We recently stayed at the Pines Motor Lodge. The positive points are as follows: clean room, nicely appointed, great location to Douglas and Saugatuck. The less positive point: the towels are low quality, they did not absorb well and needed to be replaced within one use. This is slightly more complicated as there is no housekeeping during a stay. We asked for towels and did receive them from one of the owners as he was cleaning vacant rooms. The owners are quite friendly and although I might not stay more than a couple nights, I would certainly return to this Lodge.
My husband and I head to Saugatuck/Douglas as our grown ups only getaway from the Detroit area as many times as possible during the season. We have stayed at both the Pines and the Retro Resort at least 30 times over the last 6 years. We always have a fantastic time. Rob and Steve are great and always make us feel welcome! We would not stay anywhere else. The Pines is a great location and within walking distance to great restaurants and galleries in Douglas. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I highly recommend staying with Rob and Steve!
The Saugatauck area is so quaint and there is a lot to do - from riding bikes, paddle boarding to relaxing with wine and live music. Something for everyone. This particular lodge is located in Douglas, MI - a 15 minute walk (or a five minute shuttle ride) from the shops and marina of Saugatauck. My honest review would suggest you spend your hard earned money on different accomodations. The property is relatively clean and tidy. The theme is lost on cheap towels, and lack of attention to the details. The main detail I would expect for anyone in a hospitality business goes beyond towels and decent linens; however, it's being kind and hospitable. The owners Rob and Steve displayed the worst customer service I have ever witnessed when a concern was brought to their attention. It appears, by reviewing others comments below, I am not the only one to experience such brash, unkind, unprofessional behavior. Honestly, not worth the price and headache incurred especially when there are so many other nice places to stay in the area. Enjoy your time in Saugatauck by staying away from the drama of this property!…
My wife and I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Pines Motor Lodge and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience. From the cozy rooms to the friendly and welcoming hotel staff, everything was perfect. We received several recommendations from the hotel, and all were greatly appreciated. The lodge is conveniently located close to both downtown Douglas and Saugatauk where you will find endless dining and shopping options. Lake Michigan and the rest of nature's glory is only a short drive away. Be prepared to be swept back in time at this roadside gem. Leave your cares at home and relax.
This was a great stay. Small but very clean and quaint. I bit pricey for the amenities but your paying for the area and convenience. King size bed was very comfortable. Very close to Saugatuck and shopping.
