Arrived late afternoon in Opunake looking for a place to stay and found Headlands hotel. We were lucky as there were only to rooms available. We had to take one of there premium rooms but worth the extra as the space and view was great. Short walk to town, right next to the park leading down to the beach and awesome view...

The thing about Opunake is you haven't got much choice. In the case of this motel the owners have little competition. Little competition means standards can drop and this place is case in point. Reception staff had little grasp of English or at least that's the way they came across. Our room was basic and came with 5 fly's who...

A lovely large spacious room in the "villa" area with all the amenities one needs to relax. A great place to base yourself to go out to visit the beach or walk along the coastal track. The bed was super comfy and would definitely stay there again. Free wifi always a bonus!

Unfussy modern decor, comfortable beds and quality bedding, spacious units, well maintained and spotlessly clean. We've stayed many different places, and this is definitely in the very good category. We'd come back here to stay again.

The accommodation at the hotel is offered in the tower and in the adjacent "villa". There were few guests when we were there, and I think the owner was reluctant to let the tower rooms as this would have meant manning the reception continually, whereas letting the villa rooms allowed her to lock the tower and retire to her nearby...

Thank you for your feedback. We do have 2 very different standard of rooms. The rooms in the tower block of the building are always accessible through main reception area, for guests staying there, all hours, whether reception is open or not. These rooms are a higher tariff per night and upgrades are possible, if available at the time.

Stayed with my young son as we explored Opunake and surrounding region for the weekend in one of the tower suites. Good sized room, fabulous bath and bathroom and super king bed that was comfortable. The owners were friendly and conversational, and I'd definitely stay here again. TV was oddly small and square to the amusement of my young son...

Spent three nights at the end of summer. The quiet relaxed mood of the town is perfectly matched by the hotel. The room in the tower was spacious and, for a beach town off the beaten path, luxurious. The hotel is only a few hundred meters away from beautiful beaches and a lovely garden path along the headlands. Dinner was...

A great place to stop and have lunch. The food was superb and the service friendly and warm. When first driving into Opunake Dad said there was a great cafe... driving down the main street I certainly beg to differ... then WAMO we turned the corner and there is this upmarket cafe/restaurant.. I was very hopeful... what was the food...

Driving around Taranaki we arrived in Opunake in need of lunch. A sign on the road pointed us down to headland hotel and café. We had a really nice, affordable and relaxed lunch there. It was a really nice find. I would love to go back and try the hotel sometime.

Visited for Sunday brunch Quite busy and just had the beer battered blue cod which was great as was the accompanying salad and hand cut fries.Whilst service was average they needed more staff as we would have purchased another bottle of wine, deserts and coffees. That said we were not offended and will return soon.
