I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times when I had business the following day in Detroit. The rooms are always clean and well appointed and although the hotel is not new the rooms don’t look worn. Very good breakfast with the make your own waffles. Nothing fabulous but definitely a good location and price for business.
Very modern hotel with suites only. Our particular suite had a jacuzzi. Spacious room with king size bed, couch and desk. Roye at front and Janice at the breakfast venue were very accommodating and pleasant. Reasonably priced
With regard to staff: you will not find a more accommodating group of people. In particular, Roye Frame the front desk manager is lovely. Have stayed at this location for many years to be close to family when in town. After they had passed away, it had been a couple of years since she had seen us. Had difficulty trying to book a last minute stay on the fly because the Choice Hotels website is flat-out terrible. But when I walked in to try to book face-to-face, she recognized my face and last name and was happy to help get me set up with a good rate for the night after some small friendly banter. With regard to the hotel itself: just manage your expectations, honestly. It's easy access for weary travelers off the freeway, so it sees a lot of foot traffic. Plus, you're in Southgate, MI, not Capital Hill, DC. They have recently updated the furniture, have previously updated the vanity a few years back (saw someone complain about being able to see the plumbing... wow! that's a bit dramatic). But anytime I've had an issue, they've offered to rectify however possible. If I need to switch rooms, they do so if available. If something's broken, they try to get me a replacement. Will always recommend strictly because the personnel are just out there trying to do their best. Don't walk in thinking you'll observe something similar to a $400 per night downtown NYC hotel. Perfect if you're just looking to eat your meal in peace, take a shower, and get some sleep, like most of us travelers. I'm just glad I'm giving my business to people that are working hard for it. They deserve it.…
We generally like to stay at Comfort Suites because they're comfortable yet economical. This one was no different. It has seen a lot of guests and it shows. That is not to say that it is run down, it isn't. You can just see it's a bit worn.
Good: We were happy to find a hotel room in the low price range we were looking for where accommodates family of 5 - 2 queen size beds and a pull out couch. Pictures of Detroit was a nice touch. Breakfast was okay. Kids enjoyed the mini-waffles maker that makes 4 little waffles instead of regular size. Disappointed: There was no blanket or sheets for the pull out couch. We had to ask for them, as well as an extra set of towels for the 5th person. There was only one towel hook (2 prongs) on the bathroom door! You can see the ugly drain pipe under the sink, and the faucet was wiggly. And when we went to pool in the morning, the maintenance guy just put some chemicals and we couldn't get in. Kids were very disappointed. We like Choice group and have had good experiences, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend to friends or come back again.…
