Firstly if you are looking for luxury this isn't for you. That should be clear from the price. It is a bit basic but it is clean, comfortable, friendly and right on the beach. I thought it filled a very good niche market between budget accommodation and more up market places. My family really enjoyed it. The only draw back was lack food and drink but their is a very good restaurant virtually next door and a small shop which sells cold drinks just across the street. I would use it again.
6 of us stayed in the dutch beach beach cottage at the beginning of August. 1 friend who was coming straight from colombo and meeting us there (the other 5 travelling from arugam bay) was not treated with hospitality on arrival. The owner refused to accept that she was part of the booking we had made, until she was forced to log into facebook to show conversations had between us and her. While she waited for us to arrive the workers there made snidey comments such “5 of your friends coming yeah” while laughing at her. After being rude, another of the workers had the cheek to ask for a tip when we were leaving, despite being nothing but hostile while we were staying there - he couldnt even bring himself to hold the door open while we lugged our bags through. To top it all off, it is the cottages policy that once you have checked out - if you are to use any of the facilities after this time they charge you 150 rupees. This i could understand however the owner explicitly told us if any of us sat on any of the chairs or received messages on the wifi we would be charged. Ridiculous. The only kudos to this place is the location which is right on the beach. In addition, our AC broke on the first night and the owner took away a fee from our bill (when we asked.)…
Best wifi that we had in Sri Lanka. Very good coffee. We hired a motorbike through them. The bus station is 15min far and there are plenty of options to eat nearby. We had dinner every day in the hotel next to them (at the beach), but stay in Dutch Bay Cottage! (Better reviewed). We were almost alone at the beach during our stay. It has 4 rooms and options for families! There is a fridge in the room and also one outside that you can use at your convenience. No words to describe how helpful they are! Thanks a million!
We stayed at Dutch bay at the beginning of our tour of Sri Lanka. The accommodation is simplistic but we had all we needed. The rooms where nice and big. The location is perfect. No food at the accommodation but there are options closeby.
Firstly, I want to point out that we really really enjoyed our time at Dutch Bay Beach Cottages. The location is absolutely stunning being directly on the beach, and the terrace and sunbeds they have on the beach are really great. The rooms are adequate. The bed was comfy and we were able to watch the World Cup on the little TV. The air conditioning worked really well and was much needed. Agree with previous comments about the tiny blankets - we asked for an extra bed sheet and used that as a duvet. Only other thing to note, which didn't bother us so much, is that there are large grates connecting each bathroom which mean you can literally hear everything in the next room. Luckily it was empty for a considerable amount of the time we were there but something to consider in high season. Our brilliant time there was somewhat dampened at the end of our stay. On the morning of our check-out, the owner who we had seen every single day of our stay was not there. On reception was a man we hadn't met before. He had a piece of paper quoting our total room price that was owed. He had quoted us $30 more than what was on our confirmation email. We asked him to phone the owner to ask why, which he did but it was not cleared up. Everything was a bit lost in translation but they were adamant that we pay the $30 extra before we left. We had a flight to catch and ended up waiting almost an hour trying to come to an agreement. I showed the hotel copies of my booking and confirmation emails, however they still insisted we owed more. Eventually I told them we had to leave and that I would settle what we were quoted on our booking correspondence, and they could follow it up with the booking website should they wish to. I asked to pay on card so we would both have a record of the amount paid however they declined this method of payment. Since then I have spoken with the website (Agoda), who say they have not heard from the hotel and we do NOT owe any more than we were quoted and paid. The hotel, however, have emailed me multiple times asking for more money. It was a shame that we had this misunderstanding at the end as our stay was otherwise much enjoyed. …
The location of the cottage is great, right next to the beach with amazing sunrise views! The rooms are nice and spacious, AC works great and everything. The staff was helpful with anything that I needed at any time day or night. The only complaint I had was about the blankets provided. Firstly, when you walk into the room the blankets are not there on the bed, you have to ask for them. Secondly, the blankets are tiny, enough to cover a child fully. It was not enough to cover a large fully grown man such as myself. If they just provide proper blankets, the stay would be great for the price.
On arrival the owner/manager? was helpful if a little distant. We stayed 2 nights & didn’t see him after that, needless to say he left a note with the caretaker couple, who don’t know much English as to how much we owed on leaving. Room right on the beach, clean, A/C, tv with movie channel, self contained bathroom. No kitchen so no breakfast, lunch, dinner you need to source that yourself. Beach clean good for a swim & sit on lounges provided and watch the waves.
Very clean accommodation with 6 rooms no cottages, rooms are a good size, bathroom new and clean, beds comfortable and good linen. Small porch/veranda over looking beach, great sunrise. Fridge in hallway/office to keep a beer cold...beer store just around the corner. Being on the south side of the city it is very quiet and not so touristy. The down side of this is there wasn't a lot of choices for meals. Food is not served at this hotel, so there is really only one worth while restaurant 4 doors down.
This is our second visit to this place within an year. Nice Hotel With Awesome beachfront. Rooms are in good condition with good AC.Toilets Are not too clean. TV Chanel's are not clear always showing no signal. Internet is very slow and sometimes not working. No food available but very close by green park restaurant is available.Manager is a very nice person. Good place to stay in trinco
This is our most favourite place to stay in Trincomalee. When ever we visit Trincomalee, we will stay here only. We feel like it's our home. It's located in sea shore with private beach with all the best facilities like parking, AC, TV etc... We enjoyed the sun rises, cool breeze with surrounded by mountains.....
