I've been staying annually at this hotel for at least 12 years and was stunned this year by my recent stay (mid-April 2021). The toilet stopped working and they had nobody available for repair, the rooms had not been cleaned in a LONG time, and there were 11 full-size cigarette burns in the carpet. There were no towels, no toilet paper. When I spoke to the front desk they refused to clean the room as they only do that in between guests (obviously NOT this time), and gave me a roll of toilet paper and a towel. I decided to make do with the toilet for two nights by refilling the toilet using the ice bucket. That night the TV stopped working. While I was going to the front desk to complain a lady told me NONE of the TVs in the hotel worked right. Others in our group of rooms reported similar horrible conditions.…
Looking for an authentic experience of a dilapidated crack-house with all the comforts of a college dorm? Then look no further than the Southgate La Quinta. Please understand that this is NOT representative of the La Quinta brand and is truly an outlier. As a loyal brand customer for over 27 years, and having stayed at La- Quinta's around the US, multiple times annually both in NY and MI, I can assure you that this property's "charm" and condition are unique to the chain. If you long for the days when you could flop - carefree- onto a mung and grody mattress better suited to rowing than sleeping, then this is your lucky day! You are guaranteed a back-breaking experience and little sleep while your A/C or heat spews mold-laden, recycled air through its whistling and clanking innards IF it happens to be working. You'll have to settle for the temperature du jour however as most thermostats don't work properly. You'll be able to throw your clothes around just like in your teens but woe unto you if you have the need for more than 2 hangars since that's what is provided. Most shelves and drawers, if extent, are broken so it will be whoever calls "dibs" on the working few remaining. The rest will have to settle for ledges, door backs, or heaven forbid- the floor! "Carpets" are truly modern wonders of science for the new life forms being spawned there. Tyvek booties strongly advised. If you are as lucky as I was on our last visit- 12/24/20-12/26/20, your room will appear sans toilet paper, towels, tissues or cups for the coffee maker. In lieu of an on-site gym, you can go up and down the stairs repeatedly to bother the kindly front desk person over and over again. If there is one redeeming quality to the joint beyond "a place to sleep", it is the long suffering front desk personnel who have to face the wrath of customers who appear daily expecting a decent place to lay their heads. Heaven forbid if their frame of reference is other La Quinta's! I must stress that this one is an outlier. Don't be turned off of the chain. Just chose a different place to lay your bones when visiting this area.…
Staff was very friendly, I received the room I requested that has a ceiling fan. Very quiet and the room was clean. Was called in time before we left to go back home, my husband had left his clothes behind the door, very thankful for the call!
Stayed 3 nights at the La Quinta Southgate. This property followed COVID restrictions, with no maid service during stay, which was fine w/us. Facility decided to not offer breakfast. There are restaurants in the area. Room was clean on arrival and everything was fine. This location is convenient and would probably stay here again if in the area.
I have stayed at this property several times in the past. Over time it continued to get worse. There was no room service, no breakfast, and the carpet in our room was old and filthy! I watched a homeless man eating out of the hotel dumpster and I went and gave him money. During a previous stay we watched prostitutes come in for a free breakfast. The parking lot is in terrible shape. I will not return.
