The hotel is located in a beautiful part of the Lake District with stunning scenery. We secured a very good deal through Travelzoo for two nights, one of which included a superb 5-course evening meal. Breakfast on both mornings was also excellent. Our room was small but adequate with a modern en-suite bathroom. We found the hotel very comfortable, relaxing...

My husband and I wanted a nice hotel in a beautiful location and this is exactly what we got. The staff are friendly and helpful and our room, the suite, is excellent. We had our meal with them for both evenings and couldn't have asked for more. We are vegan and the chef went beyond expectations to accommodate us. We...

Reception staff were friendly and it was no problem to change our room to a double. A riverside room downstairs was small but it was lovely to see the river outside our window. The decor was a bit dark for the size of room. The bed head was worn and could do with replacing. The staff are what make this...

We stayed overnight at this hotel while on the C2C walk in July of 2016. We arrived in the afternoon after a long day's walk from Ennerdale Bridge. After waiting a bit at the entrance, we received a warm welcome. We ordered a sack lunch for the next day and headed toward a relatively small room. The room was serviceable...

Beautiful Hotel located in the Borrowdale Valley. Staff are always pleasant and go out of their way to make you feel at home. Food is unbelievably good and they gave us some extra courses to try. Being the Lakes, they are of course dog friendly and always make a fuss of our four legged companion who loved to lay by...

Based in the heart of borrowdale valley this us an ideal location to explore the many walks in this area. Dog friendly. Rooms are clean and tidy. Restaurant is nice and the river side bar has an open fire to warm you up after a days walking.

Just returned from a two night break at the Scafell Hotel. Intention was to find somewhere to get a little peace and quiet and this hotel met the criteria perfectly. Staff and all other guests were lovely and friendly and we particularly enjoyed the warmth and charm of the cocktail bar. The Riverside bar next door was also nice with...

The Scafell Hotel is now probably my favourite hotel in the Lake District. As regular walkers it is brilliantly located in the stunning Borrowdale valley with great access to high or low level walks (if the weather is bad). You can walk straight from the hotel and get high on the fells if you wish or alternatively drive further a...

We attended for a weekend break away and we were not disappointed . The location of the hotel is just fantastic , nestled in between the mountains making for a fantastic view at breakfast or any time of the day. The room was warm and cosy with the one we had above the bar, this caused no issues with noise...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District's renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here. Our rooms were fully refurbished during 2010, in a Warm and Rich Country House style with a 'Contemporary Twist' perfect for setting the scene for a peaceful and relaxing break in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The Restaurant, Lounges and Bar have been tastefully decorated and furnished to retain that all important Country House warmth, allowing for complete relaxation after a great days walking on the Fells, and maybe even a little 'nap' by the fire after a delicious five course Dinner. Under the constant direction of owner's Miles Jessop MBE (Chairman) and Andrew Nelson (Managing Director) the Management and Team of Scafell Hotel offer truly warm and friendly service. Individual and Independent Country House Hotel for the last 44 years. ... more   less
