I stayed 3 nights at the Essex Street Inn. There are 2 houses, one with the check-in and breakfast area. The double bed in my room was comfortable with double pillows, so you could lean against the iron headboard comfortably. This bedroom is on the 2nd floor - note you need to be able to walk upstairs to access rooms on the 2nd floors. The shower in my room was small but adequate. The room has a tv, closet and Keurig. The breakfast is basic but available each morning. You have to walk from house to house if you are in the one without the breakfast area. The inn is within easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants.
I recently got married in the Newburyport area and held one of my two wedding room blocks at Essex Street Inn. From my initial outreach through checkout at the end of the weekend, the team at Essex Street in, especially Kathy, could not have been any nicer and accommodating. I even gave Kathy a hug when we departed as she had been so kind and helpful along the way. My guests all loved the inn and commented how nice the breakfast and eating area was each morning. My husband and I stayed in the bridal suite and the room was so perfect for our needs with a full kitchen, living room and outdoor patio. We really loved the room and would love to come back in the winter time to use the fireplace. Some of the more basic rooms are nothing special but get the job done and are clean and comfortable. On-site parking was also a big plus. Location also can't be beat with easy walkability to pretty much everything in downtown Newburyport. Overall we had a really wonderful experience with Essex Street Inn and look forward to returning. …
Room was super cozy and comfortable. Loved the upstairs/ downstairs setup. The robes were a nice touch. Keurig coffee maker in the room was perfect for an early departure. Would stay there again. Historic feel with modern amenities. Was very quiet at night. I think they roll up the streets after 10pm :)
Just so you know, you will get charged at $15 “destination fee” on to your regular reservation fee. Don’t know what this is, or why it was added on, but I prefer to know he real cost of my stay before booking. Other than this it was a nice place to stay.
Picked this for a quick romantic getaway anniversary overnight. Nice ambiance. The room was comfortable with a charming old world nautical theme. We stayed in a room with a queen bed, gas fireplace, and jetted tub for 2. The bed was very comfortable and the room well-organized. It was a Friday night and the hotel wasn't full; it was quieter than I expected for an in-town location. The service was friendly and helpful. There was an assortment of breakfast foods. The off-street parking is a little tight and we saw another guest struggling to park their big truck, so maybe bring a smaller vehicle if you have a choice. A bit more bed-and-breakfast than the usual for this brand, but a pleasant surprise.
My family's had a cottage out on Plum Island for decades. When I was a kid, we stayed at the Inn for three weeks while major repairs were happening. I absolutely loved it then. Haven't had cause to return until last night when the fuse box blew and the temps drove us out. The Inn's undergone some changes since that last stay but it's still warm and charming and the improvements (many ports to charge things! great bathrooms! comfortable furniture inside room and out) are terrific. We couldn't have been more impressed and pleased. And I'm THRILLED to be able to refer friends who come to visit (small PI cottage, did I mention?) here, rather than an AirBnb or overpriced and underdone hotel experience elsewhere. Gracious, generous staff and services. All around A+.
Absolutely lovely stay! If you want the comfort of a traditional New England home this is perfect. And the staff is more than accommodating. The breakfast area was clean, organized with a diverse selection. The amenities in the room allowed a full desk area, coffee maker and fridge. Literally within the downtown charm.
My wife and I had a quick stay over on New Year's Eve. The experience was very positive/friendly at check in and the suite was cozy and very clean. Parking was tight but we lucked out with a parking spot outback. We wold definitely stay there again. Great location from downtown too.
I have stayed at the Essex Street Inn multiple times. The location is great. Convenient walk to dinner, shops, and the water. I have always found my room to be clean, and my bed comfortable. My only complaint would be occasional street noise from people talking late and loud- or maybe the parking situation which can be pretty difficult on busy nights.
First time ever staying at an Inn..the location was excellent for shopping and walking to eat..the room and common area were very clean..nice people are vey friendly and helpful at check in and when something was needed..we had the room with the fireplace and whirlpool tub and it was very nice..better than staying at the big chain hotels
