My husband and I recently stayed 3 nights at the Staveleigh House Bed & Breakfast.

Although we were nervous about traveling these days, our Staveleigh House room was very clean and had its own entrance. The Innkeepers (Chris and Mike) were very friendly and practiced social distancing/wore masks inside the house and in our presence.

At no point did we feel uncomfortable being there.

The public areas of the house were very charming and the breakfast room was bright with fresh flowers on each table. There was only one other couple staying there at the time and they sat on the opposite side of the dining room. We felt comfortable dining inside for the first time in many months.

The grounds were lush and they had a large flower garden full of phlox. There were Adirondack chairs for relaxing on the lawn.

The breakfasts were freshly-prepared, locally sourced and large portions (two courses). Our delicious meals during our stay were (1) baked apple stuffed with raisins followed by cheese quiche, (2) cantaloupe followed by French toast and sausage, and (3) honeydew melon followed by scrambled eggs with goat cheese on sourdough bread.

Chris and Mike gave us great advice on restaurants in the area. We enjoyed every one of their recommendations (Aegean Breeze, Café Adam and John Andrews). They also gave useful information for visiting Bash Bish Falls and suggested other local hikes.

All in all, we found Staveleigh House to be welcoming and restful, and our hosts were warm and helpful.

We look forward to visiting again at different times of the year.

Thank you, Chris and Mike, for a wonderful stay at Staveleigh House!

We needed a weekend away and had a beautiful stay at the Staveleigh House. This is a terrific bed and breakfast in a great region with so much to see and do. Located on the main road in Sheffield, you can easily drive a short distance to Great Barrington and Stockbridge where you can find a great choice of restaurants. We have stayed at many B & Bs and Inns over the years, and Chris and Mike are exceptional hosts. They take a great deal of pride in what they do, and they execute flawlessly. We were in Room 1 which is spacious and comfortable with a private bath. Every detail is thought through in a meticulous way. Breakfast is served between 8 and 10 am and the two meals we enjoyed were wonderful. Delicious coffee, juice and fruit followed by one of Chris' creative main courses: we had a delicious homemade quiche one morning and a scrambled eggs and goat cheese dish served atop the local sourdough bread on Sunday. Both excellent. And, by the way, really good coffee and an incredible selection of tea. Great way to start the day. They serve the bread from the local bakery (Berkshire Mountain Bakery). Good stuff: we came home with two Berkshire loaves purchased at the Great Barrington farmers market. The Staveleigh has been there since 1820 and Mike will be happy to tell you the complete history. He and Chris became custodians of this hospitality legacy seven years ago (after serious careers elsewhere) and they certainly seem to love what they do. Mike was very helpful in recommending local restaurants, hikes, shopping and sightseeing. I must point out that they are absolutely COVID compliant. Masks, gloves, contactless check-in and check-out, but somehow they do not lose the personal touch in the process. You feel like you are staying with good friends, albeit at an acceptable social distance. Highly recommend. Next time we are in the Berkshires, we will return without hesitation.

The Staveleigh House was absolutely perfect for my solo travels. The main house is clean and cozy, and it's located right off of the main street (don't worry it's not noisy) so there's easy access to food, shops, and hiking trails. I stayed in Room 6 which had THE most comfortable mattress I have EVER slept on, two reading chairs (perfect for teleworking), a connected private bathroom, and a private entrance from the garden. Mike and Chris are wonderful hosts who made sure I was comfortable and provided excellent suggestions for hikes and things to do around town. Chris is a truly superb cook and made the most delicious breakfasts. Highly recommend staying here! You will not be disappointed.

I stayed here with my husband and mother-in-law for 4 nights in August. The innkeepers are very welcoming and followed Covid protocols very well. Breakfast, such as fresh fruit, vegetable frittatas, muffins, scrambled eggs over sourdough and goat cheese, as well pancakes was delicious. We stayed in the two adjoining pet- friendly rooms with our two dogs. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The grounds are also very spacious and beautiful. They also have a fenced in yard for our dogs to run around. We will definitely return and highly recommend that you stay here when you visit the Berkshires! It’s also close to everything... great restaurants, hiking trails, and more!

