Shanty Creek offers alot of flexibility in courses, lodging, dining, and other activity. It's courses range from top tier (Legend, Cedar River,) to very modiest yet playable. It is a set up both for families or golf buddy trips. They usually will work to help your schedule though sometimes their prices can run a little steep. Staff is very good.

Shanty creek May be a skiers delight
but outside of ski season it is a golfer’s dream. Shanty Creek features five terrific golf courses, all within a few mile radius of the Resort just outside Bellaire, MI. Staying in a condo (Snowshoe) for two weeks, we thoroughly enjoyed our Michigan getaway from golfing to day trips to quaint small towns in the Chain of Lakes and along Grand Traverse Bay, as well as, Leelanau Peninsula. This is our fifth visit to the area and Shanty Creek Resort is consistently good base.
Our three favorite golf courses are The Legend (Arnold Palmer design) that offers a variety of challenges in the rolling terrain, Cedar River (Tom Weiskopf) has its own uniqueness and the back nine has the excitement of three par-5’s and 3 par 5’s, then Hawk’s Eye bring adds another dimension with its challenges.
The Resort has several dining options from just a quick sandwich to Shanty Town to gourmet dinner at the Lakeview Inn. On our visit, weekends were very busy but during the week it was usually very quiet. Restaurants in Shanty Town were only open later in the week and weekends. While other restaurants - River Bistro it was very quiet with just a few diners. The resort offers a variety of accommodations from hotel room to multi-bedroom condo. Plus they have a great pool and various other resort facilities.

Stayed in Ridgewalk 610 for a week. Location was great, close to Lakeview Hotel and with great views of Lake Bellair. The condition of the unit was disappointing. Condos are quite out-dated, and level of maintenance is below par. Bathroom faucet was loose, not attached to counter. Tubs and showers showed mold spots on shower curtains and on tiles. Kitchen supplies were a little hit or miss compared to what were used to at Vacation Club at Shanty Creek.

Service from the front desk and housekeeping staff we spoke to was great, however, so I appreciate the staff at Shanty Creek Resort. Skiing was great as usual at Schuss Mountain.

We have children & easily fill the tiny garbages in the rooms. When I asked the cleaning ladies in the hall why our room wasn’t cleaned or at least the garbages emptied , they told me that we must’ve had the DND sign up , which we didn’t . Then the second time I called I was told they wouldn’t clean because of COVID and they couldn’t empty our garbage because “ they don’t know what’s in there “
. It’s garbAge !!! Take it out or give me a discount. Just another way to do less ! Won’t be back .

Tried to reserve with a phone call. Reservations tried to get us to commit to a much more expensive room with fireplace. Asked 3 different times for something less, no, there was nothing. So, did an online reservation got a completely different option & much more reasonable in price. Front desk did not program our key cards correctly. Had to wait for a reset on those, After 1/2 unpacking, realized that the refrigerator did not cool. Front desk decided to move us down the hallway. First room 277, had an unusually small bathroom countertop, with no under sink shelf. Second room had a much larger countertop. More user friendly for sure. No clock, although the microwave has a small clock. No paper, or pens, no booklet of information. Checked online information, not much there either. No complementary coffee in lobby. Just crappy Folgers in the room brewer. Swimming pool -outside & inside. No changing area for either one. The pool has a small hot tub. It is on one side of the Summit Village, the workout room, saunas, & spa are all the way on the other side of the building. Toilet was not correctly bolted down, & moved. Not sure if we will ever go back.

My boyfriend and I stayed here just for 2 nights. We wish we could have stayed longer! There were quite a few things we could have taken advantage of like the free shuttle that takes you into town and back. We stayed here with plans to drive out to Traverse City for a wine tour and it was still not a bad drive! The Bellaire town was small but cute with a few restaurants and shops. The view was amazing with the fall foliage. I would recommend!

I have taken many ski trips, some alone, some with family or friends. This one was the worst ever. I would give the resort a zero if the ratings went that low.

My daughter and I skied for about an hour at the Summit slopes and then encountered a lift problem. As we reached the top of the hill, the chair lurched hard to the side and my daughter couldn’t get off right away. I waited an extra second or two for her. I found my skis in the air when she got off, so I jumped. This did not end well; I pulled a hamstring and was done skiing for the weekend, as well as the next two…so far.

My daughter told the lift attendant about the chair lurching and he said, “yeah, it does that.” So why hasn’t it been fixed? Before my injury, it seemed like the chair was stopping a lot. Maybe for the same reason?

I asked for a full refund for lodging and lift tickets, since the chair problem ruined our trip. My request was refused. I wrote to Shanty Creek after getting home, making the same request; I did not get a return message. I basically wasted $900+ on a failed ski weekend.

There were other problems. I have made trips to Shanty Creek three times in the last five years. Each time, two of the best front-side runs have been closed off for racing. This place isn’t that big; that cuts off much of the best free skiing. No discounts for limiting the available runs, either.

The breakfast buffet was 18.50 for adults, 16.50 for teenagers. The offerings were meager and the food was of poor quality, featuring dry waffles, dry pancakes, and dry French toast. My leftovers from the freezer are better. If you must go to Shanty Creek, skip the buffet and bring your own food for breakfast.

Having also visited here back in the 1990’s, I would say that this resort has declined in quality and in customer service a great deal over the years. It used to be nice. Used to be. I do not see us coming back.

We had a wonderful time visiting with my bother and his wife. The unit they supplied us had very few steps to get in since we requested it. my wife had double knee replacement 5 months before our stay and my sister in law just finished chemo for cancer.

We were traveling with 4 adults, 1 infant and a dog. We were given a 2 bedroom condo in Trappers Lodge. We were told a flight of stairs were necessary to get to the condo - this in fact were 5-6 flights of stairs and an additional flight of stairs inside the condo. The stairs outside the condo were loose and falling off- major safety hazard. We were also told the condo had 2 full baths. The condo had 1 1/2 baths. The bedrooms were located upstairs and did not have any fans or any ac. It was extremely hot. A cabinet door fell off during our stay due to wood rotting that was determined to be from a water leak from the ice maker in the fridge. Upon arrival, the deck was covered with debris. The unit was extremely outdated decor wise, constant issues with the cable going in and out and just overall mediocre. This was a costly reservation to have such a mediocre experience. Would not recommend Trappers lodge in Summit Village. If you are disabled there would not have been any option to get to the condo. This needs a major overall.

We were only 8 minutes from Schuss Mountain. Amenities such as pool, hot tube, steam room, and sauna were great. The one BR unit allowed us to sleep 6 people because it had a loft. The on-site restaurant was reasonably priced and has a wonderful view of sunsets. The front desk even had swim wear for sale.
