The UP of Michigan is simply an amazing place--we have some family friends that live in Escanaba, and I came through here on a long road trip during the summer of 2011. The House of Ludington is everything you could want in a hotel--inexpensive, extraordinarily quaint, beautiful views out to Little Bay de Noc, and within walking distance of the...

Traveled to Escanaba area for pleasure. Had done research on Internet and found this hotel. Sounded like a very quaint hotel with lots of history. Instead, upon our arrival, found a very old hotel that was a" firetrap." Some of the electrical outlets did not work, air conditioner, fireplace and lamp all plugged into same outlet... what a fire hazard......

It's so hard to find a place to start. We were scheduled to stay at the House of Ludington for one night only. We couldn't leave! The rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were soundproof. Yes, the shower took a few minutes to warm up but it was wonderful! The owners Ed and Suzelle were awesome! So...

Ed and Suzell don't operate a chain hotel. I'm glad they don't. I checked in for one night and stayed for three. Rooms are clean. The beds were perfect. Some reviewers spoke of mildew or musty oders. There was only the slightest scent of closed rooms. It dissapeared the moment we occupied our rooms. A reviewer spoke of fire escape...

The hotel is owned and operated by a couple so the service was friendly and personal. They do a lot of catering so the wait staff can get spread pretty thin. Nonetheless I was quite pleased with the level of service. The room was clean and spacious. We had one of the lake view rooms. It turns out the room...

The House of Ludington is not for everyone. It is not "fast food" and there are no kids play areas. Dress is casual if that is what you want and there are two separate areas for seating (one is more "bar" atmosphere, and the other side is more "nice casual to elegant decor." The food is consistently good and that...

I have always loved old, historic places and this hotel was a great find! It was built in the late 1800's and I also heard that it may be haunted, which made me even more excited! The owner, Ed, checked us into our rooms (2 couples, 2 rooms) on the second floor, just up the stairs. He told us we...

We spent a few days in the UP at the end of the year with another couple to enjoy cross country skiing and dog sledding & stayed at the House of Lundington in Escanaba on New Year's Eve. The photos made the place look very charming & romantic but it doesn't live up to the photos. We love older, quaint...

If you make a reservation, be certain you keep it. My husband and I were delayed on our trip due to weather and needed to cancel our plans to stay at the House of Ludington. Giving more than 24 hours notice, I called three times and left messages to cancel and asked that a return call be made to confirm...

Not a bad place, for the money. The manager/owner was very gracious. It's an old building that has not been adequately maintained. But it is quaint and these kinds of places are increasingly rare. It beats the chains in atmosphere! We were there the night of a big local wedding, but noise was not bad. The staff must have slept...
