Let me start by saying I have been staying at the Sahara Motel for 30 years, visiting at least once a summer. I can honestly say the only updates I have seen in those 30 years is new air conditioning units in the rooms. Let me start with the good. The location is fantastic only one block to the boardwalk and beach. The pools are very nice, clean and well-kept. The Sahara Café, which is attached to the motel has probably the best breakfast in Ocean City Maryland. Off-street parking is provided. Very inexpensive. They do have a security guard on duty walking the premises on weekends. The shower-heads provide a decent showering experience. Now some of the things the Sahara needs to change to keep me coming back. The carpets in the rooms are very old and are starting to give off an awful odor. The furniture has not been changed in decades and the drawers in most of the furniture are unusable because of the mildew smell. Because it is relatively inexpensive the crowd can be rough at times with smoking, partying, and loud talk well into the early morning hours. The showering linens are very cheap and thin. I guess the most offensive thing that I have noticed in the past two or three years is the carpet odors in the rooms. Do not even try to visit without some kind of deodorizer to spray often. I will probably give them one more season and if those things don’t change I will move on.…
We have been staying at the Sahara for about 10 plus years but this was our first time back in a few years. This time around we weren't that impressed. We always stay in the tower building because we like the elevator. I will say the room was clean and cheap. We like the location because you can walk to a lot. The pool was fairly clean. We did get carry out from the restaurant which was great except it was packed to the rim and didn't see many masks during Covid. The housekeeping lady was super friendly and brought us fresh towels and took our trash. The bad parts, the bed was hard and the pillows were so little and flat, I ended up using a stuffed animal as a pillow. There was something white all over one of the beds cover and stains on the sheets. Sitting on the porch EVERYONE was smoking...to the left and right of us cigarettes and someone was smoking weed below us. There was someone to the left who was blaring rock music and someone to the right blaring rap. The old man next to us who sat outside and drank beer all day asked my teenage daughter how old she was..very creepy. I really enjoy sitting on the porch but just couldn't this time. Not management's fault but the kind of people are there. Maybe people were spending their unemployment checks or maybe I have just been spoiled by staying at other hotels. We might give the Sahara another chance if we decide to come back to OC.…
This was the first time my family stayed here. I used an outside booking site (Booking.com) and there was some confusion as to what rooms I actually booked when we checked in. I originally booked rooms in the Tower building but then changed my mind and wanted 2 oceanview rooms. Of course there was a difference in price and that was fine. When we checked in, we were given keys to poolside rooms with no oceanview. I went back to the office and explained what happened and the gentleman working the front desk, I wish I got his name, looked over everything and apologized for the confusion. He made sure we had 2 rooms with ocean view on the first floor which was great for my mom. We chose not to have maid service, and we're supplied with linen request door hangers and our requested supplies were on our door first thing in the morning. The property and rooms were very nice and clean. Couldn't get any closer to the beach. I would definitely book again at the Sahara Motel but not through Booking.com because it is very difficult to make changes. This is a great family friendly motel and very reasonable rates for being so close to all the action. My family was very pleased with our stay. Thank you very much for your great service and hospitality. John Lindenman…
I would not recommend Saraha Motel in Ocean City MD on 15th.. to anyone. I paid 3 months in advance to attend June airshow. Then when it cancelled I contacted Debbie Candy and was told that she would hold my $462 for future use or a refund. I chose to hold credit. When I went to use it 5 weeks later She told me I was a no show and kept my$. Are they that desperate? I am an essential worker with a handicapped husband and this is what they do...DO NOT GO THERE, I have spread the word thru my hospital friends and family. This is pathetic with what's going on in the world today. Sad, unprofessional and just bad business.
Stayed at the Sahara in June 2020. No-frills hotel to be sure, but comfortable and spotless, which was greatly appreciated. Room was on the top floor of the Tower Building and could see the ocean from the window - an added bonus! Price was right, and location was good. Only quibble was the tv - remote was finicky and the channels were a bit hit or miss. Wi-Fi could also be a bit tricky, but no big deal. Will definitely recommend to friends.
