We stayed in a guest room for one night before our tour of Gwaii Hanaas and we wished it was longer! The room had super comfortable beds, basic but exactly-what-we-needed kitchen supplies and was really clean and quiet. Highly recommend. We’ll be back!

Jags Beanstalk in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, offers way more than excellent coffee, delicious meals and clean, comfortable accommodation. It is a cozy hub for travellers and locals alike to share their adventures and knowledge of this uniquely unforgetable Canadian gem on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Jags Beanstalk was our comfy home base both before and after eight unforgettable days and nights aboard the MV Atlas, of Atlas Ocean Tours, which took us from Queen Charlotte city to the far south of Gwaii Hanaas and back again, with many adventures in between! The warm and welcoming hospitity of our hosts Sue, Jags, Khataya and their excellent staff, plus delicious, healthy meals (and fabulous fresh baking), set the tone for our travels in Haida Gwaii as did Jags' own uncanny ability to draw us and others into his enchanting web of personal histories and stunning photography. These he shared enthisiastically with patrons as they enjoying stunning views of Skidegate Inlet and the infamous Hecate Straight. Our stay at Jags' helped to personalize our experience of the natural wonders and history of Haida Gwaii.

An incredible café and guesthouse! I stayed at Jags for over 2 weeks due to work and during that time I tried many items on the menu, all of the food was excellent and the coffee was the best I have had in a long time. The rooms were modern, comfortable, and had a small kitchenette that was great for cooking little things or making coffee. It is located in a great location, close to the ferry terminal and town. I would highly recommend Jags Beanstalk either for food/coffee or to stay in the guest rooms - both are delightful!

Nice clean basic rooms with comfortable beds and a mini fridge. Very convenient location near ferry. The bistro is heavenly - great coffee, baking, etc. Great breakfast and lunch. We stayed in the new rooms behind the bistro. I would highly recommend this as a base for visiting all the sights on Graham Island.

We stayed 3 lovely nights at Jags. Our room was modern, comfortable and clean. The coffee shop for breakfast and lunch was awesome -- great coffee and selection of baked good and breakfast items. Be aware that dinner options in the area can be challenging. The few restaurants that were open often had extremely long wait times and online listings can be frustratingly outdated. Our room had a fridge, microwave and some dishes and cutlery which helped out on the night we literally could not find anywhere to eat and ended up at the local Co-op for supplies. A kettle is provided in the room and there is a coffee machine but they no longer supply the pods. We loved our room but the coffee shop was definitely the highlight of staying at Jags.

Stayed at Jag’s over the Canada Day long weekend. While the room was clean, location was scenic, finding food turned out to be an issue. I wish I was better prepared, but there isn’t much information on Haida Gwaii in general and the restaurants don’t necessarily have accurate open/close times online so it was hard to know. I arrived on Friday, July 1 at 5pm via airport shuttle and didn’t have my own car. Found out the coffee shop on property was closed, nearest restaurant was 1.5 hr walk and no one delivers. Difficult to get a taxi, I managed to call the shuttle driver back and she drove me to Daajing Giids for food. The coffee shop was closed all weekend as well, so again, no food or coffee in this area on Saturday. I asked if they could provide me with a cup of coffee at 6am (I had a tour pickup at 6:15am), but they said it was too early, which was understandable I guess. On Sunday morning I asked for a cup of coffee at 10am and was told the coffee machine was already shut down for the day and I could walk 15-min to the grocery store to get coffee - I did but the grocery store had no cups to even sell the coffee, so that was a waste of time. There was no kettle in the room either. I checked out at 12pm that day and went to another lodging and was finally able to get lunch there. I did go back to Jag’s coffee shop another day when I had a car and the egg bagel was delicious. However, the beans/rice with eggs were cold and tasted like they were heated up from frozen. My experience with this place was hit and miss, hence the 3-stars. The owner was very friendly otherwise, I just didn’t find them to be accommodating to the food/coffee situation.

A great place for breakfast I had a latte and Strawberry Rhubarb scone it was fresh and delicious. I’m coming back in a couple of weeks and I will be staying there. The service was great and the staff was friendly. I highly recommend Jags the best coffee around. Also the prices are reasonable.

Stayed at Jag's for three nights after a sailing trip on the Passing Cloud with Outer Shores. Enjoyed our stay. Rooms were modern, clean, new and well equipped. Had a room on the lower level and could definitely hear the people above early in the morning. Unlike indicated on the above description it should be noted that the Bistro is only open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 2:00 and that there are more than 4 guest rooms probably 12. Would definitely return.

Rooms are clean and modern. I was having some trouble with my WIFI connection, and staff went out of their way to find me the connection to the coffee shop below. You don't get that extra effort from many places so it was much appreciated. I've done my last two stays in Haida Gwaii here and I highly recommend. You'll have the best breakfast and coffee available in the area at the coffee shop. If you walk across the street you're right at the beach with a bench and lovely views.

I stayed for 10 days and couldn't have asked for a better place. Well located if you have a car. Very clean, modern room with comfortable bed, kitchenette and laundry nearby. Nice outdoor areas, including beach across the road. Good coffee and breakfast. I would have liked some lunch items, but appreciate they're very busy with what they're doing already.
