Ask for a South East/ Detroit facing room because you get an amazing view of Detroit which made the entire stay worth every penny. The location is in a slightly questionable area with unkept lawns and ran down homes but the casino complex is very safe with lots of security. The hotel is steps from a food court with Chinese food and Little Caesars and two restaurants. The valet was closed but the parking structure is free and monitored by security. The room itself had a soft bed (not firm), the doors are heavy and slam shut and the walls thin so it makes for a loud stay. The TV allows for steaming from your phone which is really easy to set up. The room and bathroom are large and spacious as well as clean but not overly clean like they needed to dust and clean the stains in the carpet.

Overall this hotel is good. I’m just gonna do a checklist of whats important when we book hotel.

Room-clean
Bed-comfy
Refrigerator-yes
Microwave-no
Bathroom-clean
Toilet-doesn't clog/clean
Shower-great water pressure/they have a separate tub
Air-condition - works good/not noisy
Smell - since it’s a casino, you can still smell smoke even thou its a non smoking room. Also its doesn’t smell bad or weird.
Area is somewhat safe.
Pool - no pool at this property

I stayed here for 2 nights while in town visiting family. Garage parking is free and easily accessible. The staff member that checked us in was very personable and gave us a nice corner room with a jetted tub. My main issue with this property was housekeeping. While walking to our room we passed a housekeeper coming out of a room she was cleaning pouring a bag of chips in her mouth. Not sure how one can clean a room and sanitize while also eating. Simply put- this was ghetto and unprofessional. Then, the next morning I was awakened at 9am by housekeepers in the hall having a very loud argument, cursing each other out, calling each other obscene names and saying F these rooms I don't give a F about these people. I was just waiting to hear an all out fight based on the things being said incredibly loud right outside my door. It was disgusting and again, very ghetto and unprofessional. It's evident that professionalism and basic respect for people paying money to sleep here is not a requirement of the job at all. Housekeeping is a bunch of ghetto women likely doing the bare minimum to collect a check. If you are celebrating something special or looking for an upscale stay, Motorcity is simply not it. For my purposes and already low expectations, it served its purpose for a very short stay where we spent limited time here beyond sleeping at night. Luckily we had our own clorox wipes because I absolutely do not trust staff here to take the necessary steps to clean properly or efficiently. I'm a native Detroiter that's been gone for almost 2 decades and experiences like this make it hard to root for home and advocate for folks visiting and giving the city a chance.

I’ll start with this, I loved Motor City until I discovered they don’t change the linen. There was BLOOD on the linen in my room that surely did not come from me. Generally, I sleep on top of the covers so the bed doesn’t usually get too messed up. Well this time I must’ve been moving about because the linen became undone near the bottom of the bed and revealed another renter left their blood and possibly other body fluids. I was mortified. Issue was reported, linen changed and I did her from them again. Not a follow-up, not a comp, NOTHING. I think because I booked 3rd party, I’m not getting the service one would get if they booked with the hotel. I booked via a discounted booking service offered by an employer; which made the room not as expensive. I’m pointing this out because at check-in the desk agent made a point to announce my room was paid in full through a third party. What does that have to do with anything? A word of caution always check the linen. If this is the practice at Motor City Hotel & Casino, you know other places are likely engaging in this health hazardous practice. Be careful out here people.
Looking at the pics you can see the linen still tucked in from when they made the bed. Absolutely disgusting. The 1 star is because they don’t allow 0 stars.

My wife and I booked this hotel for a concert and she wanted a hotel with a spa and I wanted to play a little poker while she was at the spa.

When I booked this hotel the front desk never informed me about a strike that is going on at the hotel and casino. We had to leave the hotel on 3 separate occasions and we got yelled at by the striking workers. Also with the workers being on strike the poker room and spa are closed along with other services and the hotel gift shop.

I also booked the stay and play package and was supposed to get $40 of free credit to play with at the hotel but they don’t tell you that you have to go sign up for their casino card and provide them with all of your personal information. It took well over an hour because there was only 1 worker working the desk at the casino. Definitely not worth the $40.

Also at check in we waited just over 45 mins to check in because of only one worker at the front desk trying to check in everybody.

I called the front desk in the morning and the hotel manager “Frank or Fred” did not care about any of my concerns and would not provide me with a discount on our room knowing full well that the hotel was not operating at 100% with many amenities of the hotel being closed because of the strike. Would have been nice to get a discount or a free night when hotel is operating at 100%. I told the manager that I would not return to this hotel and he basically said ok that’s fine and hung up. Never seen such unprofessional hotel manager in my life.

My friends and family go to Detroit for NHL,MLB,NFL and concerts and this manger has lost our business. I will be spreading the word on this hotel. What a shame because we did like this hotel having stayed here multiple times until running into this hotel manager.

First two rooms weren’t clean. Front desk manager was antagonistic about either changing or cleaning them. Not much to ask to get a clean room, except here apparently it is too much to ask. Can’t comment about casino, hotel staff was so bad I didn’t gamble here. Other places nearby were better, friendlier and cleaner. Lesson learned

I stayed at the Motor City Casino Hotel from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025. Attached is a photo of the sink in my room, which was never addressed despite my complaints about the difficulties I experienced with basic tasks like brushing my teeth and shaving.

This was in a Deluxe Suite, yet it came with a poor parking lot view, which added to my disappointment. As a national executive who travels extensively, this is the first review I’ve ever written in 25 years of hotel stays.

I was hoping to hear from management with an apology or, at the very least, an offer for a one-day room stay as a gesture to show that my experience was an isolated issue. Unfortunately, I never received a call or email. Based on my experience and other reviews I’ve read, it seems guest concerns are not a priority.

A word of caution: think carefully before choosing this location.

Extremely disappointed in every way.
Don't make the same mistake I did.
Pick one of the many cheaper and higher quality options in the area.
Charged $300 per night for luxury experience and every luxury offering was closed for the entire 3 night stay.
All restaurants closed, spa closed, no room service, no microwave to reheat food we had to buy outside of hotel. No shuttle service. Walls extremely thin. Lost entire night of sleep due to overnight party next door. Hairs not cleaned from bedding. Carpets stained everywhere. Toiletries not restocked. Employees blocked access to parking. Front desk ignored my call to seek resolution. VP ignored my voicemail to seek resolution. Do yourself a favor, never stay at the Motor City Casino Hotel.

The hotel itself was very nice. The major problem was the management’s rationale is for only having room cleaned after 3 days. This means that necessary items are only available when requested . This includes making the beds.We spent a lot of money and received very little .The management claimed it’s because of COVID. Poor excuse!!

The room was not cleaned well! Bathtub had been used by the previous renter (dirt ring left), bathroom floor needed mopping and the walls in the bathroom needed to be washed. The elevators wasn't clean, an outside smoking area is provided that wasn't maintained often. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating and this is what gave a higher rating.