Not only are Chris and Mike fantastic hosts, but this Is by far the best bed and breakfast we have experienced. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the food is great and we were treated like family. A much needed respite from the craziness of our world today.

We staged our wedding from Staveleigh House, and stayed over as well. Chris and Mike were ideal hosts. The inn is immaculately decorated, perfectly clean, cosy and calm.
We will definitely return.
Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I just got back from the 4th of July weekend. We book our trips around the James Taylor Concert every year at Tanglewood. We booked the Staveleigh six months in advance. When we got there, to our surprise, there were new innkeepers. (We will miss you Ali)! As soon as we pulled in Mike (one of the new owners) popped his head out the back door and welcomed us. We soon were introduced to his wife Chris as we walked in the front door. We were stunned to find out that Ali had sold the inn, but adjusted to the new owners very quickly as they were very gracious and kind. Chris is a breakfast genius. I don't usually eat breakfast but I couldn't help myself 2 out of the 3 days, because it was so good. I might note that I am not a morning person, and I dragged myself out of bed at 9am to make sure I did not miss it. They are still a bit wet behind the ears, as they have only been there 2 weeks, but I am quite sure they will work out the quirks as time goes by. They were more concerned about them than we were. That only shows that they care about their guests and think about all of the little details. They were open to listening to suggestions and the only thing I would suggest is a common refrigerator where we could access some cold bottled water at any time of the night or day as that is a necessity that we would have liked. Other than that, we are looking forward to a weekend in the fall to see the fantastic foliage in October. Thanks so much Mike and Chris for a super weekend of food and new friends. We will be back! Nicki and Tony.

One always wonders what they will encounter when they return to a "favorite" Bed and Breakfast knowing that is operating under new ownership. The Staveleigh House's new owners, Mike and Chris, have big shoes to fill...but after staying there for a 3-day weekend, we left feeling like we were long lost members of their family! Mike and Chris are extraordinarily attentive to guest needs and take the time to elicit suggestions on how your stay could be better. We enjoyed our stay to such a degree, that I didn't really know what to say. We were a little nervous about the food because the previous owners had wonderful breakfasts. To be honest, while Ali's breakfast was great, Chris's breakfast is to die for! Breakfast is served from 8:00 - 10:00 and late sleepers should be motivated to get out of bed!

The rooms are no different than they were when it was operated by the previous owners. The décor is warm, inviting and tastefully furnished with antiques. Our room had a fireplace, an in-room private bath and a private entrance. Down comforters adorn the beds...and are just perfect on cool mornings.

For us, the perfect weekend involves not much more than wandering aimlessly through antiques stores. The property is ideally situated on Main St., and is but a stone's-throw from Sheffield's antique shopping! If we don't feel like antiquing, there is no shortage of things to do! Tanglewood, the Norman Rockwell Museum, outdoor cafes, restaurants, hikes, nature trails, even a 9-hole golf course...it's all nearby. However you decide to spend your time, the Staveleigh House is a wonderful way to finish any particular day.

Kudos to Mike and Chris! They have big shoes to fill and they're doing it well! It goes without saying, we will return!

When I stay at a B + B I look for 3 things, owner friendliness, breakfast quality, and room comfort; The Staveleigh House knocked all 3 out of the park!! We stayed for 2 nights being in town for a wedding and we cant imagine that there would have been a better place to stay! The owners are so nice and welcoming, they had fresh gingerbread and iced tea waiting for us. The breakfast were a fritata with potatoes and cornbread on one day and a belgian waffle with whipped cream and berries on the other day; Both were exceptional. The room had a very comfortable king bed, an air conditioner, free wifi, and cable TV. All of which were necessary during our stay. My wife and I will definitely stay here again if we ever come back into town.
