First time back since before the start of the pandemic. Visited couple times a year after the Inn was totally renovated because of the adjacent River Crab restaurant & shopping within driving distance to Hall Rd & loved watching the ships sail by. The pandemic has been tough on many businesses & so not surprised the Blue Water Inn has too. However, there is no excuse for lack of cleanliness & basic room supplies. We were given a room on the first floor overlooking the yet to be opened pool and got to overlook the noisy restaurant exhaust system. The 2nd day we got to watch the pool company open the pool. The place was not busy so not sure why we were given this room. Upon entering the room we were overcome by a very strong carpet deodorizer smell and had to leave the door wide open for about an hour to air the place out when it was 56 degrees outside and windy as the window was broken and could not be opened. There were only two pillows used to be four; the duvet did not have a watchable cover on it (yuck) and removed it and were left with only a sheet and thin blanket; the wallpaper had been removed from the bathroom walls and the glue left was painted over; the sink ran very slowly; there was no Kleenex in the box; the wicker basket that held the towels was filthy with dust and hair (another yuck); there was an iron but no ironing board (yes some people like to press their clothes & don’t just wear jeans & sweat pants). Our first night we ordered our favourite appetizers & entrees & got room service as the restaurant was closed due to a private wedding. The food arrived: one of the appetizers was missing and our hot meals were cold. On day two we got extra towels, Kleenex and asked for clean glasses which they said the restaurant staff would deliver but they never came. The evening office gentleman was very welcoming but the morning lady with the blonde hair was miserable. We assume the Inn no longer have their own housekeeping staff - IT SHOWS! The wifi worked on day 1 but nothing on day 2. The good things: the beds are still comfortable and there is that terrific view! For years we have raved about the accommodations and highly recommended it to family & friends but sadly not anymore.

We stayed at the Blue Water Inn to extend our visit after dinner at the outstanding River Crab restaurant which is attached. Our room was very nice, quite large and recently renovated. We especially appreciated the two easy chairs and the modern bathroom fixtures. All the room entrances are from the outside and there is plenty of space for two chairs and a table on the “balcony”. We especially enjoyed sitting there and watching the freighter traffic go up and down the Saint Clair River. (There are websites that track the river traffic so one can anticipate when ships will be passing by.). Our only complaint was an unreliable and inconsistent wi-if connection.

My hubby and I traveling during the time of Covid-19 and I will rate accordingly. Please note this hotel does not have an elevator. There are three floors and the steps are high and steep. The rooms are kitschy and retro. The rooms have been recently been remodeled. I noticed a musty smell as we entered. The room is large and well maintained. The rooms have a view of the St. Claire River; however, the windows are covered in a large thick curtain. Therefore; you either have them shut, missing the view or have them open and anyone walking by, can see you . I recommend room #301 as you are on the end and no one can walk by. You also have a set of chairs and table outside your window, if you want to sit outside. The seats are not comfortable and are arms length to the rooms next door front door. All in all, we were satisfied with the room, a little oddball but retro and fun. (The restaurant attached to the building is amazing and expensive. However, the food is fabulous and they have a great Happy Hour.)

I did not realize that you had to walk through everyone else's deck area to get to your room. It is a tight fit in some places and really inconvenient if anyone is sitting out on their deck. I assumed that there would be entrances on the other side of the building to get into your room, but no. The rooms on the main level, level 2, are the only ones that are accessible at all to anyone who isn't 20 years old and in great shape. If you are on the upper or lower level you have to drag your luggage up and down a flight of steps. I know I wouldn't be able to.
The pictures of the property on their website are deceiving. The deck areas look much larger and the views look unobstructed, and appear to overlook the restaurant deck. Nearly all of the rooms do not have a view like that. We were told that we had the room with the best view. Well, we were able to see up the river, but most of our view was of the roof of the restaurant and a/c system. We couldn't see the restaurant deck at all.
Several people walked down and stood in front of our room looking at the view, so your outdoor space was not private at all. I was also disappointed that there wasn't a dining size table on the patio so you could enjoy your meals outside without holding them in your lap.
They state the rooms were recently renovated, decor wasn't to my taste, but they forgot to take care of the little details, like painting the trim and doors which were all scratched. The lighting in the room was very dim. With all the lights on there still wasn't enough light to read. The TV remote was difficult to operate. The mattress was extremely hard and the pillows extremely soft. It was the most uncomfortable bed we had on our 2 week road trip.
The bathroom and kitchenette had adequate counter space, but they had trays sitting on both with towels, coffee cups, etc. You had to sit the trays on the floor to have room for any of your stuff, which a counter should be for. Overall, just too cluttered. The bathroom sink was extremely slow to drain so we had to turn off the water and wait for it to drain to keep it from overflowing. Very oddly, when I opened the soap, which was in a paper box, it was wet. So, I don't know if it had been used before, but it was off-putting and didn't seem sanitary. I don't understand how it was wet but the box was dry.
Ice was in the office, so they would only let you have a little bucket. Fortunately, there is a liquor store across the street where you can get bags of ice. I wish we had known that before we spent a long time driving around Port Huron to find beer.
The office didn't open until 8 AM, so you won't be able to get any ice or supplies in the morning if you need to leave early.

