The Elms Bed and Breakfast is not as described. The inn is situated directly opposite to an active mill and right next to a busy street in an industrial part of town. The house is dark and rather gloomy. While the building has lot of potential, it has not been maintained. We stayed in the River room. It was large...

This is a completely run down place. Dirty, dusty, trashed in places. It is located opposite of a building site and right on a high-traffic road. The idyllic pics don't reflect reality at all. I have no idea where any positive rating comes from. When we arrived we have been horrified and called the inn keeper who offered us to leave...

We arrived during what passes for a hot spell in Maine. But it would have been hot anywhere, esp when one's window air conditioner is really inadequate except as a noise producer. The bed was too small for the 2 of us, so I slept on the floor the first night. The second night was marginally better, since there were...

Somewhat misleading descriptions of rooms....as if you don't read about each one you don't realize that some rooms don't have a private bath and that you may be on the third floor. So yes, unfortunately our room did not have a bath and we were on the 3rd floor. I would not have chosen the room if I had read...

My wife and I planned on staying a few days in the Portland area at The Elms. We arrived and checked in, unpacked and headed straight for the coast to view the scenery. Enroute I received a call that I had a crisis at work and had to return immediately. We made our way back to The Elms and packed...

We had a lovely stay at the Elms with family (all adults). Don't be fooled by the unsightly paper mill across the street. The Elms is beautiful inside, quiet, and the screened-in porch at the back overlooks a peaceful river. Only two rooms have private bathrooms and this comes at quite a premium. Breakfasts were tasty and the owners friendly....

Each floor has a shared washroom each equipped with 2 showers. I can see there being an issue on a busy weekend if the floor is shared with strangers. My friend and I did not have this issue though, the other guests were very friendly and respected each others time in the washroom. The owners are very friendly, and Matt's...

few minutes off of Rt 95. 20 minutes from downtown. A quiet get away that is a vacation on its own. Old world charm all around and great full breakfast served on Lenox china. Felt spoiled by Belgium waffles with homemade Maine blueberry sauce and PERFECT eggs benedict. Have a fun day running around town then back to the Elms...

The Elms is an old victorian type of building with gothic features on the large side with plenty of old world charm .The proprietors had completely different attitudes towards there guests?
