Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Just spent time in Crisfield at Captain Tyler's Motel...first floor room with laminate floors, flat screen tv, phone, hairdryer, in-wall a/c, excellent quality towels, and spotlessly clean. I based my average rating on comparison with more modern motels of today, but I think they have done almost all they can, given the age of the property. The only complaints I heard from others were the lack of in-room coffee (that really needs to be done), lack of elevator, and unstaffed office some of the time. The manager was very helpful at check-in. The room was cleaned promptly and efficiently each day. It was certainly quiet at night (though this was still off-season) and the location provided walking distance to the water, to restaurants, and to a lovely and informative town museum.

We drove to Crisfield to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. We stopped at a hotel we saw there before it was called The Pines, We looked at a room and asked the price. The place was really run down. We decided not to stay there. We drove to the place we stayed at before which was the Somers Cove Motel and is now a Best Value Inn. This hotel was worse than the first one we looked at. There was a woman screaming from the upstairs down to her 5 year old daughter downstairs. It was a sorry situation. We only had one other hotel to try. We went to the Paddlewheel Inn. I spoke with the gentleman, he was cordial. I asked him if we could see a room, he handed me his master key and say go and find one you like. So we found a room with a king size bed. The room smelled very clean. The bed was very clean. It was a diamond in the rough. We were so happy that we weren't going to have to drive to Princess Ann or Salisbury. There were only two negatives. There was a loveseat to sit in and it had crumbs under the cushions. The seat was stained and looked worn. The second thing was that there was no shampoo in the room. We had to go and buy our own shampoo. I would stay there again.

We went to Crisfield to visit some family and stayed at the Captain Tyler's (Paddlewheel) Motel. There are no many options and this is what we were recommended. All reviews about cleanliness are absolutely true. It is a motel, so don't expect to have "the time of your life" in this place. If you happen to go to Crisfield and need a place to stay be assured that you will have a spotless large room. Beds are ok but if you can bring a pillow I suggest you do so. Room needs some fixing but hey! it's a cheap stay. There is no coffee in the room or around. If you are used to convenient chain hotels like Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Courtyard by Marriot, etc. this is NOT like that but it gets the job done. It's definitely not the type of place we are used to but I have no complains about this motel.

We stayed at the Paddlewheel Motel overnight and arrived without reservations. They were exetremely accomadating and gave us our choice of rooms. The rooms were recently remodeled and had brand new mattresses which were exetremely comfortable. Everything was clean, well stocked, and the staff was super nice. Donna the manager couldn't have been more helpful or kind. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to others. It is also in the center of town and within walking distance to area restaurants and the water front! A+

Finding ourselves in Princess Anne dropping off my son for a workshop weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to bring along our kayaks in hope of finding a nice place to visit and explore the local waters. Whereas we refer to Trip Advisor for all our travel plans, there were not too many hotel/motels listed with good reviews, except Captain Tyler's, formerly known as the Paddlewheel Hotel.
We enjoyed a delightful weekend in our beautiful decorated room, featuring hardwood floors, a large King Bed, comfy recliner, LCD TV, refrigerator with large freezer, microwave and small seating area. Having never heard of Crisfield before, we enjoyed a day of kayaking around Janes Island State Park and dining in this very quaint town...our visit to the local museum further enforcing our desire to return in the future.
The quality of this hotel could easily command a price twice as much as we paid...and though we stayed off season, I understand the in season rate to only be about $10 more...what a deal! We can't wait to return to enjoy the area during the fall, winter and spring.
As kayakers, we particularly enjoy quiet wilderness paddles, as well as more vigorous paddles on wind swept bays. The Chesapeake, local State Parks and many estuaries offer a variety of outdoor opportunities to explore.
We found our visit on a whim to be one of the nicest short vacations we have enjoyed in a long time...

No wifi, no room phone, no front desk clark after 5, no hot water few minutes after taking shower... that didn't bother me much or would put me in to situation where I could have end up in emergency if I hadn't get out of there middle of night and check in to defferent motel!! I don't know what they sprayed the room with but I woke up middle of the night coughing my guts out... I noticed strong scent when I checked in earlier yeasterday but I thought it would fade by the time we get back from Cruise to one of the Island and have dinner and all. we got back arround 9 last night the smell was still pretty strong. took shower went to sleep little after 10 woke up coughing and choking at the same time. I couldn't even get my srlf up and My son quickly got cold water and help me up, went out side and got some fresh air and came back in and went back to sleep again and woke up again caughing and choking again.. I thought may be change bed with my Son might solve the problem but it didn't and this time I was caoghing and choking but I couldn't wake up.. my son was shaking me and went to open door to let some fresh air come in and told me that we need to get out of there otherwise I would it'll it will only get worse and he was afraid that I may be end up in emergency room. We google the motels in Crisfield and found one near by which Somers Cove Motel has 24hour front desk open so I call and they did had room for us so we packed our stuff and checked in at Somers cove Motel well after midnight... The smell of the whatever that was bothering me stayed with me so I out on balcony the breath in some fresh air forva while and went back to sleep and sleep comfortably in to the morning.

Who travels without a camera? Not Tripadvisor members. My family and I were in Crisfield (on the eastern shore) for a funeral. We searched motels in the area before leaving the Grand Strand. Only 3 motels in this quaint town. The Paddlewheel is now known as The Captain Tyler. It's a 2 story motel without elevators, breakfast, or a pool. It is however clean. Comfy beds. Room 10 upstairs (on the end) had a flatscreen, mini frig, microwave, and an ole crushed velvet couch. The ac/heat unit was like a window unit in the wall and it blew constantly. The office which also serves as a place to purchase Tangier cruise tixs is NOT manned 24/7. The downstairs King rooms are upgraded with pillowtop mattresses and flatscreens. Can't wait for the doubles to be upgraded!
**TIP: ask for better towels (we got them with no problem)

There aren't many options in Crisfield, this one seems to be the best of the very few. It's an old motel, but the rooms are clean and fairly roomy. We were in a second building, next to the main hotel. The rooms in our building were above a closed restaurant. No elevator to get up to the rooms, the stairs are outside. There is a deck off the back, overlooking the water, a nice place to sit if there is a breeze. The ice machine is a cooler in the hallway with ice in it.
The bottom line, though, is the hotel is really just fine. It is within walking distance of restaurants and stores, very near a marina which is pretty to walk around. The people who work there are friendly. The bed was comfortable.
As others have noted - no shampoo is provided. The soap is the small hotel bars. Our room had quite a few electrical outlets, handy for recharging electronics.

Clean & comfortable. Comfortable beds, new flat panel TV, refrigerator & microwave in room. No amenities provided other than soap. No elevator to 2d floor. Great location near marina & restaurants. Friendly accomodating staff. Telephones may not work--bring your cell phone, shampoo, etc. Old-style family run type motel. Location & price make it a good value.
