We made a dinner reservation and asked if they had a room for one night which they did, score! So the rooms here are very period correct, creaky/slanted floors, but this building has been a Inn of some sort for 270 years! The dinning rooms are almost fully lite by candle light, another charming part of the Inn. The prix fixe menu has choices at all three course's and two amuse's come out as well. The current chef is doing a beautiful job the food was flavorful, creative and hot, with proper time between course's it made for a unrushed two hour dinner. You could spend the whole night just reading the wine list, lot's of choices, must be quite a cellar as some bottles were up too $3700 yikes! Eating here is not cheap and the restaurant is far ahead of the Inn. If your looking for a treat or special occasion this would be a great choice! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did !

Candlelight dinner, 5 stars, the Chef & Proprietor is a top chef. The staff led by Host, James and wait staff are the very best. Dinner here is a wonderful experience, it is expensive but you actually get what you pay for & well worth it. Perfect for special occasions, very romantic setting but be great for friends & family as well. We had the Halibut & being form the Coast of Maine, it is rare for me to get seafood so far inland, Peter's ability to prepare food ranks with the very best & was a five star dinner.
We were there for dinner so really can not answer the Hotel questions but seems nice.

A gastronomic delight and a wonderful experience. Attention to detail in every respect. Matthew was a wonderful server and never rushed us to order. The food was so well prepared with interesting and unusual pairings and served hot. Romantic candlelight ambience. We were a party of four and could have conversations that were heard. We went on a rainy night and called ahead to inquire about a handicap entrance. Most obliging and told us to come in the ramp near the kitchen. We had been here pre Covid and wanted to come back. We drove an hour because we remembered how special and delicious the meal and the evening were. Old Inn on the Green never disappoints..it only invites and treats. Well worth the money!

As UK tourists travelling around New England this is an unusual hotel to stay in
Recommended by US friends who had dined here some while ago but more importantly not stayed
The main Residence is the dining area for dinner while our room was in a separate old house .This has steep stairs to the upper rooms something we were aware of so left our large suitcases in the car overnight
There are 5 bedrooms of differing size and appearance and 2 communal sitting rooms downstairs mainly unused
The room itself follows the decor of the age of the house -don’t expect tech and adjustable heating/ AC -only a few windows actually can be opened
In fact it took a call to the main house to turn down the ceiling heat vent- centrally controlled -which was slowly roasting us - as a result the bathroom was cold in the morning
There are no facilities in the room for making any hot drinks an amenity we missed the next morning as breakfast is at a small cafe a 10 minute drive away
We were provided with a thermos of hot water after dinner after some asking
No safe in the room
The dinner was excellent -beautifully presented and cooked with a couple of extra tasting treats all enjoyed by candlelight
Most of the main food sources from outside the US . Extensive wine list to complement
I cannot fault the delicious dinner or service
Take a torch with you as the walk back after to the house is very dark
Sadly we didn’t check the account that we thought we had booked for our stay that evening so when it was emailed several hours after breakfast we were not able to understand it
Several extra charges had been added and not identified and as as there is NO ONE in the main residence in the mornings to explain ( the place was deserted like the “Marie Celeste” we sent an email asking for an explanation
To date we have had no explanation or reply
To date we have had NOT had a reply
It seems in this area of the US extra charges can be added with no explanation

The room we were assigned to was uninhabitable. It looked adorable when we entered, but the noise above us was terrible. No one could relax or sleep in that room, even with earplugs and a sound machine. We asked to switch rooms, but they had nothing else available. The owner did not offer a refund or an apology. Do not stay in this hotel. It's probably charming for dinner, and we were bummed to have to leave and miss our reservation, but the Old in the title is an understatement!

