Nice hotel. Room was decent...but there were a few very annoying problems. Carpet on one side of the bed was soaked our entire stay . Covered it with a towel but it soaked through that too. Lamp and electric sockets on the right side of bed did not work. Jacuzzi tub didn’t work. Thermostat didn’t work...room was hot even though we put it on cool. Maintenance said due to the side of the building we were on, if we wanted to be cool we had to turn off the heat completely and he could bring us a fan. Also, TV was super dim and hard to watch...no options on remote to fix. Told staff about our issues and they only offered us reward points for our next stay. Definitely won’t be coming back.
The upside is very comfortable beds and very friendly staff. The bumps - the bathtub had hair and soap scum in it, some pretzel pieces under the bed, and the bathroom counter was grungy. So house keeping not up to snuff. Issues with air conditioning - not working, was fixed quite quickly. That being said, it sounds like a jet engine when it kicks on. Had breakfast in the dining room, great service, food just so so.
Rate and distance to Comerica was decent - which is why we stayed. The hotel is dirty, the staff LIED to us about a room, accused us of being wrong on a rate (we had documented proof) and we watched security escort the same homeless women out 3 times in one night. GROSS all the way around!
So as a frequent flyer of the Express locations I knew upon pulling into the parking lot here that it was an older hotel and immediately drew conclusions. Happily my conclusions were disproven. It still has an old feel to it but it has been refurbished quite extensively. My room has the modern conveniences I expected, flat screen, clean, no wall paper, decent flooring. Didn’t smell funny. There were a few things that give away the old-ness but they were far and few between. This hotel has an impressive pool facility and a bar and restaurant on site, food was actually pretty good and not expensive. I think the best part was the collection of artwork. Authentic or not the collection is impressive and was refreshing to take in. There were a few works in the lighthouse gallery that are certainly valuable and I hope they don’t go missing. So all in all it was a pleasant stay. Convenient and easy access to I-75. For a refurbed older hotel, they’ve done a good job. BTW this is a conference center so that may be the reason for the substantial upgrades. Well Done Holiday Inn. I’ll come back.…
