Thinking there would be loads of accommodation options in Curio Bay I stupidly didn't book ahead. Despite having left for the day the manager was able to sort me out a room for the night to save me having to drive to invacargil. The hostel is nice, right on the beach with amazing views of the bay, the room was...

This is a very clean, pleasant & basic two storey house with bedrooms, shared bathrooms, & large kitchen/living room with fantastic views over the huge bay. We had a double room which was very clean & cosy. The manager let us check in early & we could come & go through the day depending on the changeable weather. It's a...

An excellent, cosy place to stay. The kitchen/lounge area has views across the beach, if they're about you can actually see the dolphins jumping around as you have breakfast. The cooking facilities are second to none, there's even herbs growing in little pots. The rooms are small but warm and comfortable. Overall a great stay and one of our favourites...

This place is faultless. My favorite backpacker accommodation in the world, and I've stayed at hundreds. Clean, beautiful views and the manager Diane will make you feel at home. Can't wait to come back again. This place is a nature lovers paradise

We stayed for two nights to see the Hoiho - lovely clean accommodation with a very well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The owner doesn't live on the premises so you may need to let yourself in which was a bit confusing to start off with but she answered the phone promptly if you have any issues. Make sure to...

Ended up staying here after re-arranging plans as there was no accommodation available in Dunedin. We were delighted with our discovery. The Lazy Dolphin is quite low key and functional, but well-equipped. Our room (downstairs) was clean and spacious. Excellent value. Ideal situation right by the ocean - beautiful views and walking distance to rare yellow eyed penguins.

Loved our stay at the Lazy Dolphin. Perfect for our party of six children and 3 adults. The Catlins is an amazing place to explore - but it was also hard to daily leave our home away from home. The rooms were lovely with comfortable beds and plenty of linen. The children have voted our 5 days with you as...

This place is just perfect. It was recommended by a workmate and what an awesome choice it was!! The location is quiet and peaceful but walkable to see the penguins and different wildlife spots. Although we didn't have too much contact with the host/owner, she seemed delightful when we met her and was full of information. The place was spotless...

My husband and I stayed for one night while driving through the Caitlins. Having no fixed itinerary, we only booked via email in the morning. Very quick response, asked us for our arrival time and offered to turn on the heater beforehand, and also reminded us to bring our own food. At that point of our trip, we had a...

I booked this place because tripadvisor was so favourable of it and decided to have a break in our trip through The Catlins. We arrived around 5 after watching a penguin make its way ashore on the beach. The place was in darkness, but we let ourselves in and found a note from the owner. All very helpful until we...
