A great resort. Spent a week with my son and family in late June. Lise and Andrew the owners are wonderful hosts. Cabins are clean and well equipped. They are slowly renovating the cabins and the ones that have been completed are superb! Fishing was great - no trophies but lots of pike, bass, perch, and walleye - great for the kids. Can’t wait to get back next year. Highly recommend

Been coming up Nipissing area for over 20 years and this past June was our first with Lise and Andrew.
10 of us had a great time!!! Accommodations & fishing were great.
Lise & Andrew are so welcoming. I could go on & on but the best recommendation I could give is that we have booked for 2025!!!

My first experience on the west arm was not disappointing.
When we arrived the last week of Aug the sky's were blue and wow the fishing is superb.my thumbs were sore from taking the hooks out of 40-50 bass catch days, 2-4 pound range.
Regan and Goldie are great host very knowledgeable and make you feel at home. Advise from Regan looking over the lake maps when I arrived made the fish catches easy. I'm a bass guy, but next stay there will be musky.
Cottages and grounds are very clean and well kept.
Can't say enough about Mashkinonje. I will be informing my fishing buddies about staying here.

Will not find a better Lodge in Canada ! The owners are fantastic! They take care of you like you are Family! Great fishing! The cabins are absolutely beautiful, all redone with pine floors, ceilings, they are what a cabin should look like! They are right on the water with stunning views!
The boat docks are all redone and look amazing, with large deck sections with chairs and umbrellas to look at the beautiful Lake! The cabins are nicely furnished with everything you need for cooking with nice grills outside to also cook on.If you want a quiet, relaxing, forget about work vacation, with owners who treat you like family! then Mashkinonje Lodge is the place for you!!

Mashkinonje Lodge is an amazing place in a perfect location with great hosts - Goldie and Regan

We arrived with a large group of 30 men for our yearly early season fishing & relaxing outing. Every person in the group commented in positive manner on accommodations and the location. Being the organiser of this year's trip I was glad to have come across this gem. We will definitely be back. Goldie and Regan are putting their hearts into this place and it really shows.

Accommodations:
- very clean cottages
- good beds with new mattresses (all linens and coverings included)
- kitchen is fully stocked with pots, utensils, fridge/stove, cleaning supplies etc
- docks are large and new with electrical hookup for charging
- good rental boats
- we occupied 6 cottages including the Main Lodge and Chalet. All cottages are in great shape. Main Lodge is very large with pool table and darts board for play time at night or when its raining (perfect hangout place)

Thank You Goldie and Regan,
Arek

Thanks for the review. A good point was made here which is to call in advance for your prefered cottages. Although all of our cottages are nice some are nicer than others. We have an array of cottages for needs and budget, but the nicest and newly renovated cottages tend to book up first and fast. Best!

Even a terribly picky customer wouldn't find a way to complain about Mashkinonje Lodge. Our family and friends stayed there twice in 2014 and can't wait to get back. You recieve a full blown vacation package, comprised of a great rennovated cottage for a decent price; oustanding quite nature & lake views; small cozy beach for your kids; challenging but most importantly worth it effective fishing; and on top of all that - a unique hospitality of Regan and Goldie, the hosts, who absolutely care about the place and guests. We came over just to try our luck and now have great friends and guaranteed place to come back for more recreation and fun. See you all there!!!

True honest review! We have been visiting this lodge for many years now and if you look at the reviews below you will notice that yes they have 5 stars BUT, there are only 2 recent reviews since the current owners took over. It USED to be 5 stars, not anymore! Unfortunately this place has gone downhill and the new owners lack professionalism, customer service and knowledge of how to run a lodge. They also lack the handyman skills required for everyday upkeep.

Pros: all cottages are equipped with pretty much everything you need in the kitchen, I suggest bringing your own can opener as theirs do not work, also bring your own spatula to make eggs as theirs are in rough shape.

They have installed new shower heads that provide better water pressure to wash your hair.

The tiny sandy beach area is nice for young kids, but beware if your child digs in the sand as there is dog feces from the owners dog that never gets cleaned up.

They do provide paper towels and toilet paper, but nobody ever checks if you need more of anything. If you need more toilet paper you need to either text them, which never seems to work, or try to find them wandering about and ask for more.

Fishing is good if that’s your thing, worms are $5 a dozen.

That about sums up that section…. 🤔

Cons: the toilets in most of the cottages need to be replaced. They are unstable and some are leaking around the base, they also need to be plunged often as they clog easily.

The owners have a dog that roams aimlessly, yes it is friendly, but nobody picks up after it so you must be careful to not step in land mines everywhere.

The owners allow dogs to be off leash on their property and this year one of the other cottages dog attacked two people in our group and came at my dog who was on a leash with me.

