My mother and I made a last minute trip to the Piere Marquette Lodge to knock steelhead caught on fly gear off the bucket list. We were blessed with an un believable experience of a lifetime. Our guide, Casey, is like Willy Wonka and the PM is his chocolate factory. He turns it into MAGIC! I would highly ask if he is available when you plan your next trip. I know I will.
I came to Michigan for Christmas vacation and our group decided to try some fishing. Not completely familiar with the laws/regulations I inadvertently used a motor in an area I was not suppose to. Their guide Bryan/Ryan (not sure which one) berated us. For a person representing your business, the sport of fishing, and ultimately even Michigan; I was honestly appalled. I read the fishing guide and thought I understood. What might seem simple for someone familiar with Michigan’s signage, regulations, and laws...can be completely foreign to out of state’ers. Bryan/Ryan please forgive us for being human.
A very un-customer service friendly cancellation policy. 100% of your nights if you do not inform in writing 14 days prior. I booked 6 days prior on phone and not told this would have not have booked this if known. Asked to meet halfway and told we are a small business?
Well-stocked fly shop with knowledgeable staff. Mainly Orvis, some Patagonia. Multiple types of rooms: lodge, houses, cabins: all clean, and “up-north” log-cabin style. Meeting room available for groups. Room air-conditioners for the occasional hot night. Great fly-fishing guides, with lots of local knowledge & experience on the PM (which is why you go here, really!). Car spotting available. River backs up to property, boat access near-by. Challenging river, with resident brown trout, and seasonal salmon & steelhead runs. (But you probably knew that too.). Helpful, courteous all around.
Frank Willetts, and his team of guides and store/lodge personnel, provided us a fantastic experience. The store was well stocked and the staff was knowledgeable. The lodge was organized and provided what we were looking for. There was some confusion regarding the kitchen clean up, but certainly not a deal breaker. As for the guides, Frank, Casey, and Kyle were fantastic. All knew the river well, offered quality suggestions, and were professional and polite. Also good cooks. They understand customer service. Great experience, worth the trip from southern California. Thanks guys.
