Although this is the only motel on the island, its still great. Its unique, every room is a bit different. The water rushes underneath the hotel which provides a nice calming and relaxing sound. The views are extraordinary and the people are friendly. There is not other place like the tidewater motel.

This is a beautiful island to relax and spend some quality time with friends and/or family. There are not a lot of distractions. Everyone is friendly and welcoming! The hotel advertises free wifi, but my phone and laptop couldn't connect in our room (my husband's phone connected only on the balcony). The rooms were clean and comfortable. The tv in...

Understood there would be two beds a d pullout couch, had 1 bed and 2 couches. Trustme, at 73 I'm not built for the couch any more. Living room had a leak in the ceiling which wasn't bad so much as bothersome. There was one eatery in the evening, Harbor Gawker, and one in the morning, (back behind the strip...

We did not tell this guest the Harbormaster's Berth had two beds. It never has and we would not misrepresent it. I'm sorry the living room had a small leak. If it were me I'd have reported it. When we acknowledged their reservation (long before they arrived) we did so with a written description of available island eateries. If they'd...

Vinalhaven is quite a ferry ride from mainland Maine but we love visiting everytime we are in Maine. It is a lobstering village and has such a pretty harbor. The motel is clean and could use a little updating but it is clean and we purchased lobster and cooked it in our little kitchenette. The breakfast is continential. The reason...

We stayed in Room 9 on the second floor and had a great view. Probably could have stayed on the first floor and had just as good a view for less money. Plus wouldn't have had to lug the luggage up and down the narrow stairs. Several rooms face main street and the tidal pool across the street, so you...

This place is very, very unusual but a very cool spot. In fact, the.whole town of Vinalhaven is offbeat in a very good way. There is a reason for the name of the inn as the tide literally roars beneath the hotel which is perfectly located between a cove and harbor. The rooms are spartan but very clean. A good...

This place is like staying at your grandma's. And I mean that in the most positive sense. Stunning views of the harbor. The building sits over an inlet that feeds further inland and it is amazing to see and hear the depth of water that goes in and out with the tides right underneath you. The people who run this...

We stayed at the Tidewater in July and loved it. We had taken the boat to Vinalhaven the prior summer and wanted to have more time on the island. The Motel is in walking distance from the ferry and everything you would need is also within walking distance. We rented a car from the Tidewater because we were curious about...

We stayed in the Tidewater Motel two years ago when we visited my brother that lives in Vinalhaven. He had already reserved a room for us before we arrived and we were extremely happy with his decision. On this trip we drove across the nation from California and of all the places that we stayed in it was by far...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tidewater Motel is built on a bridge separating Carver's Harbor to the south from Carver's Pond, its tidal estuary, to the north. The same rush of ocean water coming and going right under your harborside room once powered a blacksmith shop and grist mill on the site. Few views can equal those at the Tidewater and few places are as relaxing; the ebb and flow is nature's own sedative. Still, the world's most productive lobster fleet, anchored right outside your window, gets an early start, so you may not want to sleep in. Open year-round, the Tidewater is the island's only motel. If you want to be closer to the water, you'll have to get wet. ... more   less