We stayed 4 nights while visiting friends in the area. We wanted a location on the water and appreciated the quiet community. We travel a fair amount with experience selecting hotels. The rating was a 4 on this site and we would not agree. The decor was a 70s look as the hotel needs updating. There was a strong smell to the room that seemed to be from old carpet, likely humid, but we needed to open the door/windows to let the fresh air in. Sink had cracking on it and overall room was musty and semi clean. Bedding and towels seemed fresh and clean. Our friends left trash/towels for replacement and they were never replaced or removed. Front desk folks were friendly at evening shift & aloof during the day when asked for towels, coffee. Other patrons were loud (older golfers) a few doors down leaving beer cans & snack trash laying outside their room. On a positive note, location was nice, viewing of river and ships fantastic, and the restaurant on site was very good quality. This place has a lot of potential.

I was terribly disappointed in my accommodations and I have to say I'm not someone looking for perfection or think I'm special and need to be pampered but I was really looking forward to my stay in what I thought was going to be the fabulous Blue Water Inn while my condo was being redone. A nice clean room would be all I need. I live on the river with a great view so it wasn't so much the view and the freighters for me (although I never get tired of it) but just looking forward to a relaxing week. It just looks to me like there's no real cleaning or maintenance being done. I know hotels are struggling and they were closed for a couple months but to me, this has nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with no one's keeping an eye on things. When I reported that my shower wasn't draining and I was showering in water up past my ankles it only got fixed when I saw the plumber in the parking lot myself and asked him if he was there to fix my shower. He said no, it wasn't on his list. And I can't help it - I just want to paint that dark brown wall white or light blue to put some light in the room and add some white sheers between the dark oppressive drapes so you can get some light in there. On the upside, my room was nice and quiet, everybody's friendly, the view is great and the restaurant is absolutely FABULOUS!! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!

Returned recently for our annual reunion with friends here. We have been staying at Blue Water Inn for several years and do recommend it. Clean and comfortable. I really rate it 4 stars+. Try to get a room on second level (same as office). Staff is friendly and helpful, continental breakfast is adequate, rates reasonable (especially if Landry member) and convenience of River Crab Restaurant is a plus! (delicious food) River views are good. Rooms seem to be in process of remodeling. Ours had been painted so it was brighter. We have no complaints about this hotel. However, if they remodel bathrooms, more hooks or towel racks would be helpful. Only bathroom hook was at top of door... made for a giant maybe?

At first glance, the room seemed clean. There were fresh towels and the beds were made with fresh linens. Unfortunately, they are in the process of remodeling and many things were not in order. The room was dusty. The tub hadn't been cleaned. The refrigerator had items left from the last guest.
However, the staff was friendly and quick to correct things. By summer 2023, I hope things are improved.

We stayed at the Blue Water Inn because we wanted to visit the east side shore of Michigan. The River Crab was our main reason for staying in St. Clair and we really enjoyed the restaurant. But the hotel was the worst! The wifi was non-existent, except for basic email. The door was difficult to open and the paint, woodwork was chipping and broken here and there. The Keurig coffee maker didn't work. Huge disappointment so we will never stay there again.

Nice view, friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable beds.
The room was disappointing. The bathtub didn't drain when showering, the exhaust fan and air conditioning filter were dirty and full of lint. There were stains on the shower curtain and a light out over the bathroom sink. The microwave in the lobby needed cleaning.
Housekeeping needs a boost!

I'd recommend a nice pair of slacks, nice golf shirt/sweater and nice shoes. They will let you in with jeans but they won't suit the atmosphere very well.
