I had a wonderful stay at Silaa Cabanas. The family is taking very good care of you and I got a really early breakfast because my bus was going very early in the morning. The breakfast was freshly prepared and tasted delicious! The beach is in walking distance and there are many restaurants around. The bus station to Trincomalee is also reachable within a 10 minutes walk. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back again! Thanks for accommodating me!
We recently stayed three nights here & it was lovely. The owner was away & his father & the housekeeper looked after us so well. The cabanas are so nicely fitted out with everything you need. We had air conditioning & a lovely balcony to sit on. It is a very restful environment & walking distance to nearby cafes & restaurants. The housekeeper cooked us breakfast each morning, beautiful banana pancakes & fresh fruit, so delicious. We can highly recommend a stay at this lovely place.
Silaa cabanas is situated along the “hotel and hostel route” of Uppuveli. It is easily overlook as there is just a wooden sign. A massive tree gives shade to a small compound surrounded by small cabanas – on one side with fan, on the other and slightly bigger the ones with AC. There is a small restaurant where breakfast is served. There are dishes on the menu for lunch and dinner although I am not sure if those had to be ordered in advance. The cabanas are small and dark but cosy. There is a nice veranda-like place with comfy chairs to sit in the evenings. As we needed an additional bed for our children there was virtually no space left in the room to set your foot on – no problem as we were in only for meals and at night. The mattresses were a bit too soft, the linen a bit unpleasantly smelling but nothing really to complain about. Mosquito nets were there, old, with some holes but still acceptable. The room was clean. Bathroom was clean as well, the shower with an additional heater to provide hot water, equipment was working but very basic. We had a non-AC cabana and although two fans were working hard it was really hot during day time and in the evening. The nights were ok for sleeping with both fans. As the cabanas are built of wood in an individual style there are good chances for ants, bugs, spiders and other insects to come in but we had no unpleasant visitors. Breakfast was tasty and served in the garden under the big tree. We could use the kitchen in the evenings for preparing our own food which was very kind from the owner and made things easier for us and the small kids. Access to the beach is a five minutes walk and there is a very cool restaurant – Fernando´s – directly beachfront. There are a lot of restaurants and shops within walking distance, to Trincomallee it’s a 10 minutes Tuk-Tuk ride or slightly longer by bus. In summary, the place is nice, huts are still ok, staff is friendly and very very helpful and the location is very good. So don´t hesitate to stay there.…
There are about 10 cabanas facing a small garden. A quiet neighborhood with only a small access road. It's 5 minutes walk to the beach on side roads. The beach was not very nice (full of trash). The room was small but had a tiny desk on which I did some computer work. There are some shelves to keep stuff and clothes and two bedside tables. There is a mosquito net and it even has AC! There is also a small fridge and free WiFi. As small as the room is, it is perfectly equipped and we spent a good night's sleep in the comfortable big bed. The bathroom is also ok with hot showever. It was all clean. The dinner (a la carte) was very good and I loved the pancake I got for breakfast.
We loved staying and dining at Silaa Cabana! Not only are the cabanas absolutely great and furnished with love, also you'll find the best hosts there. It is just a few minutes from the beach, it's cosy to hang out there, and many bars/restaurants are close - Max is a fantastic chef, though so you don't have to go anywhere ;-) Thank you Silani, Neville & Max for having us!
I had a great time in this place. The people who take care of it are very friendly and make you feel like at home. Food is also great and the cabanas are spacious, clean and cute. Would like to come back.
Perfect for backpackers! Extremely friendly and helpful owner (knows english!). Cosy cabana 5min from beach. Delicious banana pancakes for breakfast! Warm stay but they tried to keep it cool. A bit noisy because of the many crows but ok! Highly recommand this place.
We loved everything about this beach huts. The location was perfect, less than 5min walk to the beach, peaceful and relaxing with a friendly atmosphere. Stephen made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to help us with everything we needed. He is a chilled out host and really looked after us, organising airport driver, cooking class, snorkel trips, laundry, tuk tuks and made sure we paid cheap prices. We would highly recommend staying there and we will definitely go back. Stephen's wife is also a beautiful singer and they plan to start some live music so would be a perfect place for musicians to stay.
Lovely place with a very friendly owner. Laid back, chilled place. There was misunderstanding in our booking where we expected a “family” room. Instead it was just a double room. The guy was quick to offer solutions such as adding an extra bed (not really enough space for that) or even put our child in a separate room (also not ideal). At end of the day, the fault was with Booking.com not with them. The beds were so wide we just slept in the same one! :-) I would stay here again.
My partner and I stayed in one of the silaa cabana “beach huts” during our stay. It was basic but charming and we always enjoyed returning after a long day at the nearby beautiful beach. The room had air con, a mosquito net, shelves for clothes / shoes. The bathroom had concrete walls and felt as if it was outdoors but was clean and comfortable. We had seats outside our cabin and a hammock and often sat outside to relax and enjoy our surroundings. Neville and his father were very friendly and accommodating and helped us with everything we needed. They even organised a family friend to drive us 6 hours to Arugam Bay (our next holiday destination) for less cost than a travel company that our UK friends recommended. Breakfast was lovely - pancakes and banana or traditional Sri Lankan. For us three nights was the perfect length of stay and it was one of the most special places we stayed at during our time in Sri Lanka. …
