover hidden beaches and picnic areas along the 400 miles of shoreline. To the left of our docks is the mouth of the Moose River so if the lake is too rough, canoers and kayakers can find calmer waters in the river. JOIN US FOR A FAMILY VACATION IN THE MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS OF MAINE Our summer guests at Rockwood Cottages can just enjoy the unique peace and solitude of the north woods or join in the many recreational activities in the area. We have nearby golf courses, tennis courts, float plane rides, white water raft trips on the Kennebec and Penobscot rivers, boating, swimming, bicycling and fishing. The surrounding wilderness area has hundreds of miles of wood roads and trails offering visitors a chance to get back into the woods and providing fishermen access to the many ponds, streams and rivers. Camera enthusiasts and adventurers can explore the surrounding woods and thrill at the sight of their first moose, deer, bear, partridge and beaver or enjoy picking abundant wild strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Hikers can take a leisurely walk down a quiet wooded trail or a challenging climb up Big Squaw, White Cap, Big Spencer or Mt Kineo. Mt Kineo, located directly opposite our docks, rises majestically out of Moosehead Lake forming a 700 ft.. Flint cliff. The Moosehead Lake Region offers some of the most beautiful, remote vacation opportunities in Maine! In 1903, Hanscom Packard said "Moosehead Lake is the jewel of the Maine forest--Kineo the gem, and Moosehead the setting!" "A STRANGER IS JUST A FRIEND WE HAVEN'T MET YET." Your Hosts, Ron & Bonnie Searles

We left Moosehead Lake and our sweet little Lakeview cottage this morning to drive to Lubec. We stayed 3 nights in Rockwood and had a great time. The cottage was spotless, well-stocked, warm and cozy on some very chilly days. We each snuggled up in our own recliner with a blanket and the wonderful heater blasting away. We weren't sure how we would do with a double bed since we normally sleep in a king, but we slept very well! Dennis and Emily were great hosts, too! Everything you need is here and there's plenty to do, even with Covid restrictions. We heard and saw loons, saw a bald eagle, came face to face with a moose on Rockwood Road, visited Prong Pond, took the Sugar Island cruise on the Katahdin and poked around the cute little stores in Greenville. We even sat out in one of the swings, shivering and star gazing, in awe of the Milky Way. We look forward to another visit!

We enjoyed a quiet, week long stay in Cabin 7. The view of the lake wasn't the best of the cabins, but I picked it for the bedroom and kitchen layouts. Dennis & Emily are great hosts and help make the experience worth reviewing! I loved the darkness so thick you couldn't see your hands in front of you at night, the quiet family atmosphere (there are quiet hours in place and no partying went on while we were there), hearing the loons and eagles, and it was great that our dog could join us for a nominal extra fee! Canoe and kayak rentals are available, too. Would definitely visit again!

Been staying here the last several years for our annual spring Moosehead Lake fishing trip. Dennis and Emily are great friendly hosts (as are their sons). The dock and cabins are set up perfect for this fisherman. Cable TV and wi-fi for inclement weather when you can't get on the lake or enjoy the great view. We live on the Maine coast and arrived the first week the camps were allowed to open because of the state Covid-19 restrictions. The cabins are all far apart and social distancing is not an issue except in the immediate boat dock area. We basically had the place to ourselves as all the out of state guests had cancelled because of the required quarantine restrictions. We plan to be back next year.

Six wonderfully old-fashioned cottages right on the shore of Moosehead Lake with a splendid view of Mt. Kineo. You can see both dawn and sunset sitting right by the water on one of their double swings. We were sold by the screen porch. In Maine, you want a screen porch; there is nothing like sitting in a rocking chair with a good book, looking out at one of the most magnificent lakes in New England, protected from the bugs! The cabin itself was immaculately clean and well supplied. Although the layout is a throwback to the Fifties, all the plumbing and fixtures were very new. Dennis and Emily were friendly and responsive. Best, maybe, was the community of folks we encountered who have been coming back year after year. Every evening, there was a friendly gathering around the barbecue and fire pit on picnic picnic tables at lake's edge. A very sweet and appealing place.

Emily, Dennis and their boys are a great family who run a great family business. They are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. They have worked hard to update the cottages. We recently stayed in their new addition to available cottages. Very quiet, clean with incredible views. Emily and Dennis are very accommodating, we have been doing business with them for approximately 4 years and have already booked our cottage for next year. Enjoy your stay.