There are mice in some of the cottages. ( which I understand can happen) but when our group asked for mouse traps, the response was a huff and sigh and they were told that the reason there is a mouse problem in that specific cottage is because they have a dog with them. 🤨 yet they are a pet friendly lodge and they themselves have a dog. See picture attached of one that drowned in the kitchen sink.

The beds are not comfy, they do have a mattress protector on them but they do smell musty.

Some of the docks are falling apart and need some serious repair as there are floating pieces in the water that are still attached.

The cottages all have a very strong sewage smell in them the past couple of years now and when we asked the owner she said nobody else has ever complained about it. 🤢

The tables and chairs on each deck are badly falling apart and have missing pieces that you could easily hurt yourself on
The renovations that they have completed, look good from a distance until you realize that everything is uneven and most windows do not close, along with doors do not shut tight , which to some may not matter but it’s nice to have a bathroom door close properly for some privacy.

Upon checkout, as you are packing your vehicle and cleaning the cottage to leave, the young adults on their cleaning crew stand and stare at you and you can hear them chatter about wishing people would hurry up so they can finish early today.

A few years ago some members in our group were a bit noisy after 11 pm in one of the common areas and the owner came out and was angry with them and told them to shut it down. They did, but the next day the owner approached another member of our group on the lawn and proceeded to get into a very heated yelling match about the noise from the night before. The yelling caught many people’s attention, it was very unprofessional not to mention made people very uneasy how angry the owner was and how he dealt with that situation.

One of the members in our group that only came once to the lodge a couple years ago, didn’t enjoy her stay and gave a negative review of her experience, she hasn’t been back since. This year when the first car of our group arrived, they were told “ she better not be here as she is banned!” Meanwhile this person isn’t even involved or related to the girl who gave the negative review. Not a nice way to greet your arriving guests with an angry demeanour.

The owners have started doing a pizza night on the deck which you have to bring your own dough and toppings but they will cook it in their pizza oven. They pick and choose which cottagers they invite to this, it’s not a welcome all type of gathering, which again is poor customer service.

Upon check out this year, the owner was so rude to us all at the time of paying our bills. No customer service skills whatsoever. I tried to make small talk to be civil with her, she just stared at her computer with a scowl. When I asked to please pencil me in the same cottage for next year she hesitated and then said yes I will. That was on the Friday before checkout Saturday morning. Monday morning I received an email informing us that our group does not fit their company vision and we are not welcome back. This is fine as we already decided to look elsewhere before we checked out this year but I feel the professional thing to do would have been to discuss that at the time of check out instead of hiding behind an email.

In that email the owner said they had noise complaints again this year about our group. Nobody approached us about noise this year, or last year at all.

They also said some of the other guests felt we took over the common areas. We have a very large group that when we gather for example on the main dock, we occupy most of the chairs supplied and we also bring some of our own chairs as well. They need to supply more chairs to accommodate the amount of people that are visiting their lodge. We actually chatted with a lot of the other guests, as we do every year. We shared the beach area as well with some of them while the children all played together in the water. I have attached a picture of our group on the main dock as an example of how we kept the area clear for other guests to walk by safely or to join us.

All in all, our group has had many good times at this lodge over the years but it’s unfortunate the new owners have ruined the reputation of this place, and their so called renovations are that compared to lipstick on a pig.
You will not be greeted when you pull in with a wave and a smile like the previous owners, instead it’s a scowl if they even look up at you. You definitely don’t get a thank you for your business or a “have a safe drive home” when you leave either.

Thanks for reading and I hope my review helps! From one experienced traveller to the next!

My third trip to the Mashkinonje Lodge, first two with group of fishing buddies, this time with family. Our stay our wonderful, Goldie and Regan as always very accommodating and run the place with passion which shows everywhere.
We stayed in main lodge, which has everything you need and is very clean. Kids had a great time, fishing, boating, tubing etc.
No wonder this place is booked far in advance (already booked next year). This is a great place to fish or relax. Mid week fish fry provided by the hosts was a blast.
If You're deciding if this is a place for You, don't hesitate You will Love It.
Goldie & Regan - Thank You

We had an amazing time at Mashkinonje Lodge.
First time ice fishing with buddies and we are hooked ;)
The lodge was great and everything was prepared for us upon arrival.
We've been here before in the summer so we knew the place but in winter this area turns into a winter wonderland...with ice thickness 3ft+ and if you're not careful walking around you will find yourself in waist-high snow - did that too...
What an amazing trip, so good in fact we already booked for next year.
Great things must be repeated...Thanks Regan & Goldie for a memorable trip.
See You soon ;)