This historic inn has delicious food. Do not book here if you have any physical difficulties. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience due to their mistake. I called at least a week in advance and made a reservation for a king on the first floor. I gave them my credit card number. This was to celebrate my husband's birthday. My husband had just had knee surgery and could not do stairs. When we arrived we were told we did NOT have that reservation, even though I made the reservation with some man over the phone and explicitly explained the necessity of the first floor room.I We were then asked if we could take a room on the second floor. No we could not. We were told the downstairs room was not ready yet. It should take about 40 minutes and to wait in the common room. Meredith came flying out of the adjacent house walked up to the front door and slammed it. We waited almost an hour and a half. When I finally knocked on the door and complained that we had been waiting a long time. Meredith told me this was our fault, we did not have a reservation and stop persecuting her or words to that effect. Dinner was great. The waiter was great. Then in the a.m. when she printed out the statement I was shocked to see that the bill was $200 more than the $385. We had some drinks but not $200 worth. When I asked her about it, she tried to explain and I was confused so she finally said "Do you want me to get the bill? You clearly don't believe me." I was absolutely shocked at her rudeness. This is not the way to treat customers. We never will go again or recommend it, because of Meredith's rudeness. Also very unsafe walking up to the Thayer house. Boulders for steps and no railing. And the Inn steps are so steep it was a challenge walking up to the front door. Definitely not for older or physically compromised people. Or those used to being treated nicely.

We’ve eaten here three times in the last 10 years and each time was wonderful. It’s a unique experience as the dining rooms are lit only by candle light. The food is absolutely exquisite. It’s a prefix menu with three courses with additional canapés included. Wait staffs excellent too. One of our visits was during the holidays in December, for our anniversary, and it was snowing. That one was unbeatable but, can’t wait to dine there again.

One of the most excellent dining experiences we've had. We were there on a rainy Saturday night as guests of dear friends, and it was a lovely visit with them. The drive thought the quiet, lush countryside helped make it an extraordinary evening. Thank you to the extremely courteous staff who were attentive but didn't rush us. Thank you, Matthew. Unbelievably delicious dinner, artistically presented, with many extra courses. Charming candlelight ambiance. Quiet so that we could talk during dinner. One special treat was a HOT coffee cup! Not only the coffee, but the cup was hot. Hot bread, too, brought up from Tribecca in NYC. The meal was perfect from the beginning to the end. What a wonderful evening. It's rare to have such an amazing dinner with fabulous service The chefs and staff get 5 stars from us. Thank you to everyone at The Inn on the Green for offering a delightful evening in every way. (However, a grown up potty would be nice! Ha.)

When we were escorted to our table we were first inwardly disappointed to see we were to be seated in the very crowded bar instead of one of the side rooms with a fireplace. Our disappointment was quickly dispelled as we were seated at a tight, but comfortable round table. The people at the bar were seated very soon after our arrival and we were about to embark on a culinary adventure. First we were treated to some light canapés. Menus were handed out and drink orders were taken. After the drinks arrived and our dinner orders were taken we were again treated to an amazing small appetizer. Dinner followed within n a reasonable amount of time but not too fast. Our waiter was amazing, knowledgeable, and personable. The food was a wonderful blend of flavors and textures and cooked to perfection. And as if everything about the dinner wasn’t amazing enough, the other star of the evening was the Inn itself. Candle chandeliers adore every room, every table. The coziness of the setting made dinner with friends all the more special.

We had an amazing dinner at the historic Inn on the Green. Matthew, our attentive waiter, and the rest of the staff made our dinner very special. The three course prix fixe ($75.00) was delicious. Each course was outstanding. We both opted for the veal cheeks as our entree. We had never had them before. They were tender and delicious. Appetizers and desserts were equally delicious.
In our small dining room, one of four dining rooms, there were just 5 tables. By absolute coincidence three of the five tables were celebrating their October 16th wedding anniversary. We were celebrating #46, as was the couple at the next table. The table behind us was occupied by folks celebrating their first. What are the odds - 3 couples celebrating 10/16 as their anniversary. When the “newlyweds” left another young couple replaced them. They, too, were celebrating their anniversary a day ahead of time. Our small dining room was certainly “alive!” Folks in the other 3 small dining rooms were wondering what they were missing in our dining room. FYI - this wonderful inn is in the middle of nowhere, but it’s worth the trip.

I don't know if they allow dogs. I would call the inn on a land line to ask. The internet and wireless service is terrible at the Inn. They might not ever get your email.

I don't have a menu - but there is both a prix fixe and an a la carte menu. The a la carte is very extensive, and I believe could satisfy anyone's needs.
