The property has no pretensions about it. Within a couple of blocks of everything in downtown area. Suspect that some of the colorful locals who congregate each night near the office are long term residents, but they are quiet by 10PM. Room was dark and seemed empty although everything expected was present. Pillows were soft but matress frame was hard and mattress offered very little support. Reasonable price when booked online weeks in advance.
I gave it 3 stars strictly for the price. But the bed caused me to have the worst nights sleep. Very firm/hard mattress. Very dated and dark room. Toilet leans to the back. Good things. The heater worked, plenty of towels, clean, large TV, hot water, quiet, had security cameras.
Older hotel, on quieter end of Portage Ave. Priced high ($157) due to Labor Day weekend, and Auroral Borealis was to be visible. Checked in to 2nd floor room with 2 beds that appeared to be clean, with some renovations. Free WiFi wasn’t working. My sister screamed when she witnessed a rat running from under my bed to the heat/ac vent on the wall. Advised the staff, who could not reaccommodate us due to the entire town being sold out. They asked how big it was!! They offered to set traps, obviously not acceptable, asking if we thought they should treat all the rooms. Seriously? We asked for our money back, considering we wouldn’t be staying. Since we bought online, we were told no refunds. Eventually we were offered 50% of our money. Still not happy, as we spent the night in our car. No reason to recommend this place to anyone!…
From call to reserve the room to checkout, the owners and staff were friendly and helpful, made us feel welcome. It seems to be a little older place, but the room was clean and everything worked fine. We had a quiet, good night’s rest in a comfortable bed with nice pillows.
I waited until literally the last minute to find a room in town, so I was really glad the owner let me check in at the same price as regular bookings, which is of course very affordable compared to other options in town. The room itself was clean and the air conditioning worked fine. It's easy to see that the owner puts effort into making the motel a great place to stay despite it being an older building. For improvements, I would suggest doing some renovations to seal up some spots in the bathroom (e.g. the soap holder on the wall above the bathtub, some floor tiles in the corners). I found the Wi-Fi signal inside my room to be somewhat weak (the signal outside was much stronger), but once connected the speed was good. The front desk is open until around 11 PM, though I think the owner lives in the building as well. Free pastries for breakfast too.…
