While it’s an old hotel and duly noted reviews did not mention that this hotel feels worn and needs updating. For the price this hotel is simply not worth it. I would have paid more if they kept it up to date. From the dirty stair runner up to the 2nd floor this hotel needs a make over. Keep it charm but update it-

Loved the Nichols...For the people that love cookie cutter hotels like the Hyatt, this is not the place for you. The service was excellent. The young women that worked there DID EVERYTHING, checked you in, served your breakfast, did housekeeping, solved problems, help you park your bike, etc etc etc. There were always busy but never seemed hurried or rushed. The location is perfect you can walk every where. The rooms are not big but who cares what are you doing in your room on vacation?? The breakfast that is included in your stay was great. I suggest the breakfast burrito You can eat inside or out by the street or nice courtyard on the side of hotel......It was the first time we took our dog on vacation. Very convenient first floor rooms for guests with pets..They dont hammer you for a pet charge . Great hotel will definitely come back!!

I was so pleasantly surprised by my stay. My husband and I were on the fence where to stay because we hadn't been to the area in over 10 years. So after hours of searching the web and reading all the reviews and with a grain of Salt decided on the Nichols. Well we are the winner winner chicken dinner. We arrived at our hotel and were promptly checked in and the young lady couldn't have been more pleasant. Our room was very clean and tastefully decorated without compromise to the Historic Setting. The hotel was quiet and the beds super comfy. We were served breakfast ( we stayed two) daily. We sat outside in the beautiful harbor area and after choosing from 6 fresh cooked choices, we enjoyed hot coffee before being served hot and tasty breakfast. We both chose the Brioche French toast and bacon w fresh fruit day 1, and Breakfast Burrito, bacon and Fruit day 2. The food was great and served fast. We also heard that in the evening they have hot appetizers and beer and wine but we never missed a sunset so we didn't enjoy that. We also had bikes with us and instead of having to lock them back on the truck daily they kindly offered to have us leave them in there locked garage. The hotel is in walking distance to literally everything. Beach, lighthouse, many restaurant and tons of shopping. We could sit out on the patio nightly and enjoy every minute of our vacation. We will definitely be Back. GREAT SERVICE HOTEL NICHOLS. THANK YOU

Booked the apartment without any pictures or reviews as it was the only option that was available for the days we wanted. The apartment is beautiful, three bedrooms, one spacious bathroom, and a a large open kitchen/dining/living area. Nice breakfast, including cereal for our teenage boys that slept past the hot breakfast times. Close walk to the downtown restaurants/shops and 15 minute walk to North Beach. They recently switched to Apple TV so we were not able to get it to work, however we had our laptop with us and just used that with the HDMI cable to stream a movie at night (Victoria quickly came to see if she could get Apple TV working and installed a Roku as an alternative). Great stay, will definitely return!

Just left after our one night stay and we don’t have many great things to say about this place... while the location is perfect and the rooms are fine for just a quick trip the experience was not pleasant. For a time such as the one we are in with the virus going on you’d think sanitation would be the number one concern for a business such as a hotel. Our bed had a bunch of male and female hairs on the sheets, there was popcorn crumbs from who knows how long ago on the side tables, a pair of shoes which did not belong to us were on the floor and the toilet paper roll was almost out sitting on the window seal. The bed was not comfortable and the tub was grimy looking. This morning when we went for breakfast the guy seemed clueless as to what was on the menu. We ordered two breakfast burritos and it took over 30 minutes - we had to leave before the food arrived to the table. For the amount of money you spend to stay a night here you’d think everything would be top notch. Not a fan and would not stay here again.
