We drive south from Canada to Florida each year, and every time I plot a different route. This year we wanted to explore the Chesapeake Bay Area. I discovered this Inn whilst reading up on the area, and booked us in for a couple of nights. It did not disappoint. In fact, the Inn at Perry Cabin was a fabulous place to stay.
The setting on the water, the grounds and the flower and herb gardens, the little marina where the hotel's beautiful boats are moored, the croquet lawn and the bocce court were only surpassed by the magnificent inn itself. The theme is nautical. and it works beautifully. Service and staff were friendly and professional.
Guests sit around in white Adirondack chairs in the early evening once fire pits are lit around the grounds. Blankets are offered by staff if it is chilly. And drinks are served there as well. There is a lovely restaurant on site, but we preferred to walk into nearby St Michael's for dinner. We had an excellent breakfast at the Inn in the morning,
We decided to take a two hour boat ride around the Miles River with very knowledgeable and affable Captain Jim in a beautifully maintained 38 foot sailboat. Memorable. Sunset cruises are also on offer.
There are many areas inside the hotel to lounge and read, or have a coffee/drink. all the main US newspapers are available for guests. Turndown service is accompanied with decadent chocolate chip cookies made in house.
I am trying to find a but....but can't.

We certainly enjoyed our visit to this resort. Beautiful setting and a wide range of activities available to the guests ranging from boating (kayaks, paddle boards, sail boats and powered yachts) tennis, spa and pool (seasonal). Also transportation to the town is included although the town is within easy walking distance. Wonderfull setting to just relax too. Nespresso in the room is a very nice touch. The staff is helpful and responsive. There were some minor disappointments. There were some minor maintenance issues with the room that I would have expected housekeeping to find and fix. We found that the restaurant (Stars) was OK but the romaine in the Caesar salad was not as pretty as we would have expected. We found better dining values in town.

We stayed at the Inn a couple of weeks ago for a mini vacation for 2 nights. We knew it was going to be somewhat on the high end of our budget but thought for that type of money the experience would be something really special and it was not.

We had a regular room with a limited view of the water on the first floor. Very nice room with nice TV, linens and I will say the some of the nicest towels of any hotel we have stayed in. The rooms do not compare to say the Rome Cavaliere, any Ritz Carlton, or Four Season and costs twice as much. It was about 82 degrees outside and could not get the room temperature below 72 degrees. Second day it was 75 degrees in room with AC on at 4 pm. Called maintenance and it took two calls to get anything done and then in barely got to 70 that night. For $700 a room you expect more. Also our room was about 25 feet from the bar and you could hear people until after midnight. Did not realize until we were leaving there was a double door in the hallway that someone from the hotel should have closed to block the noise.

Just because you put a few cute foreign young woman and men at the check in does not make you European. Particularly when other than being cordial they cannot help you with very much as they are not very intelligent and god forbid you have a problem they have to find an American.

Two nights with a sunset cruise for 2 (with other guests on the boat) a special 4 course meal that actually costs you more for booking online with them, 2 breakfast, and a $50 bar bill was over $2,200 for the two nights. My wife booked a package for both nights which really is more expensive than just buying everything individually.

The main restaurant was very good and the desserts were the highlight of our stay. Be prepared to pay $10 for a bottle of water, the bar is also nice but a Tito's vodka and tonic will set you back $14 plus gratuity.

Problem is when we went to check out they had not only charge us the package rate but had gone ahead and charged us for almost everything that came with it a second time so our bill was like $2,500 when we originally went to check out. The cute little Spanish girl did not understand a thing we were saying about the bill and got an older American woman. She made us feel like we were wrong and maybe even cheap and the whole experience was embarrassing. She finally realized they had totally screwed up and barely apologized. Again this all took place in front on other guests and considering I was about to charge $2,000+ on my AX for 2 nights should not have had to been embarrassed and my wife felt very awkward. .

So if you want to go to a small boutique hotel, over pay, stay with a whole lot of pretentious guests for the most part this is the place for your. As for us we would rather go to a true luxury hotel that is not living off it name and people who just like to brag about what they spend.

My room was beautiful with a comfortable bed, huge bathroom, and nice amenities like fruit basket, coffee machine, and fireplace in the room. Having said that, it cost $600+/night, so these premium touches should be included. At times service was excellent (front desk at check in), but other areas (private room for dinner and bar) were severely understaffed which meant our steaks came out cold and bright red, and there was nobody to send them back with.
Most importantly - WARNING - was the $60/night resort fee that showed up on my final bill. What I asked about it, they said it is mandatory and didn't apologize or back down. I complained that I hadn't been warned about it at booking (through AMEX Platinum) or at check-in. I was (and still am) clearly unhappy and they didn't back down one bit. In fact, they researched for days, blamed AMEX, and finally found a the spot where it said there would be 10% in taxes and fees (which on my $600+/night room = $60+/night). To be clear, I would understand if there was 10% in taxes (to support St. Michaels and the state of MD), but this was not a tax, it was a surprise resort fee which is pure profit for the hotel.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and providing us with an opportunity to address your concern. We apologize for the service shortcomings that you experienced in our Dining Room. With regard to resort fees, all reservations carry a 10% fee which is clearly stated on our website and shared on all confirmations. This fee allows our guests to experience a very wide variety of activities such as kayak tours, yoga classes, painting classes by local artisans and tastings that include wine, whisky and more. We also are happy to provide our guests with a number of leisure amenities such as paddle boards, bikes as well as a complimentary parking and valet service to and from town at no additional charge. Typically our guests take full advantage of the activities that we offer and in fact often share with us how comprehensive and varied our daily activities schedule is. We regret that you did not have a chance to enjoy the offerings on hand during this past visit but would welcome the opportunity to personally look after your reservation on future visits. Please contact my office directly to make your booking.
