We stayed one night at this hotel - really it would be called a 'guest house' in England. The floor coverings were unusual; cushioned vinyl on the staircases and rough coir-style matting in the bedroom that I could not bear to walk barefoot on. This is a simple hotel but has some great features. Firstly we could open our shutters in the morning and see the Cirque du Gavarnie, and the breakfast was really good with a wide range of options. Arriving at L'Astazou... has that feel of coming home... the hotel is basic but but everything you need.. This hotel has witnessed a thousand walkers and tourists unwind and recount the wonders of the Pyrenees... The breakfast is generous.. and better than any food we ate up the mountain... If you are heading of the day... this will keep you...

Having walked through the pyrenees for a week we were delighted to get to Gavarnie and even more delighted to find this hotel. There is some remark on trip advisor about the hotel owner being grumpy but nothing could be further from the truth. I think it is very tough to make a living from these small hotels but once...
