My wife and kids gave me the "chef for a day" experience for my birthday. I spent the day with Exec. Chef Tylor and it was a fantastic day. Braised short ribs, gnocchi, lamb and roasted red pepper sausage ravioli, angel hair pasta with pesto sauce and a lemon chiffon cake. It was a full day, but something I will...

I'm planning our next stay at Savage River and had to comment about our first visit. We stayed for the first time on Valentine's weekend and it was wonderful. It was lightly snowing in Baltimore and we arrived to 36 inches of powder snow on the ground up there. It was more like somewhere out West, and not like Maryland....

My husband and I recently stayed in cabin 3 for our anniversary. It was absolutely heavenly. We both wanted to stay longer! I have a difficult time relaxing and SRL allowed me to do that. The staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. They seem to really understand hospitality. The cabin from the exterior looks like a simple cabin. But everything...

Stayed in cabin 9 with rocking chairs, comfy living room, fireplace, fridge, tea kettle, coffee pot all the fixings are there. Excellent shower and large bathroom. Bed was the bomb!!! Big loft and all gorgeous white linens. Ceiling fans, windows for cool breezes. So quiet and peaceful on porch, had wine and rocked. Walked the green trail, there are several...

What a beautiful peaceful getaway! The cabins are far enough apart where you definitely have your privacy. And the size and set-up is perfect for a couple or small family. You could go to the lodge (which is immaculate) for breakfast/dinner or have it brought to you, or even explore Town. With Geo-caching and sites there was a lot to...

Just returned from a three night stay in late July 2014. What a peaceful, and relaxing place, that is off the beatened path. The cabin we stayed in was roomy, clean and had a king sized bed. With most of the comforts of home and the muffins and juice delivered to our cabin door each morning we almost forget that we were...

We spent three nights over July 4th weekend. The place is in the middle of nowhere. It is dog-friendly. There is no internet access (either Wifi or through cell coverage, which was very weak; could barely send and receive email). They say they have Wifi (and it is set up) but there is zero bandwidth, so don't expect to search...

MC1969Traveler, Thank you so much for your time! As always, we appreciate the feedback. We love hearing what our guests experience while they are with us, from top to bottom! Internet is unfortunately a problem we've been fighting for a long time. While the main Lodge does have Wi-Fi, albeit from a satellite connection which is painfully slow, the cabins...

We have stayed at SRL half a dozen or more times over the years. The staff continues to be among the best, most professional, and friendliest I have encountered in all my travels. On my last visit, we stayed in one of the new yurts. They are not quite finished (most notably no back porch or fireplace), but we were...

Our first visit and it exceeded every expectation! The food in the lodge restaurant was superb and only surpassed by the excellent wait staff. All the employees at SRL we encountered during our stay were very accommodating and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The trails are very well marked and offer a wide range of levels....

Although the grounds surrounding the new yurts are still developing, the inside experience of the Yurts is way beyond our expectations. There is something quite magical about these 30ft diameter circle "tents" with the 2 6 six beams that rise to a glass dome. We were lucky, (and I am not kidding) to spend a night when it rained the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Comfort - Privacy - Relaxation. We often hear these words when people talk about the Savage River Lodge. Nestled within more than 700 acres of Western Maryland's Savage River State Forest, the lodge is a peaceful retreat from a busy world. Once you're here, you'll find all the elements of relaxation and comfort--fantastic food, sink-into accommodations, your own private cabin, and exceptional hospitality. Whether you prefer to watch nature from your rocking chair or spend your day in pursuit of your favorite outdoor activity, you'll take home the spirit of the forest...and the Savage River Lodge. Our eighteen luxury cabins and the nearby lodge building, surrounded by the forest, convey a rustic, lived-in comfort. Our amenities and appointments, however are decidedly upscale and infused with a genuinely friendly and relaxed hospitality. ... more   less
